Wahle, former pro bowler with Panthers is now available. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=350589
I could be wrong, but isn't Wahle a bit old? Rather see us going after someone a little younger, that the team can build around and be here for a while.
Yes, that was my thought process. I don't know much about him, but if he was a pro bowler once, maybe he can be again?
I think he HAS to be an improvement over what we have in there now, and I can;t imagine him being very expensive. I don't see why we wouldn;t snatch him up and save ourselves from having to draft someone there unless there's an ultimate steal available, then you have a legitmate player to rotate in and carry the load while the new guy develops. I think we'll be contacting this guy, it make too much sense.
Definitely. At 30 years old, most OL have at least 3-4 decent years left in them, if not more. I'd be fully on board with acquiring him
Wahle was a cap casualty. He's probably still a decent left guard. If we could sign him for a middling contract it might be well worth the effort. He shouldn't be getting top dollar though.
Said it in the other thread.....lets bring him in, better than what we have now. We can't drag our feet this offseason damn it!
When a team like the Jets only have 2 positions on the O-Line that have potential in mangold and Ferguson... And a pro bowl O-Lineman at the age of only 30 hits the market... It should be a #1 focus for the Jets FO to go and get a player like this.... Just my thoughts though, what do I really know?
Why not? He seems durable enough. He has to be smart (Annapolis grad). 6'6" and 310lbs, large enough. He may not be as good as Faneca but he may just fit the bill and probably cost less. Certainly worth a very serious look.
How does this work though? Can we pick him up now or do we have to wait for the FA signing period to begin? Or is that only for people cut after the FA period begins?
You have to ask how does this position rate to our other needs? How many guards are better then him in this years NFL draft? Which ones will still be available when we decide to draft a guard? Guard is a huge need for us. Sign him now and still consider drafting a guard in the mid to late rounds. If we don't sign him or someone of quality we have to use a high pick to get that kind of quality at LG.
He is better than what we have now that is for sure. He should be a great pickup for us and has atleast 3 years left. We could use a veteran on our O-line. It is so funny how excited I get about off season transactions I know I am not alone.
Absolutely. He would allow us to fill a position of great need without crushing our ability to fill other needs. He was awesome on the Packers the year before he left and his departure, along with a tackle who's name ludicrously escapes me right now, sent GB into a downward spiral they've only just come out of. I would be as happy as a pig in shit if we got this guy at anything under $3m per.
I'd bite. He's young enough to still have a few good years left and he used to be one of the top guys at the position. He'll also probably be infinitely better than the traffic cone we had playing LG this past year. It'll also allow us to grab a late round developmental guy at the position to take over in a few years after Wahle's contract is over.
which is exactly why we won't be contacting him. he definitely deserves an offer. if signed, when the draft comes, then you don't have to be hellbent on finding a player to fill a need. if a G is sitting there that's top value, you can take him anyway and prepare for the future. the OL cannot have enough depth.
30 is not bad, I wasn't sure on the age. Any injuries? I am not familiar with the guy. I wouldn't mind the signing, I just hope if they do sign him it isn't the end of the Oline overhaul. We need a RT and alot of young depth to develop. Only having Bender back there developing doesn't exactly instill you with confidence for the future, or if someone gets hurt. Can never have enough depth on the Oline.
