The Bills' Nate Clements is now the top cornerback on the market, but the Jets aren't expected to pursue him. The Jets will almost certainly pay QB Chad Pennington his $2 million roster bonus, which is due on March 2. -- Newark Star Ledger kind hoping that they would make a run @ him.....even though he's gonna command big bucks....i have a feeling washington is gonna be he's next home. Or maybe its just a smokescreen.....who knows really....Sorry if it was posted before.... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/scorecard/02/21/truth.rumors.nfl/1.html
The days of Bradway and Herm are over, the reporters have about as much of a clue as we do at this point on who the Jets are targeting. I think he will be out of our price range but I'm sure we are considering him based on need alone. By the way, why do you think he is going to end up in Washington? AFAIK, they are one of two teams that are already over the salary cap. I don't think they will be able to afford him...
I thought washington because a few coaches from buffalo are on the redskins staff....and they are known to open their wallet....if they wanted him i'm sure synder will find away....LOL
I have a hunch we are going to draft a CB, I just don't see them throwing money at clements (I would though >_>)
I dont think we will. If we had to spend money on a big market CB it was Samuel. Since he is off the market, im pretty sure FO will probably draft a CB rather than spend on an overpriced, over-rated FA CBs.
I think we definatly gotta give Tangini defference to choose how much Clements is worth. If they say hes not gonna be worth it, considering hes going to be asking top dollar, then we gotta let him pass and move on. Although, i did wanna see us pick him up for the right price, that way we are available to take a DE in the draft.
Clements is the only upper tier guy available besides Dre' Bly through trade. He'll get every dollar he commands.
For the past couple of years that seems to be the standard for the top free agents.....Damn is right!!
I don't know about the amount, but there was a quote where he said he wanted to be the highest paid CB in the league.
the Pats franchising asante samuel increased his value big time considering he's the only big time CB available.
If the Jets seriously decide not to go after Nate Clements then the possibility of our 1st round pick being a Cornerback increases greatly. Of course, there are still some other veteran names out there (like Nick Harper for instance) but the likelihood is going after a Corner in Round 1 like Aaron Ross.
Yes, it is confirmed. http://www.jetscentral.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1171769317&archive=&start_from=&ucat=5& Outrageous money, not worth it. Rather draft a CB with one of the 2nd or 3rd round picks.
I agree with ny2dave. Our first round pick needs to make our D-line more ferocious. Kimo was awful and Ellis has not been as good without (gasp) abraham. A DE is a must (unless those rumors about Drob being able to switch from DT to DE are true)
