Now I've posts a lot of things and people come in and say this is not madden this can't happen and etc. but now I've developed one scenerio. The scenerio is if we get atlanta's 15th pick

Now we go to the fa and sign the ex patriot tackle Ashworth. With him we won't need to pick up a o line except center in the first two rounds

    Scenerio 1

We trade down to the 9th pick and pick up a 40th pick from the lions
    - We draft Vernon Davis at 9

-The 15th pick we draft Jimmy williams

-At 35 we hope and pray that no team grabs mangold and that we get him

-At 40 we grab manny lawson. This is a steal if we are able to get him
6'6 241 4.43 can play both outside LB and DE
    - In the third round we look to get Thomas Howard. 6'3 240 4.42 LB

Now some of you guys might say what the hell is this guy is talking about he wants Two LB a TE and a Corner. This makes no sense we ned to draft our needs. Our main need is a RT, C, NT.

We can sign Ashworth play him at RT and draft mangold. I see us preparing for the future. Our Defense is the key. The game is changing now. Its more about time possession. My philosophy is a great defense requires fast line backers, smart corners and big lineman. The offense we will have here can put up enough points for us to win the game. Our defense will be even better. Jimmy williams would be a shutdown corner. Vernon Davis will be a go too TE and Lawson Vilma and Howard and Barton will be the foundation of this great defense.

nor should it. There's one maybe two TE's in the NFL who you'd say were worth the 9th pick in retrospect. What are the odds this kid becomes that guy. Not to mention its all based on combine numbers.

its not all based on the combine... he was considered a top-20 pick before it, the combine just boosted his position up

And besides the INSANITY of a combine TIGHT END going at 9, there is NO WAY IN HELL that at pick #35 Mangold is going to be there...

Davis played one full year at TE, he played H-back prior to that, lining up at tight end, fullback and wide receiver...IMO I dont think his career at TE should be mentioned in the same conversations as the COLLEGE careers of Winslow or Gonzalez

I think he is a top 20 pick, not a top 10 pick. As I said name the TE's in the NFL that you would think were good picks if they went at 9. Gates and Gonzo, period. And by the way, in part he was considered a top 20 pick pre-combine because nfl people knew he was a workout warrior.

There is no way that thomas howard is gonna last until the 3rd round and like jfhjr71 said mangold wont last until the #35 pick and manny lawson wont last to #40.

He is a top 10 player... TE's are beginning to become very important in the NFL and a top notch pass catching guy who could play WR too would and should be in the top 10.

For my draft I want Hawk/Williams and then Mangold if we get a 1st rounder for Abe. I'm also HUGE on Ryan O'Callaghan and he'd be the monster run mauler we need for our RT.

one of the reasons that i think we may draft Vernon Davis if we trade down is because of Schott... in SD Antonio Gates was the centerpiece of the offense, and i think that with Schott as our O-Cordinator, we need a great TE

With the lack of depth that we have on O-line and D-line I wouldn't be highly suprised to see the Jets set a first day combined wieght record.

    *lol*

We should start a pool. See who comes closest to guessing the total weight.

Im all for the pool. I dont think we have much of a chance of getting mangold at 36, we dont have the 35, i think the steelers will take him.:pats_suck:

I checked this thread out simply because the title was confusing me. Davis seems to be a beast, but the Jets won't take him. We have too many other needs (Tom Ashworth just won't do) to be worried about TE. Besides with the recent fiasco concerning Jolley, I can understand why the FO may shy away from him.
