Hi, I hope everyone is doing well. I've read some other messages boards and news papers, and it's not that much of a problem on this board, but I just wanted to share something. Now let me start off by saying that I am a big Kellen Clemens fan, I think he could be a very solid player, and I'm usually a pretty optimistic girl when it comes to the Jets(just kidding, I'm actually a guy) but Friday night's game is no indication of whether or not KC can be a franchise qb, because it was pre-season! I think he could be our guy one day, and I was definitely encouraged by some of the stuff I saw. Hey, Kerry Rhodes had a shi**y game, does that mean he sucks?? No, not at all. Before we started crowning KC, (as Denny Green would say) let's see more of what this guy's got. I was a fan of drafting him, and I'm happy he's done well as of late(the scrimmage, and the Falcons game) But Rick Mirer also ripped up the pre-season. Who remembers how that turned out?? I do. I'm hoping for the best, but at the same time, I would like to see how he does in a real game. All the best.
I could be wrong, but I think Rick Mirer played in only one preseason game with the Jets (vs the Vikings). That was the last preseason game, which is always the week of the preseason that teams play their most vanilla football and just look to not get injuries. Mirer in a meaningless game wasn't going to fool me for I saw enough of him at Notre Dame, Seattle, and Chicago to know he couldn't play. Clemens is progressing nicely. He didn't do much last year, which was expected. We see it often. The second year in the NFL the QB starts to get it. Clemens might have developed to the point where if he needs to play in a meaningful spot this season, the Jets may be okay.
"Well it is better then him having a bad game." No shi* man, I'm just saying that us fans shouldn't get carried away with his performance. I know that when Chad has an off game this year the "bring in Kellen" threads are gonna begin to pop up.
Thanks for some perspective. Sometimes some of us are WAY to fast to draw major conclusions from WAY too little data/evidence.
Good point about him progressing nicely. That's just what I was trying to say. He's no franchise qb yet, but he could be on his way.
I think Rick Mirer got traded to us from Green Bay late in the preseason, and definitely did not tear up the preseason. You may be thinking of Browning Nagle or Glenn Foley.
Maybe nyjunc can confirm or deny it, but I believe Mirer played in the 4th preseason game in 1999 and threw 3 TDs against the Vikings.
Those guys too, but I remember him having a good pre-season game against the Vikings, and thinking maybe this guy just needed time to develop. I was actually like 14 at the time(this was the '99 season) and didn't really understand the game as well as I do now, so who the hell knows, but I think I made my point about not getting carried away.
I don't remember a whole lot about that game (except I think Chrebet got injured in it). I remember thinking that he was terrible and wasn't sure why we made the trade.
yeah, that may be it. . My memories of the games from when I was younger are always different than the way it actually was
I think it's going to come down to whether Clemens can handle the pressure of being the starting QB because he does have all the tools. But there is no way of knowing whether he can handle the pressure until he actually starts.
To me "preseason" is a big issue here, as it should be. But to me, part of the issue is just about "quantity of evidence". Didn't Browning Nagle pass for 500 yards or some crazy shit in his first REGULAR season game? We lost but I remember thinking, "yeah, but we got our QB for the next decade". And we all know how that worked out. Jumping to conclusions on insufficient evidence--good or bad--leads to erroneous conclusions. If we make personnel decisions based on those conclusions we've got problems...
He was terrible. I couldn't believe it when the Bears traded for him. At the time I thought that was a ridiculous trade. They gave the Seahawks a 1st round pick, I believe the one that Seattle used to draft Walter Jones. Mirer lasted one year in Chicago before sitting on the Green Bay bench all year in 1998. Jones, of course, will be a Hall of Famer.
As a side note, he throws the ball pretty hard. I'm not used to seeing that with Chad, lol. Also, doesn't Chansi Stuckey look A LOT like Santana Moss?
I looked it up...I was right PRO FOOTBALL; Chrebet to Miss 6 Weeks With A Broken Foot By GERALD ESKENAZI It was supposed to be a critical look at a backup quarterback, but tonight's final preseason game turned out to be costly for the Jets. Wayne Chrebet, one of the top receivers in the National Football League, was lost for six weeks when he broke his left foot during the Jets' 38-17 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Chrebet was injured when he simply tried to cut on a pass route on the artificial turf. The grass surface had been replaced, and Chrebet, who has not missed a regular-season game in four years, limped to the sideline and was taken to the locker room, where his parents met him.
its gonna come up regardless. alot jets fan dont view chad as there franchise qb if he is playing poor then the threads deserve to be made. chad stength is his smartness and accuracy. 16 ints is unacceptable.
