I watched the game again today, i noticed, that Kenyon Coleman played great against the run. He was never controlled by the Pats O-Line, he kept his shoulders free, and was able to stop alot of inside runs for "only" 3-5 yards gain. Many times, when maroney was trying to make a cut Coleman was there to make the tackle and stop maroney before he had a chance to get to the open field! He led the Jets in Takles with 12, 10 solo!

If he could start to be a force in the Passrush and keep up his good play against the Run, we would have one great 34 DE here!

Maybe Coleman was stealing the Pats signals!

Unfortunately I think Ellis is poorly suited for the 3-4. I always liked him, but I think we may need to replace him next year.

I watched most of the first half last night.

KC looks to be our best D lineman as of right now. for the most part Stout against the run, but created little to no pressure on the pass.

The thing I noticed most about our D was a unch of Wiffs on tackles by many players. Chances to hold people to a few yards turning into 7 to 12 yard plays because a LB missed a tackle or took the wrong angle to a receiver.

    Sloppy play at best.

This is accurate and sad as Ellis was drafted to be a 3-4 end. For all the abuse Robertson gets on the nose, Ellis has been just as ineffective.

I've rewatched the game a couple of times and thought K. Coleman played very well. He was very good against the run ( lead team with 12 tackles, 10 solo). He was doubled teamed alot as far as the pass rush with the Pats max protecting. Overall I thought he had a good game.

I would like to see more of Robertson-Pouha-Coleman as a 3-4 trio this week.

coleman couldnt get a pass rush for various reasons. the pats couldve been cheating but also, even if you throw that out the window. the other 2 DL werent getting the job done and none of the other ILB's could create enough pressure to command a block so im sure as soon as coleman bounced off the LG the LT was waiting for him or vice versa.

either way the guy is the best fit for the 3-4 on our line and maybe on our D aside from Harris. Ellis is okay but i think hes trying to penetrate too much and is having his gap flooded with blockers tying up the middle.

we'll see. either way he was worth picking up. if Speedslow Manoldslobbin was still playing the game wouldve been worse.

The scouting report on Coleman was that he is good against the run but was not helpful in pass rush. Looks like thats holding true.

I think Bryan Thomas is the guy this week. Let him come off the LB spot, line up on the line and come strong. He needs to show hes worth is contract

Why don't we just give up the 3-4 experiment. Our lineman our obviously better suited for the 4-3. I mean who can argue that Vilma, Robertson, Ellis would not be better suited for the 4-3. These guys we're all drafted in the first round and are the heart of our defence. It will take years of drafting and free agent signings to replace these players to fit Mangini's defence.

Because it's not an experiment. It is the base defense we will be employing as long as Mangini is the coach, like it or not.

Mangini forcing the 3 -4 is pretty much like Hackett forcing the Lest Coast Offense; without the right personnel – you just end up looking stupid.

Has Robertson had any work in as a 3-4 end? It's kind of absurd to think that just dropping him into a different position with no previous experience and little practice and drilling will suddenly improve the defense.

I would love to see this. I think it'd be an incredibly effective method against the run, but not the best against the pass.

Ellis was a 3-4 DE in college and was drafted by Parcells to play 3-4 DE. He had, barring his probowl season, his best professional season as a rookie in the 3-4.

Ellis is the least of our worries and does not need to be replaced.

Coleman is a stud and was arguably our best offseason pickup.
