Ok Fellas, Help me out...this is the offseason and even with a NEW regime in place, instead of a wait and see mentality, we STILL have the bickering, bitching, whining, moaning and groaning back and forth about the intent or the team, how good this team will or won't be yada, ada, yada. This is no shot at any of the posters but really is it that serious, cause some of you guys are taking this waaaaaay too personally??? I for one believe we are REBUILDING, that we are NOT gonna see the playoffs for AT LEAST 2 seasons. We will vie for high draft pick yet again in 2007. We need a year for people to get used to the new coaching staff and the new offensive and defensive systems. We need for this NEW regime to bring THEIR people into place and our offense needs a MAJOR overhaur at EVERY position. This was the case BEFORE Herm left So my question is fellas, What are some of you guys expectations for the upcoming season and ask yourself are the expectations REALISTIC? And Why u think they are reastic. Honestly I dont see us winning more than 6 games this season (look above if you need to know why i feel the way i feel). I am PREPARED for that eventuality, if I'm wrong I'm wrong, but I doubt I will be. So guys lets put into perspective on this thread. Tell me your thoughts
If Chad is completely healthy they could win 9 or 10 games IMO. In order to win that amount the Jets would also need a real solid draft and a key (Kendall type) FA pickup during training camp. That is easier said than done though. Of course this is still the Jets we are talking about so I'm thinking closer to 6-10 reality. I would be shocked if Chad played the entire season and the draft is always a crapshoot so to expect anything better than 6-10 would be a surprise.
Here's the temas we play this coming season Buffalo (2), Miami (2), New England (2), Houston, Indianapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Oakland, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Green Bay, Minnesota, Cleveland I see atleast 9 as long as we get a decent OL together...Here are the wins Houston, Detroit, Oakland, Tenn., GB, Minn., Miami (once), Jacksonville or Cleveland, Buffalo (once if not twice).
I don't know about Cleveland and Tennessee anymore...they're almost whole new teams with all those big FA signings... Yes we are rebuilding but I don't think Mangini is intent on having a shitty season and using that as an excuse. It's his first rodeo but I'm expecting at least 2nd in the AFC East and making a run at the wild card. Not too much to ask is it?
Well if you take them out then I still say we can beat Buffalo twice and still get to 9 and I agree that there is no way Mangini wants to have a shitty season...I just think when it's all said and done that people are going to be shocked at how good this team is going to be in 06!
ATL, I totally agree with you. I don't forsee any more than 6 wins, and probably more like 4. I think people are expecting a bit much given that just two years ago we were a kick away from the AFC big game. Last year we should have been "a player or two" from the SB. Theoretically, we should "still" be a "player or two" away, but a lot has changed over the past two years. We lost our best pass-rusher, our starting QB is a huge question mark, Ty Law was the "answer" last year, our drafted kicker is still a question mark, and we have a totally new scheme on both sides of the ball. Hot Rod, I wish I could be as confident as you, but I don't think we can beat all of those teams. Houston could be significantly better next year, so it will be a tough game. Detroit, I am predicting will be a loss. They have a very capable team fielding next year. Tenn is going to depend on the draft and how McNair plays as "tutor" next year. GB is a big question mark, since they have no idea who their QB is yet. Minny is a mess, so we can probably beat them. Miami is going to be tough, though with Culpepper they will be either really good, or really bad. Jacksonville is better than us right now. Cleveland is quickly improving. My predictions for wins: 1 against Buff, Miami, and Oakland (all at home) and Minn (away.) That's only 4. I really wish we could pull out more, but I just can't see it yet. I sunshine every year, but this year, I just can't do it. We are in rebuild mode. 2008 is our year. It sucks waiting, but we have been waiting for so long now, it's nothing new. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than let down once again.
I totally agree expect I go to a Bills bar with another Jets fan (and a buddy that's a Bills fan) and it drives them all crazy, especially when we beat their ass!!!!
In this era of parity, there are no teams without weaknesses. "Rebuilding" might mean improvements at just a few positions ...or a bright, new coaching staff. With smart moves, the Jets could turn it around like these teams did from 2004 to 2005. Miami 4-12 to 9-7 Giants 6-10 to 11-5 Wash 6-10 to 10-6 Chicago 5-11 to 11-5 Tampa 5-11 to 11-5 Rebuilding doesn't have to take years anymore.
I agree ColezDeep, I think that Cleveland and the The Titans are considerably better than last season
True....lets see how the TanGini tandem do in their 1st draft...I want either Mario Williams, Cutler OR Leinart w/or 1st pick and Mangold w/or 29th pick we BETTER NOT trade up. Unless we're trading up to the #1 spot to get Bush and why would we do that when we can trade down, get extra picks and get L. White or D. Williams. Just my opinion
thank you, thank you, and yet again...thank you. i agree with you completely. there is no way that the jets do well next season. unless chad somehow gets better(this is what i'm hoping for, but i still agree wtih you), which i dont see happening, we are going to be pretty bad next season. ya i know we're in rebuilding, finally, and i really think it'll work out too. the only part i disagree with is that the jets might have a shot at making the playoffs not next season, but the season after that in 2007 only becuz we have a weak division and it depends on who we pick in the drafts the next 2 seasons offseasons.
I think somewhere between 4-8 wins is pretty realistic. My expectations are as low as they have ever been. I just hope that regardless of our record, progress, and improvement become clearly evident
8-8 With the stregnth of schedule and the talent on this team, I think that a .500 season is a realistic goal. Maybe I'm to optimistic, but thats the way I feel.
Curtis....u maybe right about 2007...we shall see...and how did the AFCE go from being the toughest division in the NFL, back to the laughing stock of football AGAIN?! ~~~SMDH!!!~~~
