You assume he'll refuse to resign. I assume nothing.

I don't assume he will refuse to resign, I think we will not pay him more than he is worht to us which is less than he is worth on the open market to a 4/3 team that puts a premium on the MLB. I just can't see us paying him his 4/3 value when he isn't worth it to us. I think we have a smart GM and HC?

Okay, that's a different spin, and is far more valid than what I thought you were saying. Good point. I just think it depends on the progress he makes within the system.

    Thomas = 6'4" 266
Vilma = 6'1" 230 (which is probably being generous)

That is your answer right there, Vilma is way to small to play the outside in a 3-4. He'll be traded before that ever happens.

please dont compare adalius thomas to anyone sir... He is a freak of nature that could easily be shifted to outside linebacker and get 9 10 sacks in a season....

If you compared him to james farrior or something fine, but no way man...

adalis thomas is not someone to compare someone else too.

He's talking about Bryan Thomas. Adalius is 6'2", 270 to my knowledge.

Agreed, baamf. His work ethic bit. I did enjoy saying, "Huuuuuuuuuugggggh!" during games, though. Wait. Hugh without H is ugh, come to think of it. Hehe.

And also agreed as to the rest (draft value). Here's how I see it. Mangini isn't going to change to a 4-3 at mid-season even if things are going badly. He'll see the 3-4 through for the year for certain. Does he switch gears after next year's draft? Depends on what he does there and whyfore. And you bet he doesn't give Vilma away for a song.

Vilma was very active last game agaisnt the Ravens I know that he'll figure this out. Add a fatty NT to clog the mid and watch JVILLE explode. He's too talented of a player to fail.

I hate to say it since I really think Vilma is a good LB, but I would trad Vilma for Suggs and a first day draft pick. Its looking like David Harris can be something special, and with Suggs coming from the outside it may be better for the Jets. Lewis and Vilma also sounds nice for the ravens and we still dont know how long Lewis has left.

there isn't a chance in hell the ravens give us suggs and a first day draft pick. maybe in fantasy land, but in the real world it would be a straight up trade! even then, why would the ravens want vilma for their defense if he's too small for ours? suggs is a special player in his own right and is a better fit for the 3/4. if anything, the jets would be the one giving a player and a first day pick for suggs. which would never happen anyway..

Well Lewis and Vilma are of similar size... I guess your right about the first day draft pick, I was just undervaluing Suggs. In any case I would still think its a good trade for us. On paper it might seem no good to most fans but I think its whats best. I kinda figured it wouldn't happen but still I think the Jets need Suggs.

I thought about your Post and considered that intellect and natural athletic ability equal about squat when you get swallowed up by guards and become ineffective to stopping the run or rushing the quarter back ; or even tied up and not being able to drop back into the second teir to possibly pick something off! I think people's beef with Vilma is not so much him as a player or questioning his abilities and worth on the team but his handcuffed status playing in a 3-4 .

Yes, Vilma was very active in the Ravens game. Active trying to run around blocks, and tackling ball cariers 8 yards down field.

He is too light in the ass to play ILB. He doesn't have the size and he doesn't have a mean streak.

I don't understand this love affair with Vilma. he had one good season, 2004, on a losing team, in a 4-3, protected by D-Rob and Jason Ferguson. In 2005, ferguson went to Dallas, and Vilma started this routine of tackling 6-8 yards deep. then in 2006 we switched to the 3-4, and he has been totally out of place since.

Doesn't have mean streak , would you want to go up against him? Just because he doesn't walk around sneering doesn't make him non-aggressive. He is a tremendously focused player.
What he lacks in size in the 3-4 he makes up for it with speed , unfortunatley the DEs we have coupled with average NTs don't give him the space to do what he does best.
Ellis is really worrying me , he is the one who looks lethargic and slow , he doesn't scare anyone. Coleman I'm still out on. Robertson will step up big time this year and will be the bright spot on D.
At the end of the day we have a 4-3 defense playing 3-4.
