Isn't it funny how Jay Cutler's name has been less talked about after a few comparisons to Kyle Boller. He has the physical tools but he lacks the one ingredient that NFL organizations thrive for, wins. The Draft has so many smoke screens thrown at you that some people tend to forget what there team really needs to succeed. And by far the JETS need a QB. I am a big Chad Pennington fan but this is basically his last season to prove to the new coaching staff that he can be the franchise QB. When he's on the field I feel that a WIN is highly possible but him staying on the field for 16 games has not been accomplished yet. Getting Rasmey is just insurance for Chad like Jay Fielder was supposed to be last year but how well did that turn out. Trading up for Leinart would be silly since he is in the same mold as Chad but a lefty version. And his deep ball and the abilitiy to throw out patterns will be questioned repeatedly. But drafting Vince Young a player with the physical tools and the missing ingredient that NFL organizations thrive for is key. On the field he can do everything that is needed to win and that's exactly what the JETS need. Jay Cutler, only a smoke screen no thanks, Matt Leinart, no thanks that arm isn't what the JETS are looking for, Vince Young see you April 17 and 18 and come draft day if your still on the board for the fourth pick be ready to be picked by the NEW YORK JETS.
There is no way mangini takes young on April 29. He will build the team like the pats through the o-line and defense.
All we can really do is speculate and wait till April 29 and Vince Young is not out of the question. Think about it.
Richie, I agree with you completely. I just think that being that Chad is in the situation that he is, Mangini is going to avoid QB this year and draft it next year if Chad shows he can't do it ever again. This is unfortunate because I would love to see Young in a Jets uniform, but then again, the only person I realistically would love to see wearing the starting QB Jets uniform more is Chad.
You know I was originally all for a QB and was dead set on Leinart. He fits NY, Hes a proven winner and such and such. Then I saw Vince Young and said wow he's great too. Theres no way we don't come out of this draft without a great QB but in the recent weeks Ive realized 1. we still have Chad. He gets injured but he wins when he's there. We have other needs and I would hate to waste a year but to potentially draft a high profile QB and then have Chad come back better then ever would be a huge waste. Im sure we can always find some way to trade up for a QB next year IF Chad fails again. Actually if he fails again we might not need to trade up. I would almost bet the bank that if Chad fails and we have a high pick that Brady Quinn is our new QB with the NE connection of Weiss and Mangini. That said Im willing to go for Mario Williams, AJ Hawk or D'Brick and remember every year there is a new QB sensation. Young was good but this year he became a name. Same with Cutler and same with Alex Smith of last year. If we don't have the chance at Leinart I say we wait.
I'd like to see Vince taken just for the fact that no one sees it coming, and I'd be anxious to see how a guy like him would develop on this team, especially in such a huge market.
If the jets are truely going to build their team like the pats, then we are going to need to draft some no name in the sixth round and hope chad gets hurt in time for the no name to win us enough games to win the divison... Darrell Hackney (UAB) anyone???
Anyone who compares Cutler and Boller must not watch much football. Cutler is a much better prospect than Boller was. Cutler was productive on his own, Boller needed Tedford to do all the work for him.
I guess I don't see it. The only similarity I see is that they both have strong arms. Boller couldn't complete a pass before Tedford arrived, and even then his accuracy was only slightly better than awful.
