The fact of the matter is that Jones and Washington are far more talented than Houston is. That was all I meant by my comment. I was in Houstons corner after the '05 season too, but he hasn't shown a whole lot when given the opportunity. There's a reason we traded for Barlow last season and Jones this season.
The Bills lost their best offensive player, we gained the NFC champion's best offensive player. The Bills lost their best defensive player, we gained two top 25 talents on Defense and solidified our weekest position (DE). I'm guessing this Bills homer forget to make mention of that.
Carries won't matter that much as Jones and Leon are both capable of being great for us. All I hope is that Jones can push vilma into gaining 15 pounds this offseason and be a force in the 3-4.
i can?t see us copying McAllister/Bush, the saints RBs caught over 150 passes last season, thats nearly as much as their WRs and TEs. Our RBs caught about 60-70 and it would have been less, if we would have had a relieable running game. They got many plays where the first read is a RB in the Flat, and then check on a Wide Out, in our offense, on nerly every play (exept for screens and swings of course) the first read is a Wide out and RBs are most of the time used for hot routes only, to beat the blitz. Thats imo the main reason y brees only threw 11 ints this year on 550+ attempts (he never had less ints per att in his carrear), if the flat is open, he just dumps it off, and the RBs are gonna make something happen. Brees got a lot of preasure, and i think thats not cuz he got a bad O-Line, but because there are simply less blockers than on other teams. Thats also the reason, why Colston had such a good season, he isn?t that good of a WR as his stats tell, he isn?t that fast and he isn?t that shifty, he also can?t beat good coverages, but he got good hands, is a very relieable big target, and the most importent thing, he got a nose for the weak spot in the coverage. He gets most of his catches when the RBs are covered, that means there got to be some holes in the mid level of the field, and he?s very good in finding this holes. This is a gamplan, i don?t wanna see here, and i think its not the best for the personal we got, 1. Chad has his best performances when he got time to stand in the pocket, so we need a good pass block 2. We ain?t got a FB that can catch the ball our FBs are blockers ONLY 3. our WRs are too good to not be the first read 4. our RBs aren?t good enough to gameplan only on them (opponents D doesn have to respect them that much as receivers, as they have to respect reggie, sorry, but thats the way it is) 5. we would have to send barnes on route and keep baker in to block often, don?t think thats a good thing. I can see leon as a typical 3rd down/change of pace back he?ll imo get about 20%-30% percent of the carries + some screens. Don?t forget, that Jones also is a pretty good receiver, who can make something happen after the catch.
improvise These pre-set carries you guys hypothesize are ridiculous. Remember the system- the appropriate player is going to be utilized on a week to week basis, just like last year, but now it will be effective. While I doubt that Leon will out perform TJ in practices this year, I have no doubt that LW will see twenty touches in some games, BASED ON THE GAMEPLAN. Lets not forget about Brad Smith and Cedric Houston either. RUN GAME GOT SOME DEPTH, GREEN!
No Furthermore, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Brian Schottenheimer isn't neck deep in Saints offensive game film. Any good OC know to steal from the best offense in the league, especially when the Jets offensive seems so conducive to the Saints play-action and screen schemes.
washington will probably be our 3rd down back, and most likely be 70-30 with thomas jones getting the heavier bulk of carries.
You know, it's too bad Thomas didn't play for the Colts when we traded for him because then we could call him Indiana Jones.
