The only thing we've done to upgrade our pass rush is signing Pace--a guy with one OK year under his belt who may be on the rise or may be a Brian Thomas-in-the-pan.

Now that we have a DT (thank God), hopefully he will provide some push up the middle allowing our ends and outside LBs to get a shot at the QB.

But you still need 2 pass rushers, one on each side. Even if Pace is "the man", he will be easier to neutralize if there's no else of significance to worry about.

The Jets would be wise to draft Gholston for a couple of reasons:

    1) He looks like the kind of stud (a more durable Abraham) that can ring up 12-15 sacks a year

    2) He'll make the Pace signing look even smarter by giving Pace more one-on-one opportunities. If Pace can also reach double-digits, at least 10 sacks, the 42 mill Tanny gave will look like money well spent.

I agree with this post. Despite our line moves, I think our running attack does not need a bolster, while our pass rush STILL needs a huge influx of talent. I think the defense is still about 2 pass rushers and a cornerback away from having top 10 talent. We need a pass rushing OLB and a pass rushing ILB, and Gholston will fill that need.

    No... No.. No...

Gholston would be a wasted pick at #6.

harris showed he can get to the qb. i'd like to see us find a replacement for ellis and have some depth on the d line that can get to the qb in pass rushing downs.

Pace was successful in the SOLB position that Thomas was moved to this season after being successful at the WOLB position. If Thomas can regain the success he had at WOLB and Pace continues what he did in his first season at SOLB that does give us two pretty solid OLB's. So adding Pace could give us 2 upgrades.

I agree that another pass rusher ala Merriman is definitely still something we could use.

    Just curious:

Was there anyone, who correctly predicted the Jets would draft Revis and Harris last spring?

So true...Passrusher needed....Gholston seems like the man....But if McFadden is available....He is "THE MAN"...dude !!!

He will make an impact like none other.

Exactly, let's pile on and keep building the defense. You can never have enough defensive depth or pass rushers. Gholston is an amazing raw talent who can get to the quarterback, if he falls to us we have to take him

Not saying McFadden won't be a decent player, but we're set at RB, Jones + Washington is good enough, especially behind a revamped line.

I think TGG posters were collectively 0 for 214,573 in draft predictions last year. I expect a repeat in 2008.

Or we could take a running back in a later round that is equally as talented...

Kiper almost did, he had Revis at #25 for like 3 weeks until his pro day. then he jumped to 15 wit PIT until we took him one spot ahead.

Harris was a 1st round projection who dropped due to the "bad coverage" knock on him.
He was supposed to go to the pats at #28

Kiper had Harris to the Bills (No.12?) in one of his last mocks.

YES, YES, YES! Gholston would be an awesome pick. In case anyone noticed, a surplus of fresh, rotating, pass rushing specialists is what propelled the Giants through the playoffs against the Buc, Boys, Packers and Hateriots. They reduced some otherwise powerful offenses and QBs into turf munching floor mats. Gholston is easily my first choice, particularly since there is a good number of excellent RB prospects to be had in the 2nd and 3rd round should we feel the need to draft one.

I think that part of the Giants' success at rushing the QB is having enough depth to rotate their players and keeping each of them as fresh as possible towards the 4th Qtr.

Now picture this: The entire Jets front seven all showing blitz on a third-and-long play with both inside AND outside pressure crashing into the OL.

If Jenkins can be what we project him to be and with Harris right behind him, you can pretty much say that the middle is covered.

With Pace at LOLB, Thomas at ROLB and Bowen and a rookie stud (Gholston, Groves or Avril?) backing them up, now who do you double up on?

The potential of this group's ability to put pressure both inside and outside would wreck havoc on the opposition. Kinda gives me visions of the '85 Bears in my head.

I totally agree with you and that we should pick-up at least another Edge-rusher on the first day of the draft.
