That means they like how brad smith looks. Which means 1 extra spot for another position

Yeah, when they moved Smith to QB it was kind of obvious they didn't like the looks of somebody and your emergency QB isn't a real factor unless your 1 and 2 go down for an extended period and at the same time. Then you have real trouble. Like we did in '05.

Smith as #3 would be fine for them. I just hope they arent as obvious on the third down brad smith plays this year.

But don't the rules state that if the #3 QB enters the game before the 4th quarter, the #1 and #2 QBs can't come back in? That would pretty much leave Smith on the sidelines until the 4th quarter if he were the #3. Unless the rules allow the #3 QB to enter at a different position (i.e. WR) but I doubt that. It actually sounds better to have Smith as the #2 QB so that he can still come in and out of the game, and have Clemens as the #3, where Clemens would come in if Chad got hurt. In the event that both Chad and Kellen get injured, we'd pretty much be screwed for that game though. Hope Ben Graham knows how to pass.

    Is that really the rule?

Stuckey can play QB in case of emergency, so can one of our FB's - I think it's Tutt? Let's hope we never have to see them play QB though.

When a 2nd year WR beats you out for the third string QB job, it's time to reevaluate things.

Yeah, I remember back in '99 when Vinny went down, Tom Tupa was the #2 QB and Rick Mirer was the #3, so they used Tupa for the second and third quarters before bringing in Mirer for the 4th, or else Tupa would not have been able to re-enter the game. Still find it hilarious that Tupa outplayed Mirer in that game.

I believe that is only true for a QB that is named as the games "emergency QB". Smith would not get that designation, since he'll be activated for every game. They might do that with Clemens, but listing Smith as a QB would open up a protected roster spot for another player who might or might not be on the active list for a given game. They could also choose to make all 3 QB's activated.

Yeah, they would list Clemens as the 3rd QB weekly, even though he is the "backup" on the depth chart.
