I am not saying that Adalius Thomas is not a very good player or that I would not like for him to be a Jet today but I started doing some research on him when the rumor hit a week ago that the Jets were going to go all out for him and look what I found. This was his best year and here are his stats: total tackles 83, solo 64, sacks 11 Here are the stats this year for our Bryan Thomas: total tackles 77, solo 58, sacks 8.5 I would love to see the Jets focus on Joey Porter for our LB crew.
Good point, Im glad we didnt overpay for him but Im not too pleased that he signed with our biggest rival.
Considering Adalius was surrounded by better talent on the Ravens defense, you at least have to pause and consider those numbers.
Ty Warren, Vince Wilfork and Richard Seymour are as good if not better than Ngata, Suggs, pryce and Gregg. Adalius Thomas will have a sick year. Roosevelt Colvin and AThomas are the OLB's and Vrabel & Bruschi the ILBS. Just wait for the draft. You know Belichick loves his LB's. Shoot! The way they're going Patrick Willis will be rotating w/ Bruschi and Anthony Spencer will rotate w/ A Thomas.
bryan thomas is a non factor in coverage and not a great run stopper either. he's getting better but adalius thomas is already among the best in every category. saying we need a guy like adalius thomas is not a knock on bryan thomas though. he had a very good season but in a 3-4 defense you really need 2 good OLBs.
not a good run stopper??? c'mon you know b. thomas is a good run stopper. he's not adalius thomas, but he's really stepped up his game now that he's in the 3-4
Here's what I'm wondering. When did the ravens switch to the 4-3? did he still have big years in the 3-4 or does he have to make a transition into that system upon signing with the pats. As a linebacker, the 4-3 is a much easier system to play in because of the fact that he wont have to see blockers as often as in a 3-4 system. If anybody has any info on this it would be much appreciated.
A little bit of a side comment, but in anybody's wildest dreams could we ever have imagined Bryan Thomas having similar numbers to the hottest FA LB in this year's free agency period. And he gets a huge contract extension! Absolutely amazing what a difference a year makes...
bryan is clearly a pass rusher. while he isnt terrible against the run he isnt good either. by the way thats the case with every DE that converts to LB..it takes time.
thomas played OLB in the 3-4 in 2004, his first year as a starter. the ravens switched to a 4-3 defense in 2005
Well consider the fact that he was a D loaded with playmakers. The Pats have a good D aswell but not as good as the Ravens, BB will use him wisely.
Ty Warren is 26, Wilfork is 26, Seymour is 28, Thomas is 29. If they go out and sign a Patrick Willis, they are going to be scary. I hope they do not draft him. I do not want to talk about how much more effective Vrabel is at olb. Btw, lets be honest here. If we had Thomas we would be touting him as king of the nfl.
I have mentioned this before, i wasn't trying to compare the 2 b/c AT is better in coverage BUT they had similar production and we'll get BT at a fraction of the cost. I think all football fans are overrating AT b/c he is the flavor of the month in FA.

We need to find out the amount of guaranteed money, so far those #s haven't come out. That's the most important part of the contract.
