I was refering to the trade everybody away part. If Maine and Perez were are only two returning starters (with Pelfrey/Humber as the number 5).
They stood pat for the most part in the off season and @ the deadline, this is what happens, just like 2001.
I don't give a shit about the 2008 Mets. I don't care who the fuck they sign or trade. I'm not getting my hopes up anymore. I'll be like Randy Quaid's character in Major League. Instead of, "Ahh, they'll blow it in the 9th" it'll be "Ahh, they'll blow it in September."
I'll say this - the Mets are due for a couple of wins, and the Phillies are due for a loss. Just win tomorrow guys!
Big time pass on Girardi. It's a shame Acta had to jump at the Nationals job, if he could've waited another year he'd be perfectly positioned to take over the Mets. As it is he only signed a two year deal with them, if the Mets could get a placeholder in here for next season and then bring Acta home in 2009 that would be fantastic.
Pass on Acta, I don't want a placeholder in here ever, never mind next year. And Manny Acta isn't going to excite anyone, especially if we have to wait 2 years.
I don't need a manager to "excite" me I just need one that knows what the hell he is doing. Acta is one of the few that "gets it" and he's already got a history with the Mets.
Overachieving pitching staff equals overrated manager. Girardi is a chump I remember numerous tactical blunders by him against the Mets in 06.
