Whenever someone takes a decision such as this that is very very difficult to evaluate -- especially barely a month after it was made -- I think that at best is a shade of gray, not black & white -- and states there's no doubt it was a mistake ... I pretty much write off ever taking their opinion seriously again. I'm neither disagreeing or agreeing with your conclusion. I'm just saying it's hard to take your judgment seriously when you state things like that, just like the guy in the other thread that is insisting the Jets would be 3-0 right now if they'd never traded for Favre. Errr ...
first let me start by saying I dont give a fuck if you ever value my opinion or not. secondly, unless we win the superbowl this year, it was a mistake. what was thepoint of bringing him in? I will tell you...it is because our asshole front office actually thought we had a shot at winning it all....short of that, its a wasted 12 mil or whatever we pay him and a wasted draft pick. Now let me also tell you this. We aint winning the superbowl, no doubt.
This team will be lucky to win 6 games. The offensive line is horrible, with stupid procedure calls and penalties, no push off the ball, and suspect pass protection. The defense without Jenkins will be worse than what we saw last night. The coaching is starting to resemble the Kotite regime, as Manjackass is starting to have that stupid …”what just happened” look in his eyes. We cannot run and we cannot stop the run. If you don’t do those two things in the NFL, you don’t win many ballgames period…
Well, aren't you a nice young gentleman! If you seriously thought the Jets had a reasonable shot at the superbowl this year, then it's clear you were pretty much set up to declare the Favre trade a failure no matter what. Or the Jets a failure no matter what, whether they got Favre or not. Seriously, the only chance that Jets had to win a superbowl this year, IMO, was maybe to pull a 2007 NY Giants, get hot towards the end & run the table as a wild card on the road. the Giants sucked the first few games last year. Coughlin almost got fired. Given that this was their only chance, it seems to me that, over the stability-but-limited-upside of Chand Pennington, you should actual prefer the ugly-growing-pains-almost-certain-at -the-start-but-lots-of-upside-if-it-ever-starts-clicking option of Brett Favre. So just why are you lambasting the move that almost certainly gives you the most legitimate shot at the only thing you say should matter??? Hrrmmm.
We are not an elite team. New guys like Pace, Favre, rookies getting paid to learn sub-par schemes. The coaching sucks. Sutton should not have been retained let alone made Def coord; Westhoff has had flashes but I wouldn't call him brilliant; Schotty...he was a QB coach with a better than decent QB and now has to quickly adapt to a great. Favre would be better to run and call the offense...yes mistakes included. Mangini looks like a hot headed clueless punk out there. He can roll his eyes and make looks of disgust all he wants, but he doesn't have the pedigree of Coughlin, Gruden, or Cowher to be on par with those well known face making coaches. I think we're on par with Arizona and this week is the true test. We better see our LBs and some nickel and dime packages otherwise Warner/Fitzgerald/Boldin will destroy us.
Because all off-season Jet fans have been putting names into roster spots like they where playing Madden football. Any and all moves the Front Office made where "HUGE" additions and a given to work out. Add two parts draft hype for players that don't produce, and the addition of Q.B. who's long time team was willing to pay 20 million dollars just to stay retired, stir in Jet fans unrealistic expectations and simmer for the off-season.
Im sure you have visions of another Sb in your head after your stellar performance against the Phins this weekend! Im sure the expectations are high in Ne.
Clemens isnt the future QB of this franchise. We dont have that guy on our roster yet. So virtually getting Favre for nothing was not the wrong move, it was the right move.
I had a good feeling that we would be 1-2 but I would hope that we would at least put up more of a fight. It was an embarrassing watching last night. I just wish we would figure out how to use Leon Washington more on offense, I hate seeing his talent going to waste. Maybe we can rally from these last two weeks.
I usually don't post the day after we get our asses kicked because there's simply too much emotion involved and not enough logic. Its not so much THAT we lost, its HOW we lost that's grinding my gears today. We weren't even competitive. This in Mangini's 3rd year of his revamping our team. We simply aren't progressing but we are, as it appears, stalling out. Our DLine was literally pushed into the endzone. Our Wr's looked even slower this year than last year and Farve looked every bit his 38years. I wonder what's went thru his mind on the flight home last night.. Patience? Sure why not. I'm patiently waiting for an established CS to come in here and truly turn things around in fairly short order ala Parcells. I have a bad feeling Miami will catch and surpass us within 2 years quality wise. Woody gambled on a AC and GM combo that was barely experienced but definetly untested. We're paying the price for their growing pains too. Maybe Farve will help sell a few more PSL's. Perhaps he'll make a functional NFL Qb out of one of our kids on the bench. I don't see him here beyond this season and I don't us making any real challenge in '08. Just another long season in a long list of long seasons..
Patience is a virtue but with the jets it will dance on my grave!! Onside kick against one of the best offensive teams in the AFC when we ar on the road and have just answered with ahuge play?? No pass rush as we tried it seems to play an umbrella defense obsessed with avoiding the killer play, why is Sutton still here?? Its no good spending $150 million on players if the coach is from the pee wee leagues. Cutting E Coleman and keeping E Smith 2 seasons ago and he is still worse!!, wtf! Smith may be intelligent off the pitch but on it he has the moves of metal mickey Not using Washington enough , please give him the ball and not on the shit shotgun draw play we use all the time Why when Jenkins went off did we not use a hybrid 4-3 / 3-4 with our No 1 draft pick with his hand down as we all know he is struggling with the "transituon"... Mangini sqaure peg in round hole stubborn as always This team has the talent but the coaching really IS letting us down , i watch every game live and can almost call the plays as they are that predicatable. Mangini needs to stop the belicheck jr impros and start trying to coach like him!
what gets me going about this non-sense is the jets are 1 pass deflection away from being 0-3......... some of us advertised a 1-2 start way before the games counted but it is definitely NOT a feel good 1-2. jil
This resonanets big time with me. For the most part I have been a huge Mangini ass kisser, maybe that's why I'm always smelling shit whenever I watch this team? I have no doubt that our team has a lot of solid talent especially when Jenkins is in. I also firmly believe that if we switched coaching staffs last week we absolutely destroy the Pats. Three games in and our D can't defend a running back or slot WR on third down, we can't run consistently and we have a number one WR who isn't motivated enough to finish off his routes. The coach is either to conservative or panicky in his approach which suggests his flying by the seat of his pants rather than having a plan in place and a plan for adjustments. No panic Ive been through lots of seasons of dissapointment and I know 5 out 6 changes everything. At some point a good football team stands toe to toe with SD on their turf and takes a haymaker and throws one back, instead of trying to throw sucker punches. (Mangini is a fight fan) Is this that team, doesn't look like it yet. Its not a matter of patience because hopefully I'm not going anywhere but watching crappy football plus a thousand commercials and having to listen to Cornhole for 3 hours is starting to wear thin.
2 and 2 in your last 4. I respect the fact that you don't count playoff games. Very few Pats fans acknowledge the Pats SB are tainted and discount them.
good luck getting Randy Moss to produce this year  you might want to save some of your kleenix for him.
I see what you mean about too much emotion. Based upon last night's play, you basically just said that you are not only writing off the next 13 games of the 2008 season, but also the 2009 season and the 2010 season (when you say Miami will catch and surpass us in that period). Wow. That has to be be the most abandonment of hope that I've seen here today.
