http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2008/03/source-jets-add-te-bubba-frank.html Source: Jets add TE Bubba Franks The Jets have agreed to terms with former Packers TE Bubba Franks, an NFL source has told the Daily News. Franks, a three-time Pro Bowler, is coming off one of his least productive seasons. But he provides depth, backing up Chris Baker. The Jets focused on Franks after failing to sign Colts TE Ben Utecht last week.
this should be interesting, but I think he can do a great job for us since we love the short dump routes
Awesome...I like everything they have done. They have all the weapons they need and having Baker and Franks gives them multiple reliable weapons. I don't understand how any Jet fan isn't siked about what this team has done in the off season.
I like this move. He adds run support and a solid red zone presence. He's had his fair share of injuries this past three years, which is why he is only being brought in as a backup.
Don't we have enough of those: Pociask, and Kowalewski? I guess down low in the draft, everything is a crapshoot, but..
Pociask and Kow are H-backs. I think they will share some time in the backfield when Richardson needs a breather. We now have tight end depth though.
I love this signing...the Jets are a much deeper team then they were lat season and we havent even hit the draft. love it!
He was the starting TE when Ahman Green was a beast...so he can't be bad. I am sure he is going to be used in 2 TE formation, along with goal line situations. Good backup...good signing.
Damn, Mangini and Tannenbaum strike again... it's all about da U Baker and Franks are both weapons in the receiving game. I know everybody notices Baker's exceptional pass-catching skills, but he's not a bad blocker. I like Franks a lot- he's a gritty, hard-nosed type of player too and gives a lot of effort in the blocking game. Honestly, the key goals for the Jets is to get some depth at WR, defensive end, secondary, and ILB in the draft. The draft needs are really starting to come into view and seem like an easily attainable goal.
This all goes back to tannys philosophy of filling needs through FA so when th draft strikes a pure BPA stance can be taken.(An argument can be made however that this was not the case heading into last year's draft)
We're going to have a very strong power-I formation this year. I hope Schottenheimer uses it correctly. Franks, Brick, Faneca, Mangold, Moore, Woody and Baker... With Tony Richardson and Jesse Chatman running the ball. Maybe leave Coles on the sideline and bring in Sean Ellis for some extra oomph? That sounds tough to stop.
Didn?t he line up in the backfield a lot when GB used their 2 FB sets? I think both he and Baker could play the H-Back position.
Depth player-- goal line blocker, vet who provides leadership and knowledge... help Baker become better, 2 TE sets. Good pickup- but he isn't the answers to our problems. He's another quality pickup though.. Not once have we foolishly overspent on a mediocre player this off-season... every signing has a motive next to it... very non-Redskins.
good, good. Goal line and short yardage situations were a major problem for us last season. I can't remember the last time I saw any team screw up so many 2nd/3rd and 1's and goal to go situations.
