QB- Favre LG- Faneca RT- Woody FB- Richardson TE's- Keller & Franks CB- Lowery LB's- Pace & Gholston NT-Jenkins Each and every one of those guys could make an impact and play a huge role for this 2008 Jets team. I feel that Gholston, Lowery and MAYBE even Dustin Keller could be starters for this Jets squad by week 6-8. This is a new looked Jets team this year, this is a different Jets team that only won 4 games last season...Thats for sure.
That could also be a list of the holes we'll need to fill in the next season or two. Should be a fun ride though.
The bolded are the only solid to excellent players the Jets signed this off-season. Keller has a ton of potential but he is a rookie so I'm not going to annoint him yet and I'm not a believer in Kris Jenkins. He will have to a solid season as the NT in the 3-4 for me to believe he can be the guy.
Have you watched Kris Jenkins? If you put one guy on him he is in the backfield in a split second, he clogs up the middle, stops runs by himself, and seems to have a decent motor for such a huge guy. Without this guy we would be just as bad as last year on the defensive side. He is the key to our defense.
We're gonna be a good team this year. Honestly, I think this team will surprise most fans, including myself. We're *really* talented the more I look at it. Even the individuals who've sucked may perform better simply because the actual *team* is better. Weaknesses are easier to hide...we can really use the individual skills of our players better because we've upped the level in talent at key positions. Not only that, but our D should be really good. Our DL depth behind the starters is growing on me. Brown looks really good. DeVito looks decent and played well in his starts last year. Pouha is an excellent backup NT, who knew? Mosley is another good young rotational player. Our LBers are pretty similar, and I'm expecting much better performance from BT for various reason. Pace is going to be a star here. I honestly think he's going to be everyone's favorite LBer in NY by the end of the season. Gholston...well I'll hold off and see what they do with him first. Harris is a monster, and only now is Eric Barton getting the respect he deserves. He's got a reason to play too, because he's getting up there in age and we're getting a shitload of young LBers in here....one of the reasons I also think Thomas will play better. Last year, many fans were excited to see the Jets take the field after a few offseason moves. I wasn't on that train. Our '06 team overplayed their talents and rode a soft schedule, we weren't all that talented. Still, I bought into this Mangini/Tannenbaum duo after that season. They made their moves quickly, confidently, showed some serious intelligence, and had players and fans impressed. Unfortunately, people think good shit doesn't come with some bad times, so sucking last year was enough for many to question the enormous faith they had in the FO just last year. I didn't think we'd be a 4 win team, but I didn't even think we'd be a .500 team. But this year it's a little different. We've got size. We've got playmakers. We've got a nice mix of veteran talent and really impressive young players. Personally, I think Mangini and Schotty are two of the best young coaches in the league. Iunno, I'm starting to buy this shit even more than I probably sounded like I did before. We really fuckin look and feel like a good football team.
I just want to see him do it for a whole season before I consider him a starting caliber NT in the 3-4 scheme.
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...wtf is it but a duck right? Jenkins should be the least of your worries, and this is coming from a guy who really questioned the move at the time...probably on here. I especially like this move because Pouha is an excellent backup...we'll have a nice rotation there to keep them fresh.
i seriously doubt you are going to be pleasantly surprised by this jets team, after reading your post. you seem to be all too excited about this team already, to the the point your getting a woody. myself, i'll wait to see what we have after a few weeks. way to early to really know what the hell we have. afterall, we were 4 and 12 last year. many on this board seem to forget that little major point!!!!!!!!
but the Jets were 4-12 in 05. I wasn't on TGG yet but I told everyone that 3-5 games were possible with the 06 squad - they went to the playoffs. This team can do the same thing.
that is true and i certainly hope it turns out that way or better. so far, we've really seen nothing to go by and really don't know what we have until a few weeks pass. preseason is just looking at the young players and we can't really gage anything from it. when it's for real is what matters. favre, i'm a bit weary of. is it going to be the favre of last year or the favre of the previuos years as a pick machine!!!!!!! as we've seen and know all too much, so go's the qb of this team so go's the season.....
Uh huh, and we were 10-6 the year before. Everyone was all souped up after '06 and...lol just read my post.
New looked??? "New looked?" This is, like, the worst grammar I've seen on this, or any other Website, to date. I know we all get a bit sloppy and all, but if it's a topic starter, I wish we board members could do better than this. "New looked?" This is the NYC Jets, after all, and New York is the home of the publishing industry. We should be like, you know, sort of like, literate. Or something like that. 'aight?
jesus, the guy has one typo and your ready to kill him. i dont wanna rag you cause i consider all jet fans brothers and sisters. and yes we are a new 'looked' team. i said before the draft i thought we were a playoff team, so obviously i still think that, 10-6, 11-5
Dood, I am sleep-deprived and drunk enough that occasionally I make a misteak or too whenever I post to this bourd. But I wooldn't be adding a new topik with a typo in the hedline. This, IMHO, is beyong the pail. Hope you don't mind my own spelling mistakes. Any BTW, my original post was also meant to be in fun...
i disagree. i think keller will be a beast. i saw too much of him at purdue to not buy into that. maybe im wrong thats just me. and being in tampa being forced to see alot of NFC South football. I have no doubt anytime Jenkins is on the field he will be a great assett. the question is how many plays does he see a game? 30? or 40+? i only worry about who will be doing spell duty at NT. and in that case I say CJ Mosely is the best candidate the guy did great rotating at all 3 DL positions last yr. we will see.
I took me about half a series to know that he's fine in the role and about 100 times better then D-Rob could ever hope to be as a 3-4 NT. I belive he is our most important pick up besides Favre this off season.
I'm almost in shock...Just thinking about this Jets team of 2008 led by Bret Favre! B-R-E-T-Bret, Bret, Bret  Seriously...This is amazing...I'm so use to Chad Pennington and his dink and unk-Die once we get inside the red zone type of offense...Now we have one of the best Quarterbacks to ever play the game and you know what? We don't need Favre to be a gun slinger who throws 1-2 Int's a game, all we need Favre to be is a field general behind Ferguson, Faneca and Mangold... We just need Favre to execute with players such as Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, L.Coles, J.Cotchery, C.Baker, B.Smith, D.Keller...We have some play makers around Favre and thats one thing thats exciting! This 2008 Jets team may be the most explosive offense that I have EVER seen and I remember the offense of 1998 with Vinny T...It was pretty solid with K.J making highlight catches along with an amazing offensive line.
