This is nothing official, but i just had an encounter with our Quarterback Chad Pennington and i figured i would post it here. First the story... I'm here at IMG Academies in Bradenton, FL training. This morning i hurt my knee and i went to the trainer to get it taped up and throw some ice on it, and on the bench next to me was Chad Pennington. First of all, what an unbelievable guy. He started talking to me right when i walked in, it was funny because we were wearing the same pair of Jets shorts. He asked me how my knee was and i said id live, its not nearly as bad as a torn rotator cuff. So we started talking about the different changes that have been going on with the Jets, and here is what we talked about: 1)Chad, and his agent both commented on the Adalius Thomas situation. He told me he had heard Thomas wasn't going to get franchise tagged and he was interested to see if the Jets were going to make a move. He was just a spectator on that point, no inside information. 2)Chad talked about his new QB coach a little bit and said he had been talking to him on the occasion already. He didnt say whether he liked him or not but he did already call him and assured him that he would be the starting QB next year 3)Chad commented on Brian Schottenheimer and he told me how much he loved him and that he hopes he still spends time with the QBs. 4)I asked Chad about Kellen and the competition and he kinda ignored the question. 5)Chad told me how amazing it was to see the progression of Mangini last year from the tough nosed no bullshit coach to becoming a joker at the end of the year. He had no hard feelings towards coach. Chad has been training at IMG academies for a little bit now. I see him doing several agility drills, a bunch of weight training, and throwing excercises. When he was with his trainer, they were talking about some tendonitis that he had in his ankle or quad area. I wonder if that was the injury that had put him on the injury report all season. He also told me a very funny and well told story about his trip to Europe for 2 weeks right after the season. He was on the beach and he took someones spot. The person happened to be a European soccer player who started screaming at Chad. Chad tells me that if they were to fight he would have gotten his ass kicked. So anyways, they start exchanging words and the guy says you know what fine take the spot. And Chad says "your lucky you walked away i was about to kick your ass." He told the story very well, very funny stuff. Overall, Chad was just awesome. A true delight to speak to. He was cracking jokes the whole time and was really just laid back. This is all my reporting, there is no link to this but this is all legit. I just wanted to fill you guys in.
Nice story - and Chad could kick the ass of any European soccer player. He's enormous compared to them!
sounds like a great experience...i woudlnt mind meeting a player from the Jets that I enjoy watching....but then again, dont see any out here in Ca. all i see are the damn 49ers....who gives a rats ass about Alex Smith, that cheap tipping bastard...haha
awsome story... so cool to have an experience like that. Also good to know that pennington is busting his ass in the offseason.
Good deal. I remember when his video throwing was put up on IMG's website last year it was a big deal because his arm didn't fall off... http://www.imgacademies.com/performance/jump.sps
Pennington is such an easy player to like. This isn't the first time someone has run into him like this.... last year 227's daughter was in a pub in the city, and she called her dad on her cell phone, and put.... Pennington on the phone with him! How cool was that?! Chad is perhaps the best pro anything that ever played in terms of being a great guy on the human level. Great story!
Gotta love Chad........ Really, my question is, what kind of training are you doing at IMG? Like what sport and level are you playing/competing at?
I hope the "starting QB" thing was just offseason rheotric because I really don't want to see him as starter again next year.
Well then you probably won't like watching the Jets next year, because I'd bet there's a better chance of Blaylock winning the RB job, then Pennington losing the QB job barring injury. Anyway great story man, sounds like you guys had a good convo.
I would not mind if he wins the job, FAIR and SQUARE. However, if assurances have already been given, the QB competition will be a joke like last years was.
I would love to meet PENNINGTON. That is a cool story. Pennington is goign to have a career year next year. I agree Pennington = King!
I'm in Sarasota (Lido beach actually) right now.. I should drive up!! I can use some knee rehab myself.. (Surgery #4 possibly on the way)
This kind of story just makes my day. Do you know how many guys we idolize on TV every week are jerks in real life? It is so cool to hear Chad is the real deal. We are lucky to have him.
