Since nobody has yet come up with the answer I will try to get the answer thru a new thread. The question is......................... What if we DO NOT obtain the quality NT we need to make JV a superstar as some of you think what do we do with him? Do we continue to keep a non productive player on our roster?. Do we try to move him & take whatever we get in return for him? Do we try to try him at another position & hope the FB gods smile down upon on us & make him successful?
In order to have a successful 3-4 Defense, you must have a quality NT.... So basically, the answer to your question is, if we do not obtain a quality NT, having a slightly hindered MLB will be th eleast of our problems...
I really don't care if Vilma becomes a "superstar" or not, as long as our defense as a whole is doing well and shutting down opponents.
Also what is the timeframe you're setting for this to happen? I think the Jets will spend at least a few seasons with allowing D-rob or Pouha to become a great NT. And I think if we get a great DE via draft this year, our NT will have more opportunities to stop the run. That will also allow Vilma to play better at his position.
So are U saying that if we DO NOT secure that monster NT we should still keep JV even though you know he will give you zero production as the starting MLB?
good answer....JV is a young player and has and will show his worth in the years to come as a jet.... champ, how bout you go and support the pats or the bills if you are not happy that every player on our roster isnt a superstar....FFS, its getting really old. find something else to take your mind off menstruation.
Here's my answer. Yes, we keep him. Vilma is a 6-8 year solid starter or better at the MLB position. We aren't going to have a hole at NT forever.
This season is the time frame. You grasping at straws with DeW since he to has a bone on bone condition. In Poula case who knows since he has not played for us but in TC when healthy the reports were so-so on him so I would say again you maybe grasping at straws
Why do you assume that without a big NT VIlma will have 0 production as mlb? According to your view, since we don't have a "superstar" NT, then vilma was worthless this year. Didn't he lead in tackles? In his first year playing the 3-4??? I think calling that zero production is inaccurate.
In a 3-4 D, it is imperative to have one bigger, more physical MLB, and one smaller, faster, more athletic MLB..... Nobody else who fits that mold will do any better than Vilma without a true NT.... So yes, keep him on, because it's quite obvious we won't be winning too much without a NT..
So U are saying continue with JV as our starter at the MLB position even though you KNOW he is unproductive. So far I notice not one of you who replied have the guts to answer the question directly
It's hard to measure defense production numerically. A lack of stats in the passing game could mean he isn't getting thrown near just as easily as it could mean he's getting torched.
The Jets are trying to imitate the Patriots and to do that it all starts with a Beast at Nt. Once we get that and a pass rushing De Vilma will be a regular at the pro bowl.
