This guy has got to be the worst offensive coordinator in the league. He makes some of the dumbest play calls I have ever seen. At this point, the Jets should look to promoting Brian Daboll to offensive coordinator and let him get a head start on things for next year, if that is Mangini's sole intention for him.
We scored 40 points today with a bad OL, an unknown talent at QB, and a patchwork WR unit that at best is full of practice squad talent when Coles was not on the field which was often. Hard to bash Shotty for today's performance all though in principle, I'm not a huge fan.
Don't let a win vs a terrible team fool you, our offensive playcalling has not improved... Take Leon's direct snap, for example... That's the same, predictable play we run with Brad Smith, and Miami ran to the ball, right away.... Had it not been for a great individual play by Leon, that's a loss.... Schott, even in a big win, did not do much in terms of good playcalling
At least some of the creativity came back. Granted it was predicatable creativity (which could be an oxymoron).
I'm not sure what everyone wants to see? We are very limited in what we can do based on talent and a young not very good OL. The shuffle pass was one of the best executed plays I've seen this team execute all year. I think we did two and both worked to perfection.
The funny thing is I agree with you. The not funny thing is that these excuses get thrown out the window when Chad's @ QB....
Chad is another limiting talent, as bad as Clemens has been and he has been bad, he at least doesn't limit the teams ability to attack the sidelines.
Thanks for proving my point.... btw, I don't believe that one bit. As i said It's playcalling w/ Clemens but not w/ Chad
Schottenheimer's playcalling is a disgrace. He runs on first down 85% of the time. The jets gain 2 yards and its 2nd and and long everytime. We should play action more on first down. He is truly his father's son and I'd love to see him get a head coaching position so we aren't stuck with him.
Nobody could have been worse than Cam Cameron. I'm still glad he didn't go to Miami, although I'm not sure I like his game plans at this point. The throw deep once early to back the defense off and then never stretch it again is really starting to annoy me.
Chad limits the play-calling more than Clemens does. That's not saying that Clemens is accurate in the short game, because he is not, but Chad can't throw deep more than once a game without losing something and he can't throw the deep outs at all.
I think the play-calling is directly affected by the talent the Jets have available at the moment. The lack of an offensive line really limits what the Jets can do and so, for the second year in a row, they are using misdirection and many different looks to compensate. Why the Jets have a shitty line for the second year in a row is a mystery but the play-calling is not.
you cant just add plays to the playbook mid season because you changed qbs. Sure you can alter your gameplan but how much do you really expect to be different. I say give him a full year with KC before you give him the boot
And as I mentioned in another thread, the play calling against Miami is very likely directly attributable to Miami being a horrible team. You can just call a simple game and expect to beat them tactically, as opposed to strategically.
