Fun for Jets fans! Rate the last two years' front office moves in terms of suckiness: 1) Jets trade with the 49ers for Kevan Barlow. 2) Jets sign Andre Dyson. 3) Jets sign Kimo Von Oelhoffen. 4) Jets trade Pete Kendall to Redskins. 5) Jets sign Bryan Thomas to a contract extension. 6) Jets personnel inform NFL officials of Patriots misconduct. 7) Jets trade with the Bears for Thomas Jones. 8) Jets sign Brandon Moore to a contract extension. 9) Jets sign Kenyon Coleman. Personally, I say 5, 6, 4, 1, 3, 8, 2, 7, 9. I like Coleman a lot and I don't entirely fault Jones for his season. How do you guys rank 'em?
1) Jets trade with the 49ers for Kevan Barlow.- What were you expecting here? The Jets wanted a legitimate pounder who could carry the ball and control the clock. That was certainly not a job to entrust to an undersized rookie like Leon Washington. Who else would you have taken? 2) Jets sign Andre Dyson.- This didn't look like a mistake last year, when the guy had 4 picks. Remember, he's playing, more than likely, because Justin Miller is out for the year. 3) Jets sign Kimo Von Oelhoffen.- The contract number was absurd, I'll give you that, but you can't mention this deal and then say "but the Jets should have paid Kendall." Fact of the matter is, Von Oelhoffen was a steady, reliable, defensive lineman in a 3-4 front with a wealth of experience who had played the full 16 for something like 8 years in a row. He was coming off a pretty productive year. Von Oelhoffen's deal is proof positive why you don't pay good money to once great but declining players. 4) Jets trade Pete Kendall to Redskins- This was a steal. The Redskins are pretty ridiculous for making this move. The Jets got a draft pick for a guy who they probably would have cut. The way Kendall has been playing, it looks as if the Jets are going to get a fourth rounder out of the deal. That's not terrible. 5) Jets sign Bryan Thomas to a contract extension.-The pass rush has been abysmal most of the year. The Jets risked making the same mistake that they made with Farrior here. When the Jets switched to the 4-3, Farrior excelled and they let him jump town for Pitt. They replaced him with lesser Sam Cowart. The Jets had a dearth of pass rushers on roster. This is an occasion where Jets fans are unhappy with the result, but when you have a former first round pick who finally shows up and is still relatively young, you spend money. FACT- If we had let Thomas walk, Jets fans would have been screaming bloody murder regarding our ailing pass rush. 6) Jets personnel inform NFL officials of Patriots misconduct.-As opposed to Mangini going out there and playing the Pats every year with the knowledge that they were stealing the signals and cheating? What was he supposed to do, say "hey guys, you played well, but at the end of the day we lost again. I hate to inform you that I've known the Pats have been cheating for years, but I can't do anything about it because, well, that wouldn't be right." 7) Jets trade with the Bears for Thomas Jones.-Well, he'd be dominating, but we traded Hall of Fame guard Pete Kendall. Can't blame him for that. 8) Jets sign Brandon Moore to a contract extension.-He has been much better than last year. The culprits are really Clarke and Clement. I don't know what you're watching. He's 27 years old and his raise was very reasonable. He's locked up another few years. 9) Jets sign Kenyon Coleman.- I suppose we'd have done better with the likes of Von Oelhoffen or Dave Ball or Bobby Hamilton. Clark hasn't bene great, but he was a career backup and he hasn't been a flop either. The linebackers are supposed to make the plays in the 3-4, and if you're listing mistakes, the most obvious one would be a lack of focus on the front office's part in bringing in playmaking linebackers. -X-
No i rate your failures of stupid comebacks , His list is right on da money , except i think coleman is doing a decent job at the end.
Even though I agree with everyone that says he makes threads that suck, what the hell I will bite. 3>1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>8>>>>>>5>>>>>>>>>>>2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>6>9>7
CLEARLY CLEARLY the Thomas $25m extension with the $9m bonus was stupider than all the rest combined. I watched Thomas do his invisible act for 4 1/2 years waiting for Boobway's 2002 original huge deal to run dry. Then they pony up another $25M to him last year. LOL! I did not see Thomas make one major play yesterday against the 'boys, did you? He is always on the field but if he gets to 5 yards within the ball it is a miracle. And since we gave him a $9M bonus last year, it would be cap hell to move him. Well done Tannaboob! The jets SIMPLY have no eye for talent. Anyone who thinks Bryan Thomas would have gotten half that money anywhere else needs to watch some tape.
