Ellis is in the wrong system, he would be effective again in the 4-3. The void is at the other DT beside Robertson but we have serviceable players. We have plenty of really good LBs as well, they look worse than they are b/c they are playing out of position. We have alot more 4-3 talent, we may not have as much as '04 as guys have aged but we would ahve been better last year and this in the 4-3.

Uh bring in better talent is the answer. As I said before besides Revis, Rhodes & Harris we are totally devoid of talent on the D side of the ball

Brian Thomas is a serviceable backup.

Jv is in the wrong defense. Other than that everybody else has to go other than the three you mentioned.

Kill me for writing this this if you want but Parcell's said it best. You draft/sign talent you need for the system and then you adjust the system to the talent you have.

We clearly have more talent for the 4-3.

4-3 players (Robertson DT, Vilma MLB, Hobson/Barton OLB)

3-4 players (Harris ILB, Coleman, DE, others?)

Mangini will not stop until he has his 3-4 players in his 3-4 defense. On that note Robertson, Vilma, Hobson and Barton should be moved while they still have value.

kenyon coleman, erick hicks, d-rob, pouha all can rotate at 4-3 dt. people talk about how it wouldnt help but i laugh. barton would be able to pass rush better instead engaging OL in open field same with vilma. hobson would be working in less space which would be to his advantage. the only person that is better off inthe 3-4 is probably coleman, and bryan thomas.

it only makes sense. but its not my team.

Our number one tackler right now is David Barrett. Terrorizer or just somebody who is in position to make a lot of tackles?

Vilma's forte is going sideline to sideline sweeping behind a 4 man line. That's what he does. It's what he did at Miami. It's what he'll do at his next address.

It's not what a 3-4 ILB is supposed to do. No fault of Vilma's that he is miscast, that's on the FO and CS.

Ho hum big deal majority were 5 or more yds DF. Hardly any for losses or no gains. As the TV show once on he is one of the "weak links" in our D

Just lucky to be in position to make tackles. I would say at the moment we are without a terrorizer on D

Top 5 in the NFL in tackles since he was drafted. Thoughts?

Barrett is in position to make alot of tackles because opposing QB's are abusing him. If instead he was leading the league in passes defensed, we'd be 3-0.

It's not that Vilma cannot thrive in a 3-4 defense, he is simply misused in Sutton's version of the 3-4 defense.

    A. You cannot even get the name of the TV show right. Sad.

    B. Linebackers in the 4-3, when he led the league in tackles, and/or won defensive rookie of the year, only make that many tackles when the line is a sieve, which ours was. In a 4-3, the linebackers line up 5-10 yards downfield, and are only responsible for plays that happen in the range, so of course the tackles are 5 yards downfield.

    C. You'll notice, if you can actually see the TV, that many of Vilma's tackles are coming at the LOS this season. That's what linebackers do in a 3-4 defense. They'll get less tackles because they're not playing sideline to sideline, but the tackles they do get are more meaningful.

    D. If we had a mountain at NT we wouldn't even be having this discussion.
