In Revis we got a playmaking corner who could turn out to be a shutdown corner and he plays the run well. = Major need filled In Harris we get a 1st round talent for great value, plays the run very well, can build the 3-4 around, and could definetly replace Barton full time or Vilma next year if Jonathan does not adjust to the 3-4 in 2007. = Major need filled Bender and Stuckey IMO will begin to contribute during the season, Stuckey as PR and 4th or 5th WR, and Bender may be the sarting RT by seasons end. Sounds like a pretty good draft to me. Could we have gotten more prospects? Yes, but would the have been of the same quality? Highly doubt it. If all 4 guys are starting or in Stuckey's case contributing by 2008 when our real run begins We should all be very happy and I belive that is whats going to happen. And Lets not forget about TJ. As far as the OL goes, I honestly believe the CS likes some of the young depth we have in Blanton, Goddard, McChesney, and A Jones. With Tony Wise coaching these guys up we could be in for an upgrade from within. Clarke with coaching and health I believe may be an immediate upgrade over Kendall's run blocking. Not to mention there will still be camp cuts and FA out there to help solidify a unit that could use and upgrade but is not nessicarily in dire need of one. Also as shown in other posts most good OLs are a mix of high picks, low picks and undrafted guys. You can not have all high picks on the OL because their salaries will kill the cap. It's about working as a unit and another year in the system with or without Kendall will be a huge plus. Also Brick and Mangold have gone through their first seasons and only stand to get better.
Seriously - The FO has to balance need against available talent and make trade offs as they go. If Revis and Harris play well then I have no problem with this years draft.
H'mm interesting so what are U going to say in Jan when we will be 0-39 or over 14,000 days from winning a championship?
We're not in January yet Champ. Let's let the Jets blow the season before we start asking the question.
EEEEEEWWWWWW... MMMMM donuts... I love this post!!! Some serious dedication here people... watch and learn... it's all Implied
Actually the question was for all who it appears have no want to improve the team whatsoever. They seem to be quite satisfied with us having the same sought of players we have had for the last 38 years that most NYJ fans thought were superior & lo & behold turned up losers again year after year right now up to 38 & counting. It is really difficult to understand why they rather continue to employ players like a Clement or Baker who 31 teams pass on then having gone out & found a suitable upgrade for him. On another note I rather be ahead of the curve rather then behind
Most of the guys he mentioned just got here and have absolutely nothing to do with the past 38 years. A lot of them have only been alive for a bit more than half of that time, in fact.
Actually what I was saying we have a shot at ending your favorite 0-38 streak of faliure this year, but we not truly start to become real contenders until '08 and the four players we drafted this year and maybe some of the young OL we have on the roster now will contribute and make the NYJ true contenders in '08-'09. Which would make this years draft a pretty successful one if 3 guys are high quality starters and Stuckey is the PR and 3rd-5th WR. The NYJ are still somewhat rebuilding the roster to fit the CS schemes, and getting young players prepared for their real run at the SB in '08,'09','10. So if the team gets better during the year and gets closer to making itself a true contender in the coming years I would not, unlike you, call the '07 season, the NYJ, and all the players on the team faliures.
Exactly, and at what price tag? They really needed to get that great TE,NT,and RT......I guess they grow on tree's in Texas.
The last player Champ admitted to wanting was Vernon Davis, which I find ironic considering he spent most of his rookie year injured, and frankly did not have the successful rookie season Brick did.
It was only a matter of time before you starting trolling another thread, dropping your nonsensical turds which add nothing to what's being discussed. Thanks again for another meaningless contribution.
Bottomline is that this draft was LOADED with Guards. The Jets knew Kendall wasa problem... There is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for this offensive line to have to take a step back this year... If the OL gets eaten up, D'Brick gets swarmed and Chad and TJ get smacked behind the line continually, then Mangini and Co. have no where to look but in the mirror..... If Chad gets hit and has a major injury attributed to poor line play he should sue. Mangini is supposed to come from the coaching carousel that coaches up 4th round CB's... So, they really put their balls on the line here - If Revis isn't a top CB in this league and they spent that money and picks and misjudged his talent while forgoing the OL talent, there should be hell to pay and CP and TJ will feel it. There was an opportunity here to build a real good OL for years to come - When you have a solid OL, everything else is gravy.... These moves smell of Bradway to me....
This is a very good post. Something just doesn't seem to add up considering all the things you've highlighted. We know that Mangini and Tanenbaum are smart football guys, so what gives? Was CB REALLY that big of a hole for us? I thought Dyson and Barrett were a pretty good duo, not top notch, but very servicable and nothing to be too worried about. Mangini SHOULD be able to coach Miller up to play nickle back. What is the plan for the offensive line? Mangini always talks about having a plan, so they MUST have something in mind. Was there someone second string last season that they saw moving into a starting role? Did some of our under performing linemen show promise to be much better this year? I would love the opportunity to ask "Tangini" why they did what they did all things considered. My guess is that they're just trying to build a foundation of talented young players on both sides of the ball who fit their core qualities rather than focus on one specific area.
As stated before, if anybody wants to complain about the refusal of the franchise to put an emphasis on O-linemen in the draft over the years(aside from the 06 draft) I'll be glad to echoe those thoughts. However...there are a few things people are ignoring in terms of their complaints w/ this past draft, and not taking an OL early. 1. First and foremost, we are still a rebuilding team w/ holes all over the roster. It is important to emphasize value over need in order to fill depth. This regime puts as much emphasis on Character and finding someone who fits the mental traits they are looking for, as they do in actual playing ability. On their board, Revis was a fit on both fronts. Again, this is about building depth w/ elite talent and quality character...not about targetting specific need. Not to mention Revis fills a HUGE need. 2. We just spent 2 first rounders on the OL, which means we have some cap space currently being occupied on that area. It is not the most fiscal thing to add another early round pick, and having so much space, placed at one area of the team. The OL WILL be addressed in the future...but for now, we are still rebuilding and trying to fill other needs..creating a quality young core all over the field
Chad was never injured because of the O-line. He got hurt in 2003 because he fell on on his hand in pre-season, got hurt in 2004 running through the secondary at Buffalo because he didn't slide when he already had a first down. You can say 2005 was a sack, but he was already hurt when that happened.
Not only were the CB's on the team serviceable when healthy - You would think they could find a gem in the 3rd or 4th round to add to that core - Hey, Maybe 2 CB's???? they could have gotten a CB AND a Guard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grubbs or Blalock Plus a late 2nd round CB..... I'd expect coaches with their backround to get VALUE at CB later and NOT have to pull off moves like this... Again, it smells of Bradway. Sheesh if it were me and we were in the trading up mood, I wouldn't mind getting Grubbs AND Blalock - and I didn't even know what they knew about Kendall at the time..... No excuse for this OL to be bad this year with how the talent laid out for them..... And the fact that teams paid so much for Guards in the FA market showed you that they were way undervalued and BARGAINS in this draft.... Easy no brainer picks..... And of course some of us weren't sold on D'Brick last year saying he was undersdized and too expensive where he was picked... That guy better step up as well.....
