Vilma heading to 'Skins? Saturday, March 3, 2007 By RANDY LANGE STAFF WRITER Is Jonathan Vilma on the trading block? E-mail: lange@northjersey.com
good. I just don't get the mentality sometimes. You draft a player and hope he can be the player Vilma is,and then........trade him? For draft picks and freakin backup when you have the cash for once to get a starting calliber RB?
How is that puting it to bed? To Washington? Yeah. To Detroit, Tampa Bay or Arizona in the Top 5? Nope, it's still there. All three run the 43, 2 of which run the Tampa 2. Jonathan Vilma is not assured of being a New York Jet next season as there have been reports of the Jets' interest in either Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson and to do that they would move into the Top 5 and either Coles or Vilma would be the most likely trading piece.
do u even know how that rumor got started.. it was a from a guy who i on another jets board. no real publication has reported this. it was just PFT rumor mill.
Just throwing it out there, i would throw Coles and the first round pick at a team to pick up Adrian Peterson. I dont know if i would do much more though. Then with my second round pick i would take Sidney Rice.
Tampa Bay has Barrett Ruud and they're happy with him in that slot as the heir apparent. Detroit and Arizona are possibilities but likely only in deals the Jets would regret.
I don't know. I think he's in for the long haul. Production counts more than a little bit of bitching about tough practices. Besides, you can't get rid of the joker of the team. That's like the Mets getting rid of Reyes.
Coles is great, but Calvin Johnson has all of his toughness, with more speed, more athleticism, better hands, and youth. And he's already shown he can be great despite an awful QB.
Why do you say that? Did Coles bitch a little bit throughout this year? Yes. But did it serve as any noticeable distraction? No. Did it ever stop him from going all out on the field? No. Does Mangini love tough players? Yes. Did Mangini repeatedly praise Coles toughness all year, calling him the toughest player on the team? Yes.
I really Hope Vilma, Coles don't go anywhere. The Jets need to build a foundation. I'm not sold on hi potential rookies. Those rookies got to prove to me 1st thatthey are the real deal.
Coles has a track record of getting himself off of teams in record time. Florida State, the Jets, the Skins. He worked his way off of all those teams in fairly quick order despite playing hard and producing in the chances he was given. Throw in the concussions and the other nagging injuries last year and I think it's fair to say he's probably 50/50 to be off the Jets headed into any given season. Right now the Jets really need him because they only have one other starting caliber WR on the roster. I'm guessing they move on somebody in the draft to try to rectify that. Maybe a 3rd round receiver brought in to watch for one season until Coles goes.
