Sorry if this has been posted already but I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw this.. http://myespn.go.com/profile/hashmarks 1. Patriots-Realizing that a lot of the players who played key roles in their three Super Bowl titles were gone, the franchise made some dramatic offseason moves. Matching Tom Brady with an elite group of receivers and adding a Pro Bowl linebacker in Adalius Thomas makes New England the clear favorite. 2. Colts-They lost seven players who started at least one game last season, and you might recall them having the worst run defense in the league. That said, the Colts added the best slot receiver in the draft with Anthony Gonzalez. And Joseph Addai is poised to become one of the best running backs in the league. 3. Chargers-This is probably the most talented roster, but the Chargers are obviously going through a big transition. I'm a little worried about those young inside linebackers, but the guys on the edge can make up for a lot of deficiencies. 4. Saints-There are still people who think 2006 was simply one of those magical seasons, but this offense is way too talented to be a fluke. It's not even a Top 20 defense in my mind, but Gary Gibbs has done an excellent job of patching everything together. 5. Eagles- I may be placing way too much faith in the NFC, but I can't help but think that the combination of a healthy Donovan McNabb and Jevon Kearse is going to make this a Top 5 team. The Eagles have done a nice job addressing some of the problems they had against the run with linebacker Takeo Spikes, defensive end Montae Reagor and defensive tackle Ian Scott. 6. Bears- Yes, I know it's been an awful offseason with the Tank Johnson fiasco and the Lance Briggs holdout situation. I also know that teams can sometimes feed off controversy. If Briggs sits out the first 10 games (I don't think he will), the team will find a way to replace him. 7. Ravens- The loss of Thomas will hurt, but this is still the best overall defense in football. The addition of Willis McGahee makes this a much more dangerous offense. And believe it or not, the team finally has a receiver who can stretch the field. 8. Jets-OK, here's where I'm going to lose a lot of you guys, but bear with me. This team made it to the playoffs last season with a rookie head coach and some pretty lackluster rankings on offense and defense. I think the addition of running back Thomas Jones will have the Jets looking at an 11-win season. 9. Seahawks- Yes, I've been talking up the 49ers for months now, but the Seahawks have one more run left. They should be much healthier this season at key positions and defensive end Patrick Kerney will be a nice addition. 10. Panthers- I thought the Panthers may have come up with three starters in the draft, and way too many people are counting out Jake Delhomme. Just look at what this team has done coming off poor seasons in the past.
woo-hoo sign him up on the Mangini express! He is right though , although he forgets that our D is still unknown , at the moment , and before anyone jumps on me , yes they made improvements last season end.
Thats pretty fair. The combination of a year experience of the system, a 1,200 yard back and keeping virutally every starter will make the jets a good team.
Now whether or not we will win the Superbowl is one thing, but you look at his track record and you see one thing: As long as we have a HEALTHY Chad Pennington we are always going to be in the playoff picture.
Schedule or not, the Jets are just plain better than the Seahawks or Panthers right now - I don't care what anyone says. Very accurate list except I would put the Colts over the Patriots.
Actually, RobA's sig tells you that he's predicting a 12-4 season, which strikes me as wildly optimistic, but at least not quite as much as you thought! The biggest problem for the Jets related to this list is that I don't think that they are remotely in the class of the Patriots, Colts, or Chargers (and I would put them behind the Ravens as well). This means in all likelihood no home playoff game and thus an early exit. When you also note that only one team since 1980 has made the Super Bowl with 6 losses (the 1988 49ers, who also had a playoff bye and a home playoff game), Jets fans better hope that he's right about the 11 win season.
I think if I remember rightly RobA had us with a winning record last year as well , now who here can say that? Not me for one. Have to agree there
im afraid you have nailed it my friend. hopefully by the time we peak under mangini maybe 08 maybe09 there wont be 3 stud teams in the afc
I think its safe to say SD, NE and Indy are the three best teams in the AFC and NFL. Then you figure the next three teams in the afc would be baltimore, jets and denver.
Before you get too excited these are the same guys that picked the Jets not to win more then 5 games last year...
You do find that nearly every superbowl run in , theres always a surprise team that goes further than most people expect . I wouldn't put us in that category just yet , but last year was a step further. Maybe we can be the surprise package next season , although the 'experts' won't say its a surprise , fans will.
Hahaha...im a huge Jets fans, but 11-5 is pretty crazy after looking at their schedule. I would be more then happy with 10-6.
My thoughts exactly. It's like no one can ever peg us correctly, so they tend to exaggerate how good or how bad we really are during the offseason.
