Just want to say this is a great board, been lurking for sometime now. Often I find Jets news here before it is reported elsewhere. Anyway Mike Francesa has been saying for the past year that the NFL rules state you must close your retractable roof for inclement weather. Everything I have read has been to the contrary, in fact a recent NY Times article quoted NFL Rep Tom Aiello saying that the team has up to 90 minutes before gametime to decide what they want to do regardless of weather. Does anyone here have a link to the actual rule? Searched NFl.com, can't find a thing. Is there a website that has every NFL rule and their corresponding number? I would support any new stadium for the Jets if they were not going to use the roof. That is why I initially supported the West side stadium, because the Jets announced they would not use the roof for any Jets home games.
Welcom aboard and good luck. I'm sure that I spoeak for many that will say that because of your name and your 1st post Being a quote from some self-proclaimed Demi-God you will not be taken seriously. But, i'll give you the benefit of.... I believe baseball has a rule that the decision can be made upto 90mins - 1/2 before the game. (Correct me if i'm wrong) So i'm sure Football follows a similar rule Guidelines for Movement of Retractable Roofs The decision as to whether a game begins with the roof open or closed rests solely with the home club. If the game begins with the roof open: It shall be closed only in the event of impending rain or other adverse weather conditions. The decision to close the roof shall be made by the home club, after consultation with the Umpire Crew Chief. The Umpire Crew Chief shall notify the visiting club, which may challenge the opening of the roof if it feels that a competitive imbalance will arise. In such an event, the Umpire Crew Chief shall make a final decision based on the merits of the challenge. (Arizona, Houston, Seattle, Toronto): Once the roof is closed during a game, it shall not be reopened. (Milwaukee Only): The roof may be re-opened by following the procedures for opening the roof as detailed below. If the game begins with the roof closed: (Toronto Only): It shall not be opened at any time during the game. (Arizona, Houston, Milwaukee, Seattle): It may be opened when, in the opinion of the home club, the climatic environment has reached a level where fan comfort and enjoyment will be best served by opening the roof to the natural atmospheric conditions. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the following guidelines should be applied opening the roof during a game. The roof may be opened only once during the game. The Umpire Crew Chief will be notified at the commencement of the inning that the roof will be opened at the inning's conclusion. The Umpire Crew Chief shall notify the visiting club, which may challenge the opening of the roof if it feels that a competitive imbalance will arise. In such an event, the Umpire Crew Chief shall make a final decision based on the merits of the challenge. The opening of the roof shall only commence between innings. (Arizona Only): The roof shall be opened in a pair of 2 minute, 15 second intervals; one interval at the conclusion of an inning and one interval at the conclusion of the next inning.
Royal tee, no money is made on the site, so I'm not trying to advertise here, just figured sports fans might be interested in it. Rest assured the site is more anti-Mike Francesa than pro, as you will see by checking out the message board.
Hence the benefit. I found it hard to believe that a Pro-Fatcessa would join up here. But crazier has happened. Honestly though, are you a JETS fan? Anti-Mike&Mad? or just lost and looking to find your way? Either way , poke and pry and enjoy your time here.
Royal I am a Jets fan, my earliest memory is being a little kid and distraught that the Jets lost to the Dolphins in the championship game. That loss and the loss to Denver in the other championship game were the 2 worst losses for me as a Jets fan.
AJ Duhe & Keith Byars Wake you up in a cold sweat??? Doug Brien & Mak Gastineau playoff nightmares aren't too far behind ya know
F'ing Byars. That happened right in front of me and coincidentally, Mike Francessa who we were sitting right behind. I was so drunk because we were worried about traffic that we got there like 4 hours early. We parked next to the big-time tailgaters and all we had was beer and chips. It was so freaken cold and windy. Anyway, that play Byars catches it, turns and sees Romo AND Cadrez gaining on him in a steroid induced rage and he basically tripped over his own feet and started fumbling it before he even got hit. That was awful.
It figures that Byars did not fumble once all year and boom! there goes the ball. AJ Duhe is the killer along with the quamire of a field. I hold brien the least culpable.
Tell that hack that I have my eye on him this year, and I'll watch intently as he butchers his Derby picks, and changes his story thereafter. Tickets. I want to see the tickets!!
LMAO that blog on that site is one of the saddest things I've ever seen on the internet. What do you do, listen to every minute of them every day, and as soon as you hear the slightest thing wrong you bash them on it? Geez....you know...there is espn radio, and there's tons of sports stations on satellite radio. You don't have to listen to them. I'm not a huge mike and the maddog fan, but damn. And saying they don't think the Jets will take a QB in the first round isn't exactly a rediculous statement.
No I don't listen to them everyday, do you see a post every day of the week. Espn radio sucks, I never said I hate Mike and the Mad Dog, it is the only show that deals with the major NY sports teams in somewhat of an objective manner Espn radio either does too much national or they have horrible hosts like Michael Kay and the loudmouth Smith. Please don't bring the simpleton arguement that if you post negatively about someone why do you listen to them.
Thanks, does anybody know where I can find the official rule, including rule number etc. One thing though, it doesn't make sense that the officials have control over it, this is football not baseball, are you implying that the officials can close it if there is inclement weather, it is my understanding that if a team wants to remain open air, they can.
