What has D'Brickashaw Ferguson done to solidify himself as the best tackle in this draft worthy of a top 5 pick? The guy is officially 6'6 and 305 pounds. His whole career he has been only known as a pass-blocking tackle and so-so in the run game. He is more finesse than physical and never has really shown much of a mean streak on the field. He consistently gets beat by swim moves because he is always leaning and he has not gone up against stronger defensive players, which leaves a lot to be determined. Why would the JETS pick him 4th overall so he can get lighted up like a torch by the like's of Jason Taylor and Richard Seymour, two pro-bowlers. Ferguson was fortunate to be pass-protecting with a mobile QB in college that could get away from would-be tacklers. In the NFL, it's a whole new type of ball game. Ferguson is way overhyped. He does not have the big time resume as a Bryant McKinnie, for not giving up a sack his whole college career. Or even that of Marcus '' Mt. Everest'' McNeil 6'8 335 LT from Auburn who is also coming out who hasn't given up a sack in 43 start games dating back to his freshmen season. Mel Kiper can hype up D'Brick all he wants but when NFL coaches and scouts watch game tape, they see a LT that has a long way to go to be considered a complete franchise LT. The JETS only concern from here on out with the 4th pick should be between, Super Mario Williams or Vince "Always Wins" Young. D'Brick Who, What have you done in your career?
I agree. I have never really bought into the hype of D'brickashaw and would much rather them get OL with the later picks. I think they should either go with Mario or AJ Hawk if they stay in the 4th slot.
D'Brick has pretty much been a beast for his entire collegic career. Last year was a down a year, and he still dominated. In only one game last year, he was outclassed, and that was against Virginia Tech, which has a ridiculous front 4. And when Hagans had to scramble, it wasnt because D'Brick wasnt blocking his man. Hagans himself says I never ever had to worry about my backside. On top of that, he then goes on to the Senior Bowl and shuts down the best seniors in the country, in one on one drills and during the game. Its funny how you can knock this guy, when basically everyone else who watches College Football will tell you this kid is a top 5 pick. I can understand if you think there are other good Tackles in the draft, but to say he is not the best is just plain retarded. You're gonna find way more people praising D'Brick than knocking him.
The DE from BC was considered a potential top 10 pick right after the season. He then went up against Fergunson in the Senior Bowl and got shut down. He's now a mid to late 1st round pick.
D'Brick will probably be the best player left at number 4....and what a player! Mario will likely be taken off the table: whomever we take at number 4, provided he's not a quarterback, we will have a deadset winner.
Kiwanuka got his ass shut down by D-Brick th guy is 6-5 305 yes I would like to see him gain 20lbs which in my opinon is not to hard with his frame. The guy is a beast and will just give a QB the security he will need the next 10 years..If the guy was 320 we would no be questioning him at all..Draft his ass if he is there at #4 in my opinon is a no brainer
hell yea .. he neutralized kiwanuka and hati from penn state .. they were supposed to be top 10-15 picks ... but now their stock dropped so low i say if dBrick is there at 4 .. take him unless for some strange reasons lienart or supermario is still on the board .. then i would go for lienart or mario
kiwi was overatted is you see him play once you could see he wasnt a top 10 pick.. he got shut out in many games this years.
Since most think D'Brick is legit, how do think he would fare going up against Super Mario Williams? In the Senior Bowl, I'll give D'Brick his credit for taking down Kiwanuka but the guy is basically a speed rusher and has no pass-rushing moves unlike Darrly Tapp from Virginia Tech who was giving D'Brick a run for his draft status at 6'2 265. Mario Williams is a complete defensive end at 6'7 295 that has all the moves to dominate at the next level while Ferguson is getting way over hyped. If you watched and listened to the Senior Bowl practice and game you would know D'Brick has many flaws in his game especially run-blocking that were pointed out by Mark May a former offensive lineman. And I know many remember that sack he gave up to Mark Anderson on a swim move in the Senior Bowl, a move that D'Brick continually gets beat on. What good is it drafting a overhyped franchise LT when he is a liability in the run game. D'Brick has the name everyone likes but his game overall is just not top notch. Orlando Pace, Jonathan Ogden, and Walter Jones are franchise LT's that get the job done both in the run and passing game. D'Brick on the otherhand, has a long ways to go to be put in that category because he is just not physical. He has the name and personality everyone loves but his game is what I am evaluating and its not that of a franchise LT for the NEW YORK JETS.
With Pennington, or Ramsey playing qb, having an outstanding pass protecting LT is ok with me. I'd still rather have Williams or Hawk though
Even though I think Brick is going to be a franchise LT, I will admit there is a little overhyping going on. HOWEVER, there is overhyping with Williams as well. I realize he is a fantastic athlete, and all the rest, but he is still a rookie. He has never played a snap in the NFL, and at this point can be a bust, just like Brick can be. Some people are making Williams out to be a god, the second comnig of Lawrence Taylor. He is a rookie, overhyping any draft pick is silly since any could fall flat on his face in the NFL. The fact of the matter is people who want Williams will overhype him and down play the other picks, like Brick. And vice versa. Non of these draft picks should be put on the pedistal that we the fans, put them on. Personally I feel Brick and Williams will be impact players in the NFL, and I would be happy with either. However, I feel Brick fills a more pressing need on the offensive side of the ball.
Well what do you expect the analyst to say. Of coure they got to say the negatives about a player also. Even the god like Reggie Bush gets dissected like; he doesnt run in between the tackles, isnt an every down back, hasnt handled a full load, etc. And against Daryl Tapp, you cant just write him off because of that one game. The entire O-Line got smashed by Virginia Tech. Virginia Techs front four is ridiculous and i remember hearing an analyst say that Virgina Tech basically has 4 Warren Sapps up front. Forgive D'Brick for not single handedly dominating a 4 man line. Also, Virgina Techs entire Defense was bananas last year. And also, its not fair to compare a DEs stats to an LT because a LT doesnt have stats. DEs can accumulate sacks and tackles, where as an O-Line has...nothing. All he has is his ability to keep his QB standing and last i checked he was amazing at that. Pulling and Run blocking can be taught. Being both Agile, strong and nimble on your feet cant be taught.
I second that. Obviously D'Brick is the best LT in the draft, but there are other good lineman we can pick up later with our 4 picks (after #4 in the top 100). Plus isn't Van Olehoeffen like 33 yrs old?
I like D-Brick ...Anyone from Freeport know much about the character of this guy?I know he was a religous study major which I like. What is also a nice point is the guy started and played every game in colege. The guy could have been drafted top 10 last year as a Junior. He is the best O Line prospect since Pace and has glimpses of a Peppers on the field .The guy did not give up a sack at all his Junior year and last year while playing through injuries he gave up a few.The guy will be a wall that will make our running and passing game excel. The way the draft goes if the Saints draft Mario we have to take D-Brick..I just can't see why we won't..
Ferguson plays bigger than his measurables. If you've seen the guy play I really can't imagine you'd have all these complaints about him.
I just wonder how Darryl Tapp beat up on D'brick twice, that made me a little suspicious. Darryl is decent, but Dbrick should have shut him down
D'Brick off the field is the man but on it, he is just not the big imposing type OT that has been dominating the college ranks that has the ability of continuing that in the NFL. He had four years to get his game together and he skill is a liability in the run game, the run game. As good as he was in pass protecting against less than subpar DE, he will be challenged weekly in the NFL by guys as tall as him and stronger. In college, he basically went up against DE that were 6'2 240 and dominated them as to where in the NFL, he will be going against players that are 6'4 to 6'6 around 260 to 300 pounds that can light him up. He also has not shown that he can not handle the bull rush or the swim move effectively but that for some reason gets shadowed because he has such a cool name. The reason why Darryl Tapp gave D'Brick a run for his money is because he is more physical and more hungrier to dominate from his position. D'Brick can dominate less than subpar players but the NFL is a whole new type of ballgame people. The JETS don't need to draft a young finesse OT especially in the first round that is not physical and or does not play with a mean streak like D'Brick.
Paddock how can you have a VT logo and say that about Darryl Tapp. If D'Brick was so nice everyone trying to get to the QB threw him would be intimidated and have no success. But they just see a lanky LT with a cool name that's getting hyped up by Mel Kiper that can be beat and does.
