Taking your idea..why not just trade Abraham directly to denver for #29 and byepass atlanta entirely.?
You could do that, if Denver is willing to meet his contract demands, and Abraham is willing to sign there. Taking my idea the Falcons could conceivably trade our 2nd and 3rd to Denver for #29, and then trade it for Abraham. As soon as I get a little more pull in the front office I'll suggest it. I just want this deal completed so both teams can get on with the rest of their offseasons.
Come on guys, our 2 and 3rd round is a good offer. besides not like you guys are going far next year.....
I have to tell you. To think that you can hold your two best assets (#15 and Schaub) out of the trade for a player you are dieing to get is really ballsy thinking. I think its going to cost you because without either of those 2 he's going to Seattle for the #31.. my opinion
Hey Jabba, Respect your opinion and posts and I have responded to you before under my old name MC Heimer. Needed a name change lol. I agree with you in this topic and was curious as to how you really feel we will deal with the #4. I know how you feel about Cutler but now with the addition of Ramsey for basically a tryout year this year. Do you feel we will still take Cutler with our 4th pick? I also am very happy to trade Abraham to the Seahawks instead of Atlanta. We get more value as you say with Ramsey + #31 instead of Shaub + #47 + #79. I really feel that we should now shop our #4 in the hopes that someone wants to jump up and take either Young or Cutler. We could get very good value out of the pick and end up with 5 picks in the first two rounds. At this point we wont need to hand out a huge contract and we can finally build from our O-Line. With our later first round picks I believe we will have plenty of options to shore up our O-Line and make it a very solid young unit. Also we can fill a lot more holes this way. If things dont work out with Ramsey then next year we can be players in free agency and maybe even make a play for Quinn. Just curious as how you feel we should go with the #4 now that Ramsey is here and well most likely end up with #31. Youth
Not to play devil's advocate (OK, to play devil's advocate) -- won't that cost a heckuva lot of money? Hasn't it already been proven that the greatest cost/benfit ratio actually exists in the 2nd round? If you don't believe me, google an article from last year called "Curse of the 1st Round Pick." It was conducted by two economics professors who studied every pick from 1988 forward. I'm not saying it's conclusive. It's all about the research, as you said.
I think you pretty much nailed it, YIS, it opens up a ton of options ... we could take any number of players if we stay put at 4, or trade down a bit, add more picks, and ditto {any number of players} I could see us taking Mario Williams if Abe is dealt, or maybe Brick, and don't even discount Vernon Davis who is an absolute phenom ... I'm talkin like the Reggie Bush of TE's .... I could see the Jets drafting any one of those players at 4, AND YES, even Cutler or Leinart because I do not believe Pat Ramsey is the type of QB who automatically precludes you from taking a QB ... he's more of a HTFG {hold the fort guy}, so I would not discount a QB either ... although I would not see the Jets drafting a QB high had they acquired Schuab Or we could trade down a few spots and do the same, any one of those cats with the addition of Hawk and Ngata ... in many ways it frees the Jets up to draft BAP within reason, so long as it's a position of semi need ... and if the Jets trade down a bit closer to the 10-15 area, they might consider a RB as well {LenDale White?} Really the options at this point are plentiful .. things happened so fast and furious today it will really require some thought, and we've hardly been able to catch our breath .. next few days things should start to clear up and the ideas will be bantered about, and I'll be curious to read what everyone has to say
I also hope it can be worked out fairly. But how can you think another team will deal with us fairly if Atlanta pulls the steal of the year. Our FO will not let this happen. Abe can sit the year out if he wants and he'll be a year older, slower, out of pratice, and other players will come across as better value for the buck. The choice lies with Atlanta an Abe.
If he sits out a year he'll be all those things you said and one more thing... he will STILL be under contract with the Jets. Just because you sit out does not void the rights of ownership of his contract that the Jets currently have. So he can sit out a year..lose the $..and be right back where he was. Except the contract offers will be substantially reduced. Thus, he will be traded. We just have to await the resolution.
So the main question is - if he does sit out - I'd imagine that the money will count against the cap but he wouldn't get paid the money right? Oh how I'd love that.
The bottom line is Seattle's hands are tied with Hutch's contract, Atlanta has an offer on the table that ABE has agreed to...Jet's will accept the 2nd and a 3rd because they want to get this over with to prepare for the draft..Deal will be done by the middle of next week.
As many have said, this isn't the old regime. Tangini will wait this thing out for as long as it takes. If they're not completely satisfied, they will not "settle" for whatever trash a team is willing to throw at us. Had Bradway still been in charge, Abe would have been traded for Ramsey straight up (once Wash demanded a second rounder). These guys will not crumble. If Atlanta wants a top notch pass rusher (who is in his prime), they're going to have to pay fair value for him. Otherwise Falcons fans will have to sit back and imagine just what could have been.
