I don't post enough to start a new thread... but reassessing the Chad era, to me the most glaring misstep/bad luck or whatever was that management never got him that elusive big receiver. Chad was surrounded by smurfs, chrebet, moss, coles, cotch, I loved them all, but it seemed in too many ways they were all essentially the same guy. I can't believe management management saw what he did in college with a guy like moss and did not try to replicate in some way... I know mosses don't grow on trees... but I don't remember a legit attempt either through early round draft or free agency to get a big receiver. J-Mac was all I could think of. With Penny, everything the critics say are true... he's not gonna throw the 20 yard out and they did stack the box, but that was a product of him being him but also improper personnel... I'd say if he had that good tall receiver that could go deep not only would it make defenses look different, Chad would also be an efficient deep thrower. I always thought Chad threw a very catchable jump ball along the sidelines. Big receivers aren't bad on the quick slant either. I guess my point is management never really tried or made it a priority.
If they did a result showing the numbers of balls thrown over 50 yards it would be XX to zero. Chad couldn't throw a ball 50 yards in the air with a 50 mile and hour wind to his back. I remember watching Favre at a QB challenge some years ago and he through two balls over 80 yards in the air. That was awesome. Chad would call that a wet dream.
Coles and Moss both made a pro-bowl, unfortunately it was when they were on the Jetskins. I think we may be seeing C&C Touchdown factory this season.
Like I said in another post, it's semi hysterical to compare Chad Pennington, a bleep on the NFL radar to Brett Favre who is maybe the best quarterback who ever lived. Stats are for losers. Remember that. Chad Pennington is the all time completion percentage thrower for example. Stats are bogus.
Since we can't use stats to talk about Favre, I say we use Chuck Norris and Jack Bauer facts (plus nobody ever called them a loser). They are much more objective than numbers.
You have got to be kidding comparing Chad to Brett. Favre is the only three-time AP MVP (1995-97) in NFL history and led the Packers to seven division championships (1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2007), four NFC Championship Games (1995, 1996, 1997, and 2007), two NFC Championships (1996 and 1997), and one Super Bowl championship (XXXI). Winning is the only statistic that matters.
