Solid Secondary....I remember watching something yesterday that talked about the vikings having one of the worst pass defense in the nfl so that's not too solid to me. Dominant Run D with no pass rush makes for a pretty bad defense still. Back on topic; why not have high expectations this year. We all know the Jets are a roller coaster ride in terms of the type of seasons they have...being somewhat bad one season to somewhat good the next. I wouldn't be too surprised if we do well this year but I'm looking for some consistency for once. Back to back to back winning seasons would be a nice change of pace. Yes we have holes all teams do; the biggest factors to me heading into the season are how are new oline and dlineman perform and will our pass rush be any better....if these 3 spots come together like they should I think our qb (whomever that is) will have a shot to actually distribute the ball instead of scrambling for his life. Either way, the FO has done all they could so far to make us a team to compete now; you don't spend that type of coin for an extra 2 wins. Also consider that we didn't lose to many games by a wide margin...maybe these add'l players are what we need to put us over the hump; to win those tight games.
I think the operative words are "built to compete". What I would add is "whenever, whereever, with whomever...!" It's time we get some respect, and keep it.
http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2008/04/say_goodbye_to_matt_ryan.html words from dave hutchison, Third, the Jets are a NOW team and they -- nor coach Eric Mangini,-- have three years to wait for Ryan. They're thinking playoffs after spending over $140 million this offseason, not rebuilding with a young quarterback
Here's my take. 2 years ago we probably overachieved to a 10-6 record. With basically the same team as the years before, (I didn't say exactly the same) probably worse in some areas, better in others, we underachieved to a 4 win season. I think with that said, talent-wise, we were somewhere in the middle. Probably 8-8 is accurate. Now look at what we've done in FA this offseason. We are dramatically better than either of those teams, talent-wise right now. Adding Callahan might be as big as any one player and that seems to have gotten lost a bit. Make no mistake that was a huge signing. We haven't even added our #6 pick yet either. I have no illusions that all these new pieces are going to jell right out of the gate. It will probably take a few weeks to figure things out. Having said all that, the QB situation has me more than a bit un-nerved. I see a 9-7 season ahead of us with 1-2 games going either way.
Seems to be a good way to look at things. Of course I'm saying that because I completely agree with you  Many seem to over react to both the good and the bad. Magini was god after year one, and the devil after year two. The reality is somewhere inbewteen. We have t he talent to finish above .500 this year, but need a few breaks along the way. One of those breaks has to be a QB stepping his play up big time from last year.
I would not at all say the Jets are built to win this year. I think they'll be close, but I just don't see them beating out the Bills and Patriots.
^ the bills? i know thev'e made some nice moves this offseason, but were way ahead of them, and what i mean by win now is, for the next 3 years
I don't know about this "way ahead of them" stuff... The NYJs don't match up well against the Bills. They like to beat us and they have no respect for our line of scrimmage. We're going to have to put a whipping on them and make them take it to change this.
the bills are almost in position to consistently win 9 games for the next 5 years. I'd like to have that consistency.
ndmick, we usaly agree w/each other, but not on this, the bills have no qb, a shitty head coach, no te and recievers who dont show up consintenly, do they always play us tough? yes, but division games are usaly tough
Sorry my friend, I know the Bills won 7 games last season, but they are just not that good. 4 Wins came against some shitty Miami and Jets teams last season. they were 3-7 against all other opponents. Losman sucks, Edwards needs more time to develop, and their receivers are often hot/cold. Lynch may be the only consistent player on the Bills offense when all is said and done....
The Bills are considered the better team between the Jets and them because of that Cowboys game...they're not *that* good though I'd love Jason Peters and Marshawn Lynch.
my gut tells me that they are poised to not screw up for the 1st time in a long time. Edwards might be able to glue the offense together, Lynch is a good RB, they have Evans and Parrish, a great ST game, and the D has pass rushers. If posulzny comes back healthy and is still effective they might be a good team this year. Jauron had a team with more injuries than the Jets, Pats, and Fins combined and found a way to win 7 games. With a fully healthy team i don't know if they are going to fall back into obscurity again. But they still won't make the playoffs.
lol at they still wont make the playoffs comment, think about this, they beat us twice and the dolphfags twice for four of there 7 wins

The Vikings' pass defense always for some reason looks like world beaters when they play the NYGs -- man, 07 and 06 games between the two looked almost exactly the same!
I have said before we are building in the way that Parcel?s did in the past. We are loading up for a 2-3 year charge to win a super bowl! If you think back to 1998; not a single person on this sight can say that they knew we would blow the door off the NFL and make it as far as we did. This year is very similar to that year. ; Great enthusiasm and the potential to be a playoff contender. I think our most pressing issue at this time is at quarter back. I think Chad can lead us there; but I also think that Kellen has more intangibles that Chad does not. Where this goes is anyone?s guess. All I know is this year we will win double the amount of games that we won last year and maybe more. I will be there week one and will be screaming my head off; probably getting thrown out of Dolphin stadium because Ill be in a fist fight from the opening quarter. Won?t you join me! One game at a time!!!!!!!!!
