Cimini likes the trade...A RB still in his prime...Probably $12 mil guranteed... The questions from Benigno or Roberts are in bold... Anyone else Jets considered? Tons of options for RB's...The Jets were flirting with Chris Brown, TJ Duckett...A little involved with Travis Henry...But this was the guy, and Ladell Betts are the two guys the Jets were targeting...Was a good move, RB market in draft is VERY thin outside of Peterson... How were they able to recoup the 2nd rounder from Chicago? Moved down 26 spots...On the surface, they got Jones for a high 3rd round pick...A good value trade. Michael Turner...Scared off? The Chargers put the 1st and 3rd on him and made it clear that he wasn't going to budge, he wanted the 1st and 3rd...Maybe could of gotten something else...But for a 1st rounder and the contract he would of wanted...Turner is younger, so that would of been positive. Moves in the AFC East... Big story is the Pats so far, mostly picking up KMart free agents...This year they opened up the checkbook...Initially thought the Jets were going to get very involved in Adalius Thomas, would of been perfect in the Mangini system...Has concerns about Porter, has heard he got $20 million guaranteed? Cedric Houston's role? Ceddy will be an afterthought, this current administration doesn't think much of him, if they did, they wouldn't of made this trade...Jones isn't going to be a 25 carry a game guy...Very effective in his 1st 15 carries, will be a very nice complement with Leon...17-18 for Thomas, about 8-9 with Leon... Tight End? Joe likes Baker...Daniel Graham? Randy McMichael? Interested? Haven't heard the Jets going after TE's. Graham will cost too much...Hasn't heard anything on McMike, has some off the field baggage...And the Jets really like Baker, says he's under-utilized. Still need another playmaker, stretch the field, whether it's TE or WR...Maybe Greg Olsen is a possibility... Defensive side of the ball for the Jets? Going to be signing Kenyon Coleman today:beer:. Coleman is a backup 3-4 end, and can play the 3-4, big guy, pretty sure Parcells gave Tannenbaum a pretty good recommendation on Coleman...Expected to sign David Bowens, and wants to draft two defensive lineman with the 1st three picks... Secondary, why not Nate Clements? Cover Corner is a need...Especially with Barrett's hernia...Dyson is good. Miller is not a Cornerback to Cimini...Will be an area they look to address on the 1st day. Do you expect to see any more cuts? Shopping Eric Barton around, doesn't think Barton will be on the team, neither will Justin McCareins... Any more pickups? Tuiasosopo is on the Jets radar, will come in later this week...Brad Johnson would of been a good pickup, maybe get Tim Rattay. Need a vet to push Clemens? Jets are confident in Clemens to be the backup, but they want him to earn it from competition, don't want to leave themselves naked there, want someone to push Kellen. Speculation on Brad Smith as 3rd QB? NOT going to happen, they want him to focus on receiver. Jonathan Vilma rumor? Doesn't think Jets will trade Vilma, not Tannenbaum's style...Would be very surprised if Vilma is traded...Mangini likes him and the intangibles Vilma brings to the defense. Maybe see Kellen Clemens? If Chad goes through a spell like last season, on the INTs...And if Kellen comes along, he could very well see Clemens coming in and taking over the Jets...The leash will be shorter on Chad this year.
thanks for the update. leon needs the ball at least 12 times though. and with thomas being a tough runner it shouldnt be a problem to have around 30 total rushes for the team a game. coleman is pretty solid, i watched almost every cowboys game this year. and my best friend is a cowboys fan, when i mentioned we could be signing him he wasnt too happy.
How did they get him for a high 3rd rounder? That doesn;t make sense....they gave up 37 overall for him...to me thats a high 2nd round/low 1st round Also I hope he is wrong on th Jones carries thing. We need him to get 20 touches and be effective.
Why? I can't think of a reason. He's a 3rd down back (if he ever learns how to block). He's good out of the backfield. I can do without him running theb all much.
We gave up #37, but acquired Jones and #63. If you use the draft chart, the difference between #37 and #63 is #67. That's where they come up with that.
we obviously differ in opinion because of the simple fact I think our run blocking sucks. improve it and youll see leon making better plays. jones could barely avg over 4 ypc behind an even better run blocking line. thats just my logic, we differ. no big deal
thanks for the post. it is very informative, and written well. This is not what we usually get. We get a thread saying "so and so on the radio right now" then absolutely no info to follow up. Good Work!
Leon's blitz pickup skills improved greatly as the year progressed last season. Your assessment is not fair; Mangini would have never let him on the field if he was going to get Chad killed. Thanks for the post Ecko, quite informative...
Washington could easily get 8 touches on the ground and 4 in the air each game. That's the Bruce Harper role and it's an amazingly valuable one if you have the right kind of guy there. Washington is the right kind of guy.
Leon's touches shouldn't be much of a concern because he's not the type of player that needs a ton of touches to have an impact on a game.
Thanks for the recap. I liked hearing Tim Rattay's name. I know no one really cares about who the 3rd string QB will be next season but I think Tim Rattay is very underrated and would be a great addition to the Jets.
Thanks for the great recap, Ecko. Very happy to hear that they're going to sign both Coleman and Bowens.
