Will a bad season serve to deter top-tier free agents?

An obvious question which may have already been answered. Think back to a few years ago when the Jets brought in some elite talent- Winfield comes to mind. He, as did others, opted to seek out other NFL teams for numerous reasons. From what I can recall, money in some of these deals was pretty even.

We all know that dollar signs are what steers a deal, but with ownership that is always clutching its purse and inconsistent gameplay from one year to the next, coupled with a coaching staff that has yet to prove itself, I wonder if any free agents will snub their noses at the Jets this year.

Touched on this in another thread. The spygate thing may have hurt Mangini in a lot of circles around the league. Coming in here and taking a coaching position may be going against the grain now. Team that with the fact that the last high profile superstar we had was Curtis Martin and even he wasn't really a larger then life kinda guy and it may make high profile players looking for more limelight stay away. This is a traditionaly bad franchise that hasn't shown any real signs of turning the corner.

The only kind of big name FA's I could see signing here are the types that are looking for nothing more then a big payday(which I guess is most probably). The problem with those guys is that they're obviously more about money then they are about winning. They'll get their check and play out the string. Why other then money would a guy who places high value on winning and respect come to the Jets?

Money talks! You guys will just have to be like the Lions and pay 2x the going rate for X player.

They're going to be the Montreal Expos on the NFL. In about 8-10 years, the NFL is just going to get rid of them all together.

We're not going to get any great deals for players ala the pats, but you could do a lot worse then making millions playing in New York. I think the only thing really stopping us from landing quality players is us and our cheapness.

I can only imagine what the backlash would be if we don't get ANY FA lineman before the draft next year....

The lash will be on our backs, as fans, because the Jets will suck again if we don't get any lineman through FA.

No, 99% of players in the NFL will just go where the most money is. No need to debate here.

True - Sign a great player to big money and others will follow. Our problem is wer almost never pay big money.
