This is kind of like saying "deciding how good an offense is is a little more complicated than just sorting by how many points they put on the board." I agree that QB rating is a somewhat flawed rating for ranking Qb's. It's Chad's best stat by far given that he does not lead his offenses to all that many points, so I think that it's more than fair to use as a guide to his effectiveness.
I absolutely see what you are talking about, I mean looking at Penningtons stats when being blitzed compared to Brady's, seems to be the measuring stick on this board. Not only did Pennington have a better rating, higher completion percentage, but also a higher YPA, by a noodle arm. It seems rather odd that he can do all this when he is looking at he ground because he has his head ducked. Bottom line, you do not like Pennington and never will no matter what. It seems like you prefer drama, which is what we will have again once Pennington in no longer the qb for the Jets and they try to find a qb that can consistenly win. Well I think completion percentage is Chad's best stat. Look at the guys ahead of him. Huard is 2nd in the league last year, he wasn't the 2nd best QB in the league last year. McNabb and Romo are 4th and 5th and they only played around half a season. Brunell isn't good. And more than that, I don't think stats in general tell the whole story. A lot of it depends on the players around him. Brady had better stats in 2004 and 2005 than last year. I don't think he was a better player those years, he just didn't have any receivers last year. McNabb had far and away his best season in 2004 with TO. I think he was still an elite QB before then, and I said it at the time, but he had no receivers.
Chad has always had receivers so I'm not sure what the point is. Look at the Jets offenses under Chad and where they ranked in the league. That's the accurate assessment of him as a QB, because good QB's don't consistently lead their teams to middle of the pack offensive showngs over the course of a season. The Jets offense has never been ranked higher than 15th with Chad at the controls. This despite having a probable hall of fame tailback and an offensive line that generally was in the top of the league if not necessarily top 10 all the time. This despite having access to decent or better receivers for most of his career. The problem with the Jets offense and its primary limitation is Chad Pennington. Just look at the numbers. Even if you argue that the Jets limited game plans have played a major role in their offensive finishes it's hard not to point at Chad as the reason the game plan has been so limited.
So Chad was better then Brady, BOTH Mannings, Palmer, Bulger, Rivers, McNair, Young, Garcia, Romo, Hasslebeck, Brees, Vick & McNabb? DUDE your out of your frickin mind. NONE of those teams would swap their QB's for that has been noodle armed QB named "pee wee" Pennington.

Huh? He said top 10. He doesn't have to be better than all those guys. And FWIW, at this point in their careers, and for this season, I'd take Chad over Eli, Young, Garcia, and obviously Vick without any hesitation. And Br4dw4y5ux, I'm not even arguing so much that Chad deserves to be a lot higher than 12. I think he's borderline top 10, but I wouldn't have a huge problem if someone rated him #9, nor would I have a huge problem if someone rated him #15. I was just arguing the idea of looking at one stat and that one stat determining his ranking.
I understand where you think he is and you're entitled to your opinion. Honestly I think he's middle of the pack and virtually no use to a rebuilding team unless the aim is to squeeze a win or two more out of each season without ever having a chance to actually win it all. The disconnect is that people think I'm flaming Chad when I say this. I'm not. There have been plenty of Jim Harbaughs and Jay Fiedlers and Jake Delhommes in NFL history who were perfectly good QB's incapable of winning the big game. Chad's one of those. I want better.
hahahaha....WOW....... no offense, but alot of people like yourself are blowing this "chad has a high quarterback rating" argument way out of proportion. I mean damn, we might as well just say that all those dump off passes for short gains makes him a savior. AT LEAST BRADY IS NOT AFRAID TO TAKE THOSE RISKS AND THROW FOR THE FIRST DOWN! I don't see why most of you don't get this. In order to get those tough wins, your quarterback has to step up and make plays. A huge asset to a quarterback is how quickly he can get the ball to the receivers. Not to mention his mobility as well. You say that Chad's completion percentage and all those garbage stats make him better than Brady in those situations?! I will tell you one thing.........Whether or not Brady gets rushed, he will always go for the first down or make those tight throws. Chad on the other hand, does not have that much CONFIDENCE in his arm and theirfore avoids making those tight throws or big game changing passes. Look, I also want to say that I AM a Chad supporter. BUT.......................I will also drop him without hesitation if I KNOW THAT HE IS HOLDING THIS OFFENSE BACK!!! Look, even though I admit that the Line is not so good this year, Chad needs to take some of the responsibility too and be able to make some plays with either his feet or his arm. And so far all that we have seen are those "PRECISION TIMED PASSES" that go for 4-5 yards a pop. I would love to see the guy get some big games this year so let's just hope for the best and if he continues to pull the same shit.....we've always got a solid backup and a future starter waiting to be called upon.
Considering the dismal team performances without Chad the last several years, it seems that he is the reason the Jets succeed. Is he alone good enough to take us to the SB, probably not. But to continue to rag a guy that makes a 3-13 team without him a playoff team is pretty bizarre.
Better than, Brees, Rivers,Romo,Garcia,Eli,McNair (AYFKM?????),VICK AGAIN(AYFKM?????), and Hasselbeck easily..... And I wouldnt trade him straight up for McDrabb either. All Pennington has done, when Healthy, EVERY YEAR that he has been, is MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. NO one on your list, except Manning, Brady and McNabb can claim that. Period. P.Manning, and McNabb both have had stability by being in the same offense over time (Particularly Manning who has the benefit of Tom Moore, the offensive equivlent of Bill Belichik...) And going further, when it was for all the marbles, Pennington ahs already beaten Manning, and Brees twice head to head.
So you are basically talking about yards per attempt? Isnt' that how you determine who is throwing down field and completing them. Chad's is better, period. If you don't like it too bad. Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one and they all stink, these are just the stats and they prove your opinion wrong. Find something else to complain about Chad that you can back up with some facts instead of just pure opinion based on your bias. As far as I am concerned this point is done. Chad is as good or better than Brady when he is getting blitzed. Which he should be because the blitz is understanding where to go with the ball from the presnap read, not standing back in the pocket trying to find a wide open reciever.
In 04 Quincy Carter had a higher winning % than Chad and if we go 1 & 3 with Quincy instead of 2 & 1 we don't make the playoffs with Chad running a stacked team.
It would be insane to throw in Clemens against the Ravens. All this QB controversy is nothing, it was the preseason, give Pennington a break.
no. hes not a young qb anymore. im sick and tired of people being asked to give him a break like hes some young player were developing. pennington is what he is. and obviously more people are willing to accept that. and even discussing a different qb makes us bias and stupid
I am not saying that chad is going to get us into the playoffs but we do not have any other options as of now. You guys act like Clemens going and beating some 2nd and 3rd stringers makes him a reliable NFL QB. Clemens is on a lower level right now then chad because chad has proven he can play at this level.
he wont play like crap and if he has a bad game so what who doesnt, if god forbid he gets hurt we got clemens.
