That is the best post I have ever read here! Funny as hell, but I think all 3 guys are pretty good players, and should be worth a 4th or so. Maybe not Barrett with that injury, but he's not bad.
I have not been able to decipher the media on Barton at all. He was clearly one of the two dynamic linebackers on the Jets last year and he's also clearly in the doghouse somehow. I'm guessing the Jets want him to take a paycut and he's saying no, and Mangini has issues with his hotheadedness on the field, never knowing when it's going to flare. Mangini likes cool cucumbers who come with no surprises at bad times. That's very much a Belichik trait.
I would hate to see Barrett and Barton go. Barrett is a decent 2nd CB and we are thin there to begin with. Barton is solid, not sure of his cap number but he is definatley solid. I'd care the least about seeing JMac go, but after he got out of the dog house last year, he made some good plays for us. I think he is a good #3. If the CS feels good enough about B. Smith replacing him then I suppose he is expendable.
Thanks for replying on my behalf - I couldn't bring myself to get involved in another of Champ's bizarre and insanely argumentative rambles.
Jets Looking for 1st Day Pick for McCareins Former Titan WR could return By Terry McCormick, tmccormick@nashvillecitypaper.com April 19, 2007 A familiar face could potentially wind up on the Tennessee Titans? radar as they seek to bolster their wide receiver corps, ravaged by free agency this offseason. The New York Jets are shopping former Titans receiver Justin McCareins around the NFL, and Tennessee is a team that could have interest in bringing back the former fourth-round pick. ?I talked to Mike Reinfeldt about three weeks ago and he told me they definitely would have some interest in Justin at the right price,? McCareins? agent Cliff Brady said. According to Brady, the Jets have been attempting to deal the six-year veteran, who spent his first three seasons with the Titans, and Brady has done some deal brokering of his own. ?The Jets have been shopping him around the league, and I?ve been shopping him around to clubs myself, but right now I think their asking price is maybe a bit too high to get a deal done. Hopefully, it will come down a bit as we get a little closer to draft day or maybe even during the draft and something can get done.? Brady said he believes the Jets are currently seeking a first-day (first three rounds) pick for McCareins, whom they acquired from Tennessee in 2004 for a second-round choice. Also, Brady said he believes the Titans would be perhaps the best fit for his client, as do some of the other people he has talked to around the NFL. ?I?ve even talked to some other teams who say he would be a great fit in Tennessee,? Brady said. Reinfeldt, who is seeking to bolster the Titans receiving corps as he prepares for his first draft as Tennessee?s general manager, wouldn?t comment specifically about McCareins or their level of interest in him, but did say, ?there?s always conversations about trades this point of the year. It?s part of the normal course of business.? The Titans have extra picks in the fourth and sixth rounds of this year?s draft after trading away quarterbacks Steve McNair and Billy Volek last year. McCareins is coming off a sub-par season in which he had just 23 catches as the Jets? third receiver. His best season came his first year in New York when had 56 receptions. Still, besides Brandon Jones, McCareins? 2006 was more productive than the other five receivers on the Titans? roster, who had just 22 catches combined a year ago. McCareins could also help fill the void at punt and kickoff returns caused by the suspension of Adam ?Pacman? Jones and the free agent loss of Bobby Wade. McCareins has averaged 9.3 yards per punt return in his career and had a 20.9 yard average as a kickoff returner during his time with the Titans. Salary-wise, McCareins is scheduled to make $2.9 million this season, and Brady indicated that if the receiver wound up back in Tennessee, he would be open to lowering that number with a new deal, if the Titans were so inclined
Brad Smith could in fact beat out McCariens...i dont think he will, but then again we should be drafting a WR in our first 4 picks....that WR will compete and most likely take over the 3rd or 4th receiver slot, with Brad Smith taking the other spot on the depth chart
We all agree that he can't catch, overpaid and should probably be the 4th WR on the depth chart but here are talking about trading him as if there is a large market out there for stone hands over-paid scrubs. Why do fans and writers do this? You can't trade garbage for gold in real life or professional sports.
well we'd have Kassel, Schlegel and probably Hobson competing for the ILB spot next to Vilma, with Hobson most likely winning that battle. of course, this is speculation since there's no evidence of this happening, but if we draft an OLB, then it really makes sense for Hobson to move inside because we'll have a plethora of OLB's while being very thin at ILB; not to mention, Hobson has ILB experience, albeit at Michigan. cheers
