You ask us these questions like we are part of New Orleans front office. Nobody on this board has any idea what the Saints are thinking. I think they will draft Brick, but its not because I know anything...just a hunch
I think the saints will draft Super Mario because Scott Wright one of the professional scouts says that's what he knows about their war room and that he is the highest on their board. Plus he's pretty accurate on what team picks who. Whether its at 2 is the question. I hope to god we do not trade up like I posted before we are in the drivers seat for that trade because the Saints can't trade down to far or the guy they covet will be gone.
Like I've said in another thread noway they take M. Williams. They're gonna trade down & look for Brick or Hawk
Nobody on this board has any idea what the Jets are thinking either. Unless some here is sitting in on the meetings?
Kind of a good thing and bad thing. Great b/c Tangini has disguised there plans with there boring press conferences and short answers as oppossed to Herm and Bradway, bad part is that fans like us are on boards like these speculating day and night
If the Saints stay put at # 2, Ferguson makes the most sense. I'm sure Mario will be tempting but theyve spent a considerable number of 1st rounders on DE's in the past 5 years or so, and anything more might be overkill. Ferguson will fill the biggest need and is one of the best players available at # 2. I think he'll be their pick.
Two very good ones as well, Charles Grant and Will Smith, who they used a 1st round pick on just a couple of years ago. I really hope they pick D'Brick so we don't pick him. We don't need an LT, we need a RT, and Brick is not that.
I hope they pick Dbrick also, but you have to remember they have as many holes as us. They have a new coaching staff also, so they will probably take BPA regardless of position. Its not like rookies start every down right away. So we have no clue who they will take and they have 2 starting T's as of now. One they took in the 1st rnd last yr and one who is aging(so that tells nothing we dont know his contract details where he can be a stopgap). This is a wild card but they can still take a QB(due to Brees option bonus). I am assuming they wont look at QB but, they are just like us they can go anywhere depending on their BPA.(We wont know what who that is until Reggie Bush is signed) And that can be never but houston should start negotians for reggie bush 2 weeks before the draft.
I for one will be rooting for them on darft day to pick D'brick. Then mario would fall into our laps. I wouldn't want them to trade down either because it would be bush, brick, and leinart and if we trade down gb could take mario at 5 if the team that trades with us doesn't that is.
Kurt, I agree with the spirit of your post. DE at #4 would get them roasted by the media and a lot of fans... maybe Williams would be overkill. At the same time (I almost typed At The Gates there; Paging Doctor Freud), I don't think Tannenbaum and Co. are overly concerned with pundit analysis, and I think they will go with whomever is highest on their board once the pick comes around. Maybe it will be a defender, or maybe they'll address the most glaring need on the team, which obviously is protection for the QB and a solid run-blocking base. Need versus BPA - the unending offseason debate. Edit: I never got to ask you... it looks like we're still hunting out big bodies that are able to run the zone scheme. What's your take?
Whats funny about them trading down and if we became a partner. Everyone would expect us to take Leinart. But I would take M Williams(yeah he might not fit our system) but I go by BPA and I dont know the "tangini" rankings, but if they took M Williams at #2 everyone would freak out and cry. Remember the Saints have Brees ranked ahead of someone in this draft.....(many other teams probably do also, but people go gaga over rookies). But remember would you give Robertson a 7 yr 56 mil deal if he was a FA? We did before he played a down and we traded 2 1st rnders and a 4th rnder to do so.. I know without incentives it is 30 mil less, but they were easily attainable. The Saints thought to give better money on the draft on another position.
