http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/20/jets-new-punter-is-hurt/ This could make things real interesting.
You are right Nova. The kicking game has been an adventure. But the one thing the Chargers do not need is a short field.
Confirmed http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2008/09/uhoh_new_jets_punter_lands_on.html Uh-oh, new Jets punter lands on injury report for Monday night by Paul Needell/The Star-Ledger Saturday September 20, 2008, 4:52 PM Reggie Hodges, signed on Wednesday to replace waived veteran Ben Graham, has what the team is calling a thigh (often Jets code for "hamstring") injury and is questionable for Monday night's game vs, the Chargers. If he can't go, Waylon Prather will be activated from the practice squad. An educated guess, born from 25 years of reading NFL tea leaves? The punter for the Jets on Monday night will be Prather. No way coach Eric Mangini risks going into the game with a punter who already has a leg injury. Also, one of my mentors on the Jets' beat way back when, Jerry Eskenazi of the N.Y. Times, taught me that players who suddenly appear on the injury list two days before a game almost always end up not playing that week. Sounds good to me on this one.
^Stop it with that. He was going to f**k up monday anyway. Better we go with someone else--this kid on our practice squad is going to save the day.
Well I wonder if we'll see more going for it on 4th....so much for conservative play calling.....wtf the world is a crazy place....
i was inclined to say "unbelievable" but, of course, this fits right in with the NY Jets 2008 special teams story. oh well, maybe this is one of those twists of fate that will work for us. let's go waylon!
I'd guess the guy wasn't in top shape and started kicking all day long after being signed. Or maybe he just didn't warm up enough. But probably the former.
We should just go for it on 4th down the entire game. If we don't make it, we just give them 10 yards...
So do we cut Hodges until he heals or do we cut somebody else to activate prather from the PS so he can actually punt monday? I mean seriously, what is the point of wasting 2 roster spots on an injured kicker and punter? I can see not cutting nuge, because somebody else would have picked him up to kick for them, but Hodges hasnt had a starting job in 3 years, and got cut from a Practice Squad in early september, i think he would be safe on the open market for a week or two till he heals up... anyone else agree?
