(TSX: CAM - News), located in Point of Rocks, MD, has landed a contract to fabricate the steel structure that will be used to build the new football stadium owned jointly by the New York Giants and New York Jets. The contract awarded to Structal by Skanska Koch is valued at just over CAN$100 million, while the cost of building the stadium is estimated at nearly US$1.4 billion (CAN$1.7 billion). Skanska USA Civil has a prime design-build contract valued at US$998 million (CAN$1.2 billion). This is the first time in football history that two professional teams have formed a partnership to build a new stadium. The 82,000-seat stadium is expected to open in 2010. It will be built between the Giants' current stadium and the recreational Meadowlands Xanadu complex in East Rutherford, NJ. This complex, which is currently under construction, is another Structal project. "Over the years, we've participated in the construction of 14 stadiums or sports facilities for professional teams," says Structal president Luc Pelland. "Our reputation in the construction of complex projects and our commitment to customer satisfaction are Structal's major trademarks." "The fact that we were awarded this contract is largely due to our tremendous production capacity and the expertise of our team," adds Charlie Watson, president of Structal's U.S. division. Fabrication of the structural steel components will begin in the summer of 2007 at Canam Group's St. G?d?on, QC and Point of Rocks, MD plants and will be completed around the end of 2008. I think it'd be fun to work on the stadium. If you're serious about this, why don't you go over to their office in Carteret (it's not a very big town... can't be that hard to find the company) and ask to speak to Skanska himself. Tell them you read the article, you're a huge Jets fan, and you'd love to help work on the project (bring a decent-looking resume' with you). You never know what they might say. If I were the head of the company, I'd be impressed that you had the balls and drive to come over here and ask for a job and I'd probably hire you.
I'd actually like to work in the stadium and be the Sound/ Music Coordinator for the JETS. The Meadowlands is a JOKE. NY/NJ should be cutting edge not fukin Heidi, Heidi, Heidi, Ho after a TD. Some songs are tradition but after a Win..."Celebrate, Celebrate, Dance to the Music..." Oh GOD! It is so Baaaad!! I did have a chance at one point to do It @ MSG. I actually got to go upstairs and play the organ/Keyboard and mess w/ the sound effects..
I've put in my resume to them a couple of times for a structural engineering position. I talked to someone at the Rutgers Career Fair this past summer and they seemed really interested (but could have just been putting on a show haha). The woman kept telling me about how she thinks they'd love to hire me and that the head of the company went to ND too so he would probably want me to come work for them. I made the mistake of not getting a business card and since then, I've heard nothing from them. O well. Can't hurt trying again I guess.
I dont care what anybody says...that Heidi Heidi Heidi Ho song IS BAD LUCK! i hate when they play it, something bad always happens, im not supersticious but this one is for real. Bad song...never play that again at a jets game.
