Ok. The how do you explain Ellis' horrible 2005 season when the Jets played a 4-3 and Ellis was rarely double teamed? And how do you explain him quiting and taking the last 3-4 games off in 2005 because the Jets were terrible while slackers like Abraham continued to play? Besides, say what you want about a 3-4 DE, do you honestly think Ellis is worth $10 million a year? For what? To occupy blockers and make 3 tackles a game?? Any way you slice it, the man is grossly overpaid. With the salary cap at $100 million and with 53 men on the roster, the average salary is about $2 million. I'd say that makes Barton a bargain at $3 million.
I thinks he's getting up there in age his instinces are not as good, and he's missed a few game this year
I agree with this, but I also agree that seeing Barton pulled in some key situations is not a good sign for him in terms of future with the team. It seems a trend with this FO, if you can call that a trend after one season, that when a player is pulled from situations that demand clutch play, they are on their way off the depth chart. I personally think the guy is a hell of a player and he brings the type of aggression that many players on our defense lack. It helps to have an enforcer on the field in any contact sport.
