I jsut saw that article about the 50 cornerstones posted in the forum and it made me think.....if you add Revis and Pace and Jenkins to that mix, we're looking at 6 pretty damn good defensive players on the field at the same time. If you take those 6 and add guys like Shaun Ellis, Kenyon Coleman, Bryan Thomas, and David Bowens, we're lookign at what could shape up to be a pretty damn solid group! Sure, I might just be a fan who knows the team and is projecting success based on a play or two I have seen them make in the past, but with some cohesiveness and good coaching, I still can't see a reason why they all can't consistently play the way we've seem them play in the past. Throw Elam and Pouha into the mix as a potential breakout (or at least solid) players and that makes them look even better! Now all we need is that second corner....Lowery?
We should have a pretty tough D, considering we upgraded 90% of the positions we needed too. I guess it all comes down to how quickly they gell, and start to know each others tendencies. The dreaded "team chemistry".
while I hope lowery becomes a great player, I think he is more likely suited for the FS position. but that is based on reports of his lack of speed, but if his speed on the field is better than the advertised times, he could be a great CB down the road...
I agree, nothing pisses me off more when teams just run the ball at will on the Jets. As they have done for years.
That's what I want to see, and the reason I was so excited about the Jets getting Jenkins. He should make the difference. Robertson just couldn't get it done in the middle, and the results were ugly. I get so pissed watching teams run all over the Jets. All in all, I believe this can be a dominating defense. The real question is the defensive coaching. The personnel is in place.
That's the key to having great defence. Make the opposition one dimensional, which will make Rhodes and Revis that much more dominating.
we will def have a good d this year. theres no way we cant. this d now has the pieces to play the 3-4. i personally have felt that it wasnt the coaching the past 2 years but the fact that we were using the wrong defense for the people we had. now that we have the right people, we can effectively run the defense the coaching staff prefers.
Well yeah absolutely...on paper our current personnel looks liek they should be able to stop that, but the reality is yet to be seen.
Allan1 is def one of the biggest DBs around here .. I forgot to add him in the "pick 2" thread .. :shit:
Jenkins plays at all pro level, your still not a top ten defense. Again no top ten defense has the holes you still have. Who is your Number 2 CB, Your safety opposite Rhodes. Do you see who your starting at DE. IF Gholston dosen't emerge his first year where are your sacks coming from. Lets just say Jets defense shoukld be better than last year. KLeave it at that.
Look at the bright side: We have improved our overall player talent and are building on some of our prior youth. It sure does look like it should/could be a much better 'D'. Two Questions: 1) Are we fast enough to put the presure on the offense? 2) can we stop the RUN? If you ask me I believe we have taken strides in the 'Yes" direction with our offseason and draft.
I know exactly who we are starting at DE and there is nothing wrong with either of them. They're not pro bowlers but they are both solid starters in this league. What are you smoking?
What holes? Ellis and Coleman are both solid at end, and will be a LOT better with Jenkins in between them as opposed to Robertson. Worst comes to worst, Poteat is an admirable hold the fort guy, but simultaneously we have a slew of corners who can hold that position. We don't exactly need Champ Bailey here. Elam got the job done at S last year. He is great in run support and if the best opposing offenses can do to gameplan against us is to try and pick on Elam, then we will be having a great season.
