...give the guy a break, I don't think it will happen, but it isn't as weird as some of the other posts people come up with........

I was thinking there's no way that this is gonna happen, you don't trade for a guy just to trade him away...yet that very well may happen!!!

    Great thread!

It's actually a very good idea. I doubt it will happen, but it would be a fair trade for both clubs, and it would great sense for us.

Guys, people don't bash noobs who make intelligent posts. Stop beating on him. It was a good post, and he didn't include a poll, like so many other noobs have done.

    Good job USAFJetsFan!

That's a good idea. I dont' know what these other guys are talking about. Abe and Ramsey for Schaub, a 2nd or a 3rd, and a 6th

That's insane, you just traded a 6th for Ramsey, and you think that's going to net you Schaub.

Atlanta wasn't willing to give up Schaub or a 1st for Abraham, and now you're going to get both by throwing in Ramsey ??

So far as the Redskins getting mid rounders from both teams, they've already got what they could get for him, and it turns out it was a 6th rounder.

Atlanta doesn't want to give Schaub away cheap, because we've gone that route with Favre, and it burned us. I hated that trade when we made it, and Shaub has shown us enough to know he's got the goods. Not only does he have the talent, he has what it takes between the ears. Very smart, disciplined, and accurate.

He's gonna make some team a very good franchise QB.

So you are a Falcon fan..what do you think would be a fair trade for abraham?

Not your wish list, a fair trade.

I would have traded Shaub straight up for Abraham.

That's us giving up a guy we fill can be a franchise QB, for an Elite DE.

Now before you scoff at that and say, but Shaub has only played in 2 or 3 games.

How many has Leinhart, Young or Cutler played in ? None

Why is it that no one would have a problem drafting Leinhart at #4, but a guy that has played well against NFL competition is only worth the equivalent of a high third ??

Shaub has played very well in every game he's been called upon, he has all the tools, and he has it together between the ears. Not only that, he's VERY cheap for the next 2 years. Anyone you draft at the top of the 1st round is gonna cost a ton of money.

So you're getting a QB that has already shown he can read defenses and make plays in the NFL as opposed to the unknown with a draft pick. The reason no one in Atlanta wants to give Shaub up cheap is because we're still sore from being bent over in the Favre trade. We believe Shaub has the intangibles to be every bit as good.

Shaub and a 2nd is like asking us for a 1st and a 2nd, because we feel Shaub is first round talent. He's only 24 1/2 with 2 good years of NFL experience.

I hear what you are saying but what you must remember is you are talking about POTENTIAL while seeking a GUARANTEED (elite was your word) Player.

A known quantity vs a potential.

You need to take more risk (ie; add something) on your part.

And also I think he has one year left on his contract, not two.

I think we recognize the potential in him, which is why we are interested. but not at a straight up price.

I see what you're saying, but you would trade Abraham for the 2nd pick in the 1st round.

You'd also be willing to draft POTENTIAL (your word) in Leinhart at that pick. POTENTIAL with a HUGE contract.

There's been talk of the Jets trading up to #2, for Leinhart.

So far as Schaub only having one year left on his contract, that's true, but next year he is a RFA. So it's essentially 2 years CHEAP, or with a moderate tender you get a 1st & 3rd as compensation if you lose him. That gives you 2 years to determine he's the future, or recoup a 1st & 3rd. Once you insert Schaub in the lineup, Penningtons days are numbered.

Schaub is worth more than anything you'll get with that 1st rounder Seattle has offered.

Well..if he's a RFA then he can command a big $ contract next year. Are you going to match and pay all that $$$ to 2 QBs? not likely

So you need to get value for him while you can (Unless you are getting rid of Vick..but that issue has not been broached here yet).

I am not one of those that wants to draft a QB..I feel D'Brick or Mario williams are better picks for the Jets as we rebuild.

So we pick either of those two guys and STILL have the Abraham chip.

Bottom line to me..you would have to throw a #2 rd (and maybe we give back a #6 rd) or #3rd for me to trade Abe for Schaub.

No, we wouldn't match the offer, if someone signed him, we'd take the 1st & 3rd round compensation. We already have our franchise QB.

A team like the Jet's that needs a franchise QB with his throwing arm sill intact would match the offer, or if they decided he wasn't their QB of the future (NOT LIKELY) they would let him go and recoup a 1st & 3rd rd pick in next years draft.

It's like you get a 1 year trial on a franchise QB, for less than a million dollars.

That's an unspoken and under-rated rationale, IMHO. Favre is like the Curse of the Bambino in Boston... once you've been burned like that -- OUCH.

Plus, with Vick spouting off about the so-called West Coast Offense, it must give a team pause when they're sitting on a guy who has all the markings of a quality leader. If trading Vick seems out of the question, didn't everyone and his mother think the same applied to Culpepper and Moss?

With Ramsey, we'd crossed that bridge and needed closure. With Schaub, Atlanta has a hot commodity who hasn't had a chance yet. Green Bay learned its own lesson with Hasselbeck.

Once bitten, twice shy. No wonder they won't go easy on Schaub. How could you blame them?

I guess we will have to see how this works out.

I can see Tagliebue getting involve at some point..but it will be resolved in a trade of some sort.

Not to mention the last time our GM McKay dealt with the Jets, he got bent over in the Keyshawn deal. I'm sure he's still sore over that as well.
