Did anyone catch this last night? They were talking about potential FA's after the 2007 season that they would like to see the Jets pickup. Lucas said Troy Polumalu and Buttle said Terrell Suggs. Picking up either one of these guys would be awesome. Imagine Rhodes and Polumalu in our secondary??? They also discussed potential FA pickups for this year with our remaining 10 million in cap space. Buttle suggested RFA RT Max Starks of the Steelers and Lucas said WR McCardell. Starks would be a nice pickup but would probably be too expensive considering the draft pick and salary. edit: They also did a piece on Bryan Thomas. Thomas praised the hell out of Mangini and said he owes his career and LIFE to him. He said that the difference between him and Edwards is basically lightyears (paraphrasing) and credited Mangini's cerebral approach to a lot of the Jets success last season.
There is no way that either of those guys become free agents, both of those teams know better than to let the get away.
I hear what you're saying but you never know what could happen. Players can force teams hands if they want a change of scenery or a big pay day. With a new coaching staff coming into Pittsburgh and an aging team in Baltimore I think there's at least a chance one of these guys goes.
There's little chance that Suggs would ever hit the open market, but if he did, he'd be perfect for our defense.
A good piece of advice is to never bother listening to anything Greg Buttle or Ray Lucas have to say regarding the New York Jets.
There are many on this board who feel the same about you...  I'm just saying... no need to freak out, I'm sure many say the same about me too.
That's ok, I don't mind. You know I have never cared if people agre w/ me. I present my case and back it up- I can't control the way people think.
If Polumalu struggles with the change to a cover 2 we might actually have a chance. Who knows...maybe he just won't see eye to eye with the Steelers new coach and we can swoop in and grab him. Well that's my pipe dream for the day. Puff...Puff...Pass....
Well they weren't suggesting that these were moves the Jets were planning on making or anything. They were asked there opinions of 2008 potential FA's they'd like to see the Jets pickup.
Dont say that too fast. The Steelers have a pretty good history of letting guys walk instead of paying them.
Doesn't everybody think we should finish the 2007 pre season including the draft, then play the season before worrying about next year's free agents??? What a stupid question. I wonder who is running for President in 2012? I wonder who the Mets opening starter will be in 2008? Who will the Islanders be looking to sign in 2018?
they really need some new personnel on that show. those guys are boobs. i honestly think adam schein says stuff he does not believe because those two guys are around. i am sick and tired of inarticulate and dopey ex-players with no analytical ability filling the screens before and after football games. just because you played the game does not mean you can explain it better than someone who actually went to school.
Never say never. SHOWDOWN LOOMING FOR STEELERS, POLAMALU? by Michael David Smith John Harris of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review raises the question today of whether the Steelers should be worried about Marvin Demoff, the agent who represents safety Troy Polamalu. Harris notes that Polamalu's contract expires after the 2007 season, and that the Steelers would prefer to get a deal done before the season. Harris says the Steelers won't negotiate during the season, so the Sept. 9 opener is the deadline for a deal to get done, or else the Steelers would have to slap the franchise tag on Polamalu in 2008 or risk losing him as an unrestricted free agent. But there doesn't seem to be much news here, other than the fact that, like all players, Polamalu would like to be well compensated and that, like all teams, the Steelers would like to keep one of their top players without breaking the bank. Harris draws a comparison between Polamalu and Rod Woodson, another Demoff client, who held out before signing his rookie contract with the Steelers in 1987. But the Woodson case couldn't be more different. Woodson held out until late October of 1987 for two reasons that have no bearing at all on Polamalu's situation: First, Woodson and Demoff wanted to see how the 1987 NFL players' strike would affect rookie salaries, and they thought they'd be in a better bargaining position once the league and the union had resolved that issue. Second, Woodson was a two-sport athlete who had the option of running track professionally in Europe, which at the time could provide a salary competitive with what the Steelers were offering him. The NFL players aren't about to go on strike, and Polamalu isn't about to start playing a different sport, making any comparison with Woodson's 1987 situation meaningless. Bottom line: A contract extension for Polamalu should be a high priority for the Steelers and is an issue to keep an eye on, but we're still a few months away from the point where anyone needs to worry about a contract stalemate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
