So my season tickets are now $80 a pop and my parking is $20. $10 more per game than last season, so now I will NOT be buying the soda and knish as I used to. Prediction: They are gearing up for the PSL hit and pricing out the little guy who can barely afford to go to a game at all.
Sport Economics 101-- raise prices until your entire demand goes away... the little guy can be replaced by one of the thousands on the waiting list... The business of sports is evil, and there is nothing we can do.
Answer: Greed. The thing is that if you give up your tickets, some Corporation (that can write the price off their taxes as an entertainment expense) will buy them up and you'll never see them again.
Welcome to Woody World!:beer:The whole concept with the new stadium is to cater to the corprate world and to hell with Joe Blow the middle class guy who has supported this team going back to the Shea stadium era. Look for seats to bump $10 when the new stadium opens.
I'm being devil's advocate because i'm in the business... the real fans are still on the waiting list, its a shitty business. No matter what... they win.
And scarily enough, ownership doesn't care, because as long as they are receiving massive profits, they don't give a shit whats on the field... its disgusting. Thats why i'd like to be an owner, never going to happen, but if i was i'd have the passion to win a ring... Woody Johnson doesn't.
Where are the massive profits?? Do the math! Players, Coaches & Staff salaries, rental fees at the Stadium, travel costs for the team. How much do you think this costs? Should the owners run the team at a loss?
The fans on the waiting list may be real fans, but paying $50 a year to stand on line is not the same as forking over $3000 a year for 20 years. The fans who've already invested a college education's worth of season tickets in this team, deserve some consideration. That kind of loyalty (insanity) doesn't grow on trees. I'll say it again, when the worm turns and the lunchpail crowd has been replaced by corporate suits, you'll see lots of empty seats. But it will only matter to the players because ownership will already have it's ticket money and parking money.
The massive profits come from the massive TV contracts..look it up. The rest is gravy so wtf do they care what they charge as long as somebody is willing to pay.
Your 100% correct, and thats the unfortunate part of the business and the scary future they may be heading towards. I wish there was a way to balance it out. They will take the risk of 3000/yr being that next guy on the waiting list, but i am more of a loyalist myself... There should be a seniority discount- the longer you've had the tickets, the cheaper they should be, even if its $300 off the total bill after 15 years, your still giving those fans some deserved relief.
I don't believe this for one minute. If they are successful they are going to be even richer than before. Sure, they want to squeeze every wooden nickel out of the franchise regardless if they win or not, but I wouldn't believe for a minute that they don't care about winning. Winning is going to make raking in the dough all that much easier.
$10!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's funny. Look for a $5000 PSL for 5 years and then another 5k for another 5 years and no increase in ticket prices. That $5000/50 games =$100 more per game for 5 years.
If there's a PSL, I'll have to drop the tix. It's just too much at one time. And when the stands are empty (like in Miami) then Woody won't be making his TV money. So good luck with the corporate crowds asswipes. You can have my money for now. Hell maybe when it comes up for PSL I can offer to sell my seats to someone for a PSL
