Jets | Andruzzi interested in team Fri, 4 May 2007 10:47:11 -0700 J.P. Pelzman, of the Bergen Record, reports free-agent OG Joe Andruzzi (Browns) would be interested in playing for the New York Jets should the team show interest in him, according to agent Joe Linta.
coinsidering he was making 1.5 mil b4 being cut by the browns, he is from the area, and has injury history...i think he would settle for cheap
Is this guy any good? I mean, he did start for the Pats for 6 years and the Browns last year, and he's 2 years younger than Kendall, so maybe we should take a chance with him... Edit: That's 5 with the Pats and 2 with the Browns...
Joe's a great guy. He did have a knee issue last year, but he'd be a good back-up. Hard worker and solid team player. I wouldn't mind the Pats picking him up for depth.
He's been in the league for 11 years thou. But I guess he would be worth a look or two since he played for the Patriots for a few years. Andruzzi was an all-city selection at Tottenville High School in Staten Island, playing both offense and defense. He attended Southern Connecticut State University, where he played every position on the offensive line, and was a starter for the Fighting Owls all four years. He was a Division II All-American his junior and senior years. During his senior season, he was an offensive team captain, as the team set several offensive records. Pro career Andruzzi was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Green Bay Packers in 1997 and spent that entire year on the Packers' roster, although he did not play in any games, including the Packers' run to Super Bowl XXXII. Prior to the 1998 NFL season, Andruzzi was allocated to NFL Europe by the Packers and played for the Scottish Claymores, earning All-NFL Europe honors in the process. He later returned to Green Bay and backed up Marco Rivera at guard. He platooned at guard with Mike Wahle the following season, but was forced to sit out several games due to a MCL sprain. He was waived by the Packers before the 2000 NFL season and quickly signed with the New England Patriots. He was a full-time starter for the squad, and won three Super Bowl rings with the team before signing with the Browns as an unrestricted free agent in March of 2005. Andruzzi's coach, Romeo Crennel, was the defensive coordinator for the Patriots when Andruzzi was with the squad. He was released on May 2, 2007, in an unexpected move, as he was signed with the Browns through 2008. ] Trivia Andruzzi has three brothers (Marc, James and William), who are all New York City firefighters, and participated in extinguishing the fires caused by the September 11, 2001 attacks. Andruzzi resides on Staten Island, and has a significant following in that borough of New York City despite having played for a division rival of the New York Jets while at New England. Joe once paid for 100 New York City Firefighters to attend a game between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots. Joe and his wife Jennifer have three children Hunter, Breanna and Thomas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Andruzzi
that was a damn good report. some of ya'll sound like beat writers. that's why i love this site. all the info. "PF4JETS" great thread!" "kudo's"...
I was wondering about that when I saw on the ESPN bottom line that he was cut by the Browns. I'd be in full support if the Jets went for him, hopefully for cheap tho.
I used to work with his mom at SJU...nice lady. If he's healthy enough, give him a shot. Plus I went to Tottenville--until they requested I continue my education somewhere else!
If he passes the physical and the medical staff thinks he can come back from the injuries, I don't see any reason not to want Andruzzi, even for a stopgap. We could definitely use the help at guard.
My friend in cleveland said Andruzzi was the worst player on the oline last year which is why he was the first player cut after the draft. He said Andruzzi will get chad killed. He was the main reason Charlie Frye got popped so much. He did say that after the bad injury in NE he just never regained his strength. He also battled a knee injury last season (not sure if its the same one). Bottom line: He has 3 SB Rings, so he could be a good teacher/mentor for the young guys. If we sign him, I hope it is for cheap.
