ok so ive been trying to push this point to get offensive playmakers this draft.. here are some points that i've heard that i dont agree with: 1. some people want to trade up to get leinart but that would cost us 2 first round draft picks which is definitely not worth it.. last year showed that their are teams with EFFICIENT QBs that can be superbowl contenders (eg. steelers, seahawks) and getting a superstar QB doesnt always guarantee success (eg. manning).. not to mention that leinart will never become as good as manning.. so that theory of trading up for leinart should be forgotten.. 2. there are also some people that think we should draft mario williams with our #4 pick.. this would be a luxury pick if he is even there at #4, with talks of NO snatching him at #2.. we are switching to a 3-4 defense so that would negate some of d. william's dominance as a 4-3 DE.. we have too many holes to fill and this years draft is so deep with talent for the first 40 or so picks.. so we need to trade down!! we can get so much for the #4 pick and we need it to fill holes.. we can make it this year with ramsey and pennington.. i believe ramsey should start just to make sure we arent rushing pennington into pushing himself too hard to try to prove he can play.. i just watched the video of ramsey's highlights and i thank chow184 for the link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3ZrWRoaOZk ,.. i think that ramsey will be efficient enough for us to win games.. he has a nice arm and great potential.. he wasnt a first round pick for no reason.. what we have to do is surround him with playmakers.. just like the chargers did with drew brees.. LT and gates made brees into an all-pro.. you will see without these weapons this year in NO that brees is just a decent QB.. not an all-pro.. if we do this, our offense will be very good.. 1. so i suggest trading down from #4 to #9 along with #41 and getting vernon davis with the #9 pick... look at this video..along with his ridiculous combine stats, he looks like a RB after the catch.. hes a TE that can spread the field and make d-coordinators game plan for him, though it probably wont do much good.. http://umterps.collegesports.com/fr...rchive10/100605-vernon-davis-all-american.asx 2. then we should trade both our round 2 picks up to ~#15.. with the #15 pick we should take deangelo williams.. he is the second coming of LT and now hold the record for most 100 yard games in NCAA history.. this video is ok, i couldnt find a better one of just williams, http://www.vidilife.com/index.cfm?f...gramIDCryp=F343E749-58B8-4A1B-9B70-8&action=1 both davis and williams are playmakers and are explosive enough to score each time they get the ball.. the are the second comings of LT and gates.. look at these combine stats.. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/9326200.. d. williams has comparable numbers to DLinemen and LB as a RB!!.. he is gonna be a beast and broke tons of NCAA records at Memphis.. 3. then we should take mangold at #29.. with these three in the 1st round, our offense will be on the way to being dominant for years to come.. these trades would be fair as you can see with the draft chart, http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm now do u guys see my point?? with these three.. even a decent QB like ramsey would be able to make our team competitive
We have to build a strong offensive line. Ramsey crumbles when he faces a lot of pressure from the defense. It won't matter how many "playmakers" we have, if he's not getting protection, the offense will go nowhere.
ok.. that is why we are going to have the offensive line: LT- jones LG- kendall C- mangold RG- moore RT- runyan is that solid enough?? plus, it worked for the chargers.. and who can you name on their mediocre Oline??
We need a franchise QB to develop. This draft will be all about getting a franchise QB, rebuilding the O line, maybe getting a D playmaker, and drafting the O playmakers NEXT year, in the draft. There is a kid named Peterson who is probably a better feature back than any in this year's draft. We will win 4 to 6 games next year, and be in a position to trade up. That, and with a clear cap with a lot of room.... look for 8-8 in 2007, and being a real threat in 2008 and beyond.
It depends on the type of system that Schottenheimer will put in. Kendall will be good for a zone oriented pulling type of line. If it is more man to man power line, Kendall (and likely Moore) will struggle. It worked for the Chargers because Brees' problems weren't the result of him facing pressure. Ramsey has all the tools, he struggles when he faces pressure in the pocket.
sorry man, ive had that happen to me when i typed this whole thing to my schools scholarship office.. and the internet froze.. it took me more than an hour.. when it said the page had expired, i couldnt move for like 5 mins.. i was so pissed.. but i am interested in what you have to say.. so whenever u feel up to it again..
I'm not one of the ones who are clammoring for a QB at this point, so I would really like this draft from an offensive standpoint if it fell this way.
Alright, here's half of what I was typing. The other half was defensive issues, but I'll stick to the O. Grades QB: C+ I'm not sure how Penny will fair this year, we'll have to wait it out. Ramsey doesn't seem like a fitting QB. He is mistake prone. Draft: I say draft Croyle with the 35th overall pick. RB: C I will let Curtis slide a bit because the O-Line was in shambles, but we need a 2nd back pretty soon. I just don't see Houston becoming that man. We'll have to see. Draft: Wait it out, see if theres some around late in the draft. WR: B+ We have a good looking set of receivers with the addition of Dwight. Coles and McCareins will probably be starters again, while Tim and Jericho battle it out for the 3rd slot. Draft: Not priority TE: B This is a good group. Baker and Jolley are guys that do what you need and I see potential out of Doug. Draft: Another one waiting for until near the end. OL D- Being generous here by not saying F, but the line was destroyed by injuries last year and we have holes to fill big time. Center is main priority, but not all we need. Runyan might sign here, which would boost us greatly also. Draft: 29th pick on Mangold. Then see about later on getting a guard.
Leinart is a better prospect than Eli ever was so that entire statement can go out the window. Eli wouldn't have been drafted as high if his brother and father didn't prove they can play. Also Rothlisberger is a stud. The guy never loses and they have three average runningbacks and 1 legit wide receiver on that team and he carried them to the super bowl. Don't fool yourself and say it was the defense or the running game and he's an efficient QB. I don't see your point at all. So you watch a highlight film of Ramsey and now all the bad he has done in the past is gone. Gibbs is a great coach and he basically dumoed the guy for nothing thats how bad he wanted to get rid of him. Then to fix the offense your idea is to draft a TE and a RB in round 1 when we have one Qb who has been okay but his shoulder is torn apart and another thats a proven loser and was so bad old man Mark Brunell beat him out for the job twice. Very questionable approach in my opinion and I doubt Mangini and Tanenbaum follow it. Do I think they trade up...I don't know but with these two picks they won't draft both a TE and RB because that would be moronic especially when you have a chance to stay where you are and get an AJ Hawk or a D'brickashaw Ferguson. And thats no knock on Davis who I really like but a TE should not be the first postion filled when trying to rebuild an offense.
Drafting just offense or a certian position is just stupid. By 2008 most fo the team wont be here and not all Draft picks start right away. Just take the Best Player Available. Who will be here in 2008 that is on the team? So we can take any position. QBennington? in 2007 he will be a 7 mil cap hit or a 9 mil cap hit if we cut him. in 2008 it will cost more to keep him than cut him so it depends on how he plays. That is 50-50 Ramsey has one more yr left and I dont know if he will do well to merit a contract, same as Bollinger. RB Curtis has 2 yrs left in at most. But you dont have to find RB's in the 1st rnd and rookie RB's can start right away. Blalock wont make it to 2008. and Houston probably wont ever be a starter. Askew is a FA after 2006. WR Coles might be here in 2008 but he will cost 7.75mil agianst the cap. Mc Cariens wont be here. Cotchery is FA at the end of 2007. TE Jolley will be a FA after 2006 or 2007. and the rest of our TE roster we have no starters. OT right now we have A. Jones and thats it..... OG B. Moore contract is cuttable... 50-50 Kendall could make it to 2008, but I am not a fan of drafting guards early anyways. C We have noone signed til 2008 DE Ellis will be here, but Kimo's last yr is 2008 and he might be done by then so we might cut him and save 3 mil on the cap. We could use someone to step in as afull time starter in 08. Plus most teams like rotating lineman. We havent really done that since our DE's were above avg. DT Drob? He is the biggest question mark of them all. Pouhla will be in his last yr of contract. LB:Vilma is a definite Barton will be in his last yr of a contract not many players make it to their last yr. Hobson will be a FA at the end of 2007 season and Matt Chatham LOL, noone else is signed til 2008 Not many definites here..... CB no way Barrett makes it to 2008 since he will be a 4.3 mil cap hit miller is the only other guy signed til 2008. remember he didnt start in his 1st yr so we can develop anyone. And who knows if Miller will be a good starter the jury is still out.(I think he will but you have to take the best players regardless of position) S Rhodes will still be here. But Coleman will be a FA at the end of 2007? Who knows if we will sign him agian. As you see we can draft any position. PS where is everyone getting this Det trade they need the picks just like us and who would they be targeting? If its offense Millen will be shot.
vernon davis and deangelo williams have the potential to make our offense top 10 when we draft mangold and sign runyan..
