Who do you think is Overrated and Underrated this year? After doing some mock drafts, there are some thinks i notices. 1. Reggie Bush is going in the 1st round most of the time. I think a 1st rounder for a backup is way to high. 2. Antonio Gates most of the time goes in the 4th round. He?s the best TE, but you can get a guy like Jason Witten in the 8th-9th round, so i think a 4th for a TE is a reach. 3. The old Guys. Guys like Edgerrin James, Jamal Lewis, Ahman Green and some others should get more love imo. There are often guys who share carries picked befor the solid seasond workhorse backs.
I gotta tell you German, I disagree with you on all three points. 1. Reggie Bush is not a back-up. Look at his stats from last year. The Saints use him essentially as a WR. In a points-per-reception league, he is money in the bank. 2. Gates is the best TE every year. There are very few players you can say with confidence will be the best at their position. Only Peyton and LT also qualify. Yes, TEs are fairly deep this year but the parity exists only beneath Gates. Look at last year's stats and you'll see - Gates is heads and tails above the rest. He's like having a free extra WR. 3. I generally can not stand taking washed up veterans in fantasy. They drive you crazy. I'd much rather take a young guy who can step in and surprise. That being said, I would definitely take Edge or Jamal Lewis at the right time but I'd rather have Marshawn Lynch or Cedric Benson this year. And Ahman Green is a guy I would not touch at any point in the draft. Not only is he completely over the hill but he's on Houston.
Anyways, to get into the topic of this thread, here are my overrated and underrated players (based on mock drafts I've seen): Overrated: 1. Ahman Green (see my last post) 2. Donovan McNabb (I'm just not feeling the love for him this year) 3. Marvin Harrison (he's great but, considering his age, there's a question whether he's a top 5 fantasy WR anymore) 4. Brandon Jacobs (he's an injury risk and he'll be behind a bad line) 5. Andre Johnson and Braylon Edwards (two very talented WRs on two very bad teams) 6. Any Patriots WR (I'm going by history here. No Patriots WR has ever been good in fantasy. But they've never had someone like Moss. I still see them spreading the ball around a lot. I would take Moss after Coles and Plaxico but before Calvin Johnson and Hines Ward. Usually, he goes a lot higher) Underrated: 1. Roy Williams (with Calvin in town, he's getting less love but he's still the man) 2. Anquan Boldin (somehow always at the bottom of the first tier of WRs but he could be a 3rd or 4th round steal) 3. Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler (you can get them very late and I like them both a lot this year) 4. Michael Vick (you heard it here first - you can grab this guy really late and, if he plays, he'll give you 1000 yards rushing) 5. Adrian Peterson (he'll win the job by mid-season) 6. Jerius Norwood (he'll be the man in Atl this year but he may not be underrated anymore - people know about him) 7. Cadillac Williams (understandably, there is no love for him this year but he could be a 4th or 5th round steal) 8. Terry Glenn ("she" gets no love but look at his numbers from last year)
Reggie had about 1300 total yards and 7 TDs last year. And i don?t expect him to improve that numbers that much. To me, that sounds like a mid 2nd rounder, not a mid 1st rounder. In a league where Catches count maybe a late 1st. And Gates is good, but you should get another TE that should come up with 200 yards lessn, and 3 TDs less about 4-5 rounds later. And the old guys should get the complete load of carries (something many young RBs don?t) and should be a solid 2nd RB imo.
Under Rated Rudi Johnson - He's consistently being taken in the 9-12 range. Yet he's consistently put up 1200 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns. Andre Johnson - Going in the fifth round in many drafts. The guy is simply a catch machine (a beast in PPR). The change of QB and the team having a RB this season should help him. Jerius Norwood - Being looked at after the 6th round. The guy will be the main man in ATL, a team that has been at the top in yards rushing for for several years now (I know, I know, Vick helps, but their RBs do get alot of yards) Hines Ward - He had a down year, so what? Just two seasons ago he was considered a low-end #1 reciever, and considering the Steelers will be going to a pass-happy offense, he may be able to reclaim that hype. Reggie Brown - McNabb and Stallworth clicked last season, and I'm expectign the same to happen with Brown. Jamal Lewis - 5th/6th round for a guy who will be carrying the whole load. I'll take it. Plus, looking back at his numbers for last season, they weren't all that bad. He will be a GREAT #3 RB, filling in on byes or depending on matchups. And if you have a stud #1 RB, I wouldn't mind taking 3 recievers then having Lewis as my #2 later on in the draft. Donald Driver - as usual. The guy gets his catches and his yards year after year, yet he's still looked at as a low-end #2 WR in most mocks. Over Rated Antonio Gates - Sure, he's far and away the best TE in the game. But he's been going in the 3rd fuckin round in most drafts. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather take my second RB or a top flight reciever than a TE. Willie Parker - He had a good year, I'll give him that, but I don't expect him to repeat it. Especially with the spread offense they are planning on in Pitt. Edge - I don't know if he is really "over rated" but I just don't think he will do well this season. He is no longer the back he was in Indy, and he's definately not on the same caliber team. Arizona is all about the recievers. I'm sure there are a bunch more, I just can't think of them right now. (hung over/tired/don't want to be at work)
Hah Ive picked him up third round last year, and had him 2 years ago as well, and plan on picking him again this year.
I would not draft him this year. I don't trust him. He's had 361, 337, and 341 carries the past three years. His rush average was only 3.8 in 2006. His longest run was 22 yards. It appears Johnson has played his best football. This is why I picked up Kenny Irons. Now granted that is in a dynasty league, but I wouldn't be shocked if Johnson and Irons finish the season with a similar number of carries.
Oh ofcourse I expect his carries to go down, but I expect him to pick up his rushing average just a bit. I didn't expect to pick him up early like I have the past few years though, I just believe he's a solid back that should produce. I'm hoping he's around 4th or 5th which is doubtful. If you do have any suggestions for backs this year it would be greatly appreciated because this year i'm a bit confused on who's gonna be solid.
The holdovers from my dynasty team are Larry Johnson, Travis Henry, Jerious Norwood, Ron Dayne, and Michael Turner. I picked up Kenny Irons in our rookie/free agent draft. Dayne's the one most likely to be cut when it becomes time to set my Week 1 lineup (I have no team D or K on my roster at this time). I believe the rest of my guys have value. In addition to them, these are guys I would draft- Joseph Addai Marion Barber III Ladell Betts Reggie Bush Frank Gore Travis Henry Kenny Irons Brandon Jackson Steven Jackson Larry Johnson Thomas Jones Maurice Jones-Drew Laurence Maroney Willis McGahee Vernand Morency Jerious Norwood Willie Parker Adrian Peterson (Vikings) Clinton Portis Chester Taylor Fred Taylor LaDainian Tomlinson Michael Turner Brian Westbrook Cadillac Williams You'll see some stars like Shaun Alexander and Jamal Lewis not listed. I would not draft them unless they fell far. Alexander has played his best football. I say let someone else draft him in the first four rounds. Some of the players listed above will get injured and miss significant periods of time and others will be busts. It happens every year. That's why you should draft 5 RBs (so long as your league has no cap on the number of RBs you can have on your roster). One or both of the Green Bay RBs I listed (B. Jackson and Morency) will not exceed 500 yards rushing, but I would be willing to gamble that I pick the good one in a middle round.
Ya I figured Jamal was done awhile ago, and I believe that Parker won't be that great of a pick this year unless he fails pretty far. Wow I feel kind of idiotic but I don't believe I've heard of B.Jackson (I just looked him up, and I believe I'd rather have him over Morency) But thank you for putting this together for me.
I initially did not include Parker. I snuck him in right before I hit "submit reply." I think we might see one more 1200+ yard rushing season from him. I betcha he's going to live up to his "Fast Willie" moniker and be a shooting star type of guy in that he'll be out of the league 5 years from now. We'll look back and remember him from Super Bowl 40 and for having 3 years where he played at a high level. His downfall will be loss of speed and fumbling. I envision him fumbling enough this season that's it's going to really bother the new head coach and we may see Pittsburgh draft a RB early in 2008.
Last year? Nah I was in either a 8 or a 10 I don't remember. I was so suprised he was still there. In the 12 team league I was in though I picked him up mid 2nd.
Guys I would add to this list: Marshawn Lynch - the only immediate-impact rookie this year Deuce McAllister - just look at the numbers DeAngelo Williams - break-out candidate Cedric Benson - why no love for the mediocre player in the great situation? Guys I would take off this list: Kenny Irons - he won't do anything this year Vernand Morency - I'd only take him to handcuff Brandon Jackson Jerious Norwood - I'm not touching any Atlanta players this year Fred Taylor - a potentially good late-round grab but, if you're gonna include him, you gotta include Shaun Alexander and Jamal Lewis
norwood is the only player i?m targeting this year. This guy has top 10 FF-Player potential, he could be the next Frank Gore. I?m going for him in the 5th round.
Atlanta is just too much of a mess right now. I think Marshawn Lynch and Brandon Jackson are this year's Frank Gore candidates.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Rudi was a consensus first round choice last season. RARELY, and I mean RARELY would he slip into the second. He will be a first round choice again this year in 90% of drafts. The guy i sjust straight up consistent. His numbers may drop a bit, but they will still be excellent - his situation is just too perfect for him not to put up good numbers. God I miss my team from two years ago (Alexander in the 1st round and Rudi in the 2nd)
