http://www.fflivewire.com/Article.asp?ID=392007kic5063id Cowboys re-sign Marc Colombo for 2 years/7 million Written by: John Clayton ? 3/9/2007 Source: espn.go.com A week after the Cowboys paid more than $49 million to add Leonard Davis to the right side of their defensive line, the Cowboys filled out the rest of the right side by re-signing right tackle Marc Colombo. Colombo received a two-year, $7 million deal that included a $4 million signing bonus. The Jets were among other teams pursuing the former Bears No. 1 draft choice, but Colomboopted to stay with the Cowboys. With Colombounder contract, Davis can now concentrate on playing right guard. Columbo's re-signing was considered a top priority of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He re-signed center Andre Gurode before the start of free agency and then added Davis last week. The return of Colomboends any uncertainty about the offensive line. Wow, that's a VERY small amount of money considering what they gave Leonard Davis.
We were more then 20 million under the cap going in. That was before the cuts we made and Curtis Martin's eventual retirement. I'm sure they knew and included the revised number. What have we spent? Next to nothing. We can get anyone we want at this point.
We had $15.9M in cap space before we traded for Jones, and signed Coleman and Barnes. There's not as much cap space available as everyone thinks.
And how much of those contracts will count against this year's cap? Where did you get that number anyway. The number mentioned since long before the season ended and even after was over 20 million. What did the cuts add? What will CM's retirement add?
thats shitty, i wanted him.... ...ill say it again though. Tannenbaum and Mangini aren't stupid....In TANGINI we trust.
Clayton, Cimini, etc. said on the day free agency began that the figure was around $15.9M. The $20M+ number was before Chad's incentives were factored in to the equation.
I'de still like to find out how much more they got back and will get back. Martin must have been due a lot this year.
We could save some nice money by cutting McCariens and Barrett I believe. Check the salaries page at TGG home page.. They are extremely high for the roles they play..
The $15.9M figure includes all the players who were released. I don't know how much Curtis will save.
Adrian Jones starting RT. Hopefully he comes into camp ready to go. He could be a very big player for us if he steps up.
F Adam Schein Good signing by Dallas, who clearly had no money after the Glenn Roster Bonus and Davis signing. Jets could have gave him a bit more money and gotten him but meh....
He's a question mark but he has more potential to be an upgrade over Clement. I don't see how you throw out a young guy for a DWI. We have had several great and near great players who were both young and stupid. Some people actually learn and mature.
In this article I did my best to guess at where the cap stands.... http://www.jetscentral.com/index.php?start_from=10&ucat=&archive=&subaction=&id=& If I recall correctly, once Martin's retirement is official, that is a 1.35 mil cap savings. Before that, I estimate the Jets cap at 9.5 mil, minus this FB we just signed. So, including Matrin, as a VERY rough guess by a rank salary cap amatuer (how's that for hedging?) I figure it's around 10 mil under, or there abouts. I think Mr T wants to keep it above 7 mil or so.... just another guess, so between TC cuts and the rookie draft, we're pretty much done... we also signed Wade since then.
