Round 2 is posted below in a reply thread. ROUND ONE 001. RAIDERS - Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech ? In an ideal world, this is what goes down. C. Johnson is the top blue chipper in a very thin group of blue chippers. The Raiders can address their nagging QB issue later in the draft as I have proven. === 002. LIONS ? Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin ? Like the Raiders, the Lions will address their greatest need and avoid paying the big bucks for a QB that could be a 50/50 bust and address an equally nagging QB issue later in the draft. === 003. BROWNS - Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame - A perfect fit in Cleveland. Quinn will bring the missing piece of the puzzle that?s been needed. Now that they?ve addressed running back in this off season and WR in past drafts, they can take Quinn here and address other problems later in the draft. === 004. BUCCANEERS - Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville ? A lot of people have Johnson going here and I just don?t think that happens. The Bucs need a serious defensive playmaker and this kid could be it. === 005. CARDINALS - Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson ? The Cardinals need an OT to protect Leinart but they also have a shabby defense being held together by Elmer?s glue and popsicle sticks. They can get an OT later on instead of over drafting Levi Brown. === 006. REDSKINS - Alan Branch, DT, Michigan ? This team desperately needs someone on the DLine that can command a two-person block. Nuff said. Although, I don?t think they keep this pick. Since they only have like 4 picks in the entire draft, they would probably be best dealing this pick away to a team that may want to move up. Perhaps a smart move would be dealing this pick to the Patriots for their two first round picks and their third round pick (#s 24, 28 and 91) That moves the Patriots up to get the one key player they really need and the Skins get back a draft that they dealt away. But since I?m not doing trades, Skins take the ?falling? Branch. === 007. VIKINGS ? JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU ? Why did JR drop this far? Cause he?s over rated, that?s why. What has Russell done to make himself worth the top pick in the draft besides beating Brady Quinn in the Bowl game? Anyone? Yeah, he?s got a cannon for an arm but I don?t think he?s anything special ? most likely another Byron Leftwich. I think he?s a possible bust. Someone like the Vikings will trade up to get him in the top three, but he deserves to go at 7. === 008. FALCONS - Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma ? I originally had the Texans taking AP here and I think he still goes at #8 but to the Falcons instead. The needs of the teams in 1-7 don?t scream ?RUNNING BACK? but the Falcons do. Dunn is both injury prone and entering his 11th season. Norwood isn?t the RB of the future. AP provides a HUGE distraction on the field for Vick to do his crazy moves. He also provides a big running game to take the pressure off of Vick. === 009. DOLPHINS - Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas ? The D-Line in Miami is nearing geriatric ages and they lost their DLine coach to our beloved Jets, so they need some young blood to mix things up. === 010. TEXANS ? Levi Brown, OT, Penn State ? They moved down in Round 1 and thus lose out on AP. They did get their supposed QB of the future in Schaub and now they need to do for him what they couldn?t do for Carr? protect him. === 011. 49ERS - Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska ? Sadly his buck stops here. I originally had him going to the Steelers at 15 but I don?t think he falls that far. I think the 49ers have a hard choice between Carriker and Willis but go to Carriker because he?s a perfect 3-4 fit. === 012. BILLS - Patrick Willis, ILB, Ole Miss ? With London Fletcher gone and Takeo Spikes looking to leave for a 2nd round pick supposedly in a trade, the Bills NEED a LB of the now (and not of the future). They also need a CB in this draft but LB is a bigger need and they can go for another CB and another LB in other rounds. === 013. RAMS - La?Ron Landry, S, LSU - BPA === 014. PANTHERS ? Leon Hall, CB, Michigan - BPA === 015. STEELERS - Lawrence Timmons, LB, Florida State ? Two words? Joey Porter. === 016. PACKERS - Marshawn Lynch, RB, California ? Again, another perfect fit. I?ve seen mocks that have Lynch dropping as far as the Giants at 20 but I don?t think he gets further than the packers. They?ll be looking for someone to carry the load full time. This kid is it. === 017. JAGUARS - Michael Griffin, S, Texas === 018. BENGALS - Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas ? Since the Bengals have the highest arrest rate of any team in sports history, and CB is a HUGE position of need (as well as LB, DLine and Safety) they go with the best on the board with Houston. === 019. TITANS - Ted Ginn, WR, Ohio State ? Teddy Ginn is the X-Factor that the Titans need to really push themselves into being a top tier team. This gives Vince Young another target and the team gets the best return man in college football. === 020. GIANTS - Anthony Spencer, DE/OLB, Purdue ? The Giants need to rebuild this team. I think Jerry Reese is not the man to help them do that and Coughlin needs to be chased out of NYC ASAP. Spencer can bring the versatility that the defense lacks with an aging Strahan and a weak secondary. The Giants will probably address their secondary in Round 2. === 021. BRONCOS - Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia ? The most obvious need is DLine for the Broncos. Charles Johnson is a wise pick here and he fills a big need. === 022. COWBOYS - Reggie Nelson, S, Florida - BPA === 023. CHIEFS - Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU ? I don?t think this team even has any WRs on roster. So this is a wise choice. === 024. PATRIOTS - Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State ? The same jibberish about the Pats needing to rebuild their LB corp. === 025. NY JETS - Justin Blalock, OL, Texas ? I think this is a given pick for the Jets. We finally get the RB of our dreams in Thomas Jones to match up with Leon Washington to split the carries and we need that one key player to open up the holes in the defense so that Jones? 8 moves in the backfield can turn into positive yardage. He?ll look nice in Green and White. I was torn between Blalock and Jarvis Moss, but I feel this draft is deep enough in defense where we can get someone else later on. === 026. EAGLES - Jon Beason, LB, Miami - BPA === 027. SAINTS - Aaron Ross, CB, Texas ? The Saints lack that playmaker in their secondary. Many believe and so do I, that their secondary?s weakness was the reason they didn?t get into the Super bowl. Taking Ross here would be a natural pick. === 028. PATRIOTS - Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh - BPA === 029. RAVENS - Jarvis Moss, DE/OLB, Florida ? Losing Adalius Thomas won?t sting for too long? === 030. CHARGERS - Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC ? The Chargers need a deep threat WR and many people have said that Jarrett wont live up to the hype. I think he?s going to translate VERY well into the NFL. === 031. BEARS - Greg Olsen, TE, Miami ? The Bears are good on tight end. Just not great. === 032. COLTS - Brandon Meriweather, S, Miami ? Yes, the Colts need to fix their run-stopping ability, but they also need to fix their secondary.
ROUND TWO 033. RAIDERS - Drew Stanton, QB, Michigan State – Like I said in Round 1, there are 5 solid QBs in this draft. I think JR is the 4th best but because of his size he’s seen as the best or in my eyes, second best. Drew Stanton solves the problem that the Raiders have. He can launch the long bomb down the field for that 80-yard TD pass and he can move around in the pocket to let plays develop. === 034. LIONS - Trent Edwards, QB, Stanford – The lesser of these two guys but still a good QB that can develop in the Lions system. Kitna is getting ancient and they need to bring in a young gun-slinger to elevate this offense. They have the tools; they just need the QB to make it happen. === 035. BUCCANEERS - Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina – Getting CJ was a dream that will never be achieved. === 036. BROWNS - Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee – A solid lineman that can help the Browns defense. === 037. BEARS - Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn – Maybe if people would block for Rex he wouldn’t get hit so much, maybe… === 038. CARDINALS - Tony Ugoh, OT, Arkansas – See explanation for number 37. As I eluded in Round 1, Leinart does need blocking in order to be successful. He gets it with Ugoh. === 039. FALCONS - Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan – Wayne Gandy is entering his 14th year in the NFL and there isn’t anyone behind him that screams “REPLACEMENT.” === 040. DOLPHINS - Zach Miller, TE, Arizona – A great blocking TE that can catch the ball when he has to and is a vertical threat in the short-yardage passing game in the red zone. === 041. VIKINGS - Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee – The Vikings simply do not have a WR threat. Meachem’s freefall ends here. === 042. 49ERS - Aaron Sears, OL, Tennessee === 043. BILLS - Anontio Pittman, RB, Ohio State – With the departure of McGahee, this is a good fit. === 044. FALCONS - LaMarr Woodley, OLB, Michigan === 045. PANTHERS - Ryan Kalil, C, USC === 046. STEELERS - Tim Crowder, DE/OLB, Texas === 047. PACKERS - Daymeion Hughes, CB, California === 048. JAGUARS - Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno State === 049. BENGALS - Brandon Siler, LB, Florida – Cornerback was need #1 and need #2 is LB. Siler will be a fine addition. === 050. TITANS - Brian Leonard, RB/FB, Rutgers – It would be nice to see Leonard in Green and White in NY but sadly he’ll be wearing blue and white. The Titans only have Lendale White and Ahmard Hall. Leonard can provide a change up to White who is the presumed starter. === 051. GIANTS - Manuel Ramirez, OG, Texas Tech – Eli Manning’s blind side needs to be guarded. They have been tampering with moving Diehl over to tackle and they can put Ramirez in at guard so Eli Manning can have a hopefully longer career and fewer excuses. === 052. RAMS - Stewart Bradley, LB, Nebraska === 053. COWBOYS - Brandon Mebane, DT, California === 054. CHIEFS - DeMarcus Tyler, DT, NC State === 055. SEAHAWKS - Victor Abiamiri, DE, Notre Dame === 056. BRONCOS - Rufus Alexander, OLB, Oklahoma === 057. EAGLES - Eric Weddle, S, Utah – This guy played QB, WR, Punter, Kicker, Safety, Corner and Linebacker in High School. In college he played OLB, S and CB. The Eagles need to know that their secondary is secure so they can play with more of a swagger. He’ll be in green and white just for the wrong city. === 058. SAINTS - Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio State – Marques Colston was a pleasant surprise for the Saints – although I knew he’d be successful from watching him at Hofstra. With Joe Horn’s departure, they have Michael Lewis and Devery Henderson as their other options and like Marques did to Donte, they should bring in Anthony Gonzalez to provide some thicker competiton. === 059. NY JETS - Josh Wilson, CB, Maryland – Everyone wants us to go CB in Round 1. I think that is a terrible idea. Mangini made Asante Samuel into a star player and he was a mid-round pick. I think CB is a bigger need so we go with it a little earlier and get a great player. === 060. DOLPHINS – Josh Beekman, OG, Boston College – They don’t really know who their QB is but they should have someone in place to protect whoever that poor shmuck is. === 061. RAVENS – Quentin Moses, DE/OLB, Georgia – They really don’t have depth at this position and imagine this O-Line: (DT’s) Haloti Ngata and Kelly Gregg with (DE’s) Quentin Moses and Terrell Suggs. Yeah, it’s that sweet. === 062. CHARGERS - David Harris, ILB, Michigan – In case Merriman decides to shoot up again… === 063. NY JETS - Ikaika Alama-Francis, DE, Hawaii – Yes, we need a DLineman. We all know it, so lets just go for it here. This guy looks NASTY on film and his numbers and I think going from wearing black in Hawaii to green in NY is a nice change of scenery and attire. === 064. BUCCANEERS – Aaron Rouse, S, Virginia Tech – This guy is a perfect choice for the Bucs that lack a compliment to Will Allen. ===
Would you mind elaborating as to why? Before the Schaub trade I had them going for AP but AP won't fall to 10 so I have them going for Levi Brown to protect their new investment in Schaub. It makes sense and they shouldn't go impact offensive player in 1 and since they wont pick again till Rd 3, I think this is the best move. Unless they trade down to re-acquire picks.
I was definately torn between the two of them. You don't have a guarantee Beekman will be there and we have other needs that should be addressed so I went OLine, CB and DE to sure up those three major holes.
why would the giants take a DE? They need a true linebacker, not a 3-4 linebacker. Giants already have 4 DEs in Strahan, Umenyiora, Tuck, and Kiwanuka who can start now
Definately a breath of fresh air from all the other mocks. It's good to see something a little different that still makes sense.
I'd honestly rather we go Moses at 59 and Wilson at 63 (I think we have enough DEs at this point), but I love our draft other than that, and the draft overall seems pretty sound and as mentioned above goes a bit off the beaten path that most mocks are following now. I also think Moss goes to the Steelers at 15 because Timmons is only a 4-3 OLB, while Moss would be either a 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 DE, either of which the Steelers need regardless of which defense they run. He'd be a more direct replacement for Porter. On a side note, as much as I love the guy's talent, if Moss is there at 25, I may have to pass as well. I heard one of his interviews on XM and the guy didn't present it well and the interview had to actually get cut prematurely because Moss was too busy dicking around in the backfround with his peeps to do the interview. Seems like too much of a punk and like his head isn't into it enough. This isn't just a Mangini thing; I see a lot of teams passing on him if this is the way he presented himself to them, with such disrespect.
Going by how your draft went, I would have gone with: 1. Jarvis Moss 2a: Josh Beekman 2b: Josh Wilson (I am guessing no other teams would pick him up until this pick)
I stopped reading at pick 3. I've said it once, I'll say it again. You take away Charlie Frye and the Browns are nothing. He doesn't run their offense: He carries it and their defense is amazing considering how quickly the offense gives the ball back to their opponents. They have ever so many positions (hint: name a position besides QB, S, LB and TE) of need and there is no sane reason for them to draft a quarterback in the first or any early round this year. The Browns' needs are at DE, OL, WR, and RB. Jamal Lewis is not the long term solution (old, career going downhill and only a 1 year contract) and noone is proud of Joe Jurevicius being their #2 receiver. While the rest of the group (WR) are young, they need better talent. The entire OL is a joke and would've had major improvement if it weren't for Bentley's horrible injury.
- Amobi Okoye to #4 and Branch to #6? Alan Branch might not be Top 10 anymore and I doubt Okoye goes THAT high. - I really don't think the Falcons will take Adrian Peterson.... - I doubt the Giants take a DE or 3-4 OLB with Anthony Spencer - The 1st round is somewhat reasonable otherwise... - I don't like Trent Edwards or Drew Stanton going where they do, but Stanton makes more sense there. Edwards is more of a gamble that high. - I'm not crazy about getting a DE at #63...
