About 10 years ago some friends(including devilonthetownhallroof) and I, collaborated on a dream that all of us personally had always hoped for, and later collectively agreed upon: An NFL Franchise going 0-16. Visions of fan/front office catastrophe danced in our heads. The possibilities for the "nfl yearbook year in review" for the given team filled us w/ laughter. What possible positives could a team take away from such a disaster? How would optimistic fans spin it? Since the day of realization...year in and year out, we have watched teams come so close, but in the end survive a fluke win, crushing all hopes. But the dream lives on...as we hope beyond all words that true devistation will overcome an otherwise innocent bad luck NFL Franchise. This is the thread that keeps the flame burning.
This year's possibilities... 1. Cincy- A horrid defense, a torn locker room and a coach on the cusp. Their firepower on offense makes them a long shot..but don't discount the franchise's miserable history, and how close the locker room feels to a complete meltdown. 2. Lions- An even WORSE defense, A mastonic fanbase and a franchise w/ twice as many questions as answers. This maybe the best shot..although this team has a history of being awful and screwing themselves out of the first overall pick...which naturally equates to a meaningless win or 2. 3. Rams- Just atrocious on both lines...aging skill players, and a no name defense make his another solid pick. However, w/ the firing of hated HC Scott linehan and the naming of likeable DC Jim Haslett now the rams have something to play for...and may play inspired ball.
All 3 of this teams have some pretty good Playmakers on Offense, and actually some solid to good QBs, none will go 0-16. Keep your dream alive thou, but that?s a dangerous dream for a Jetsfan, my fire back someday.
I really thought the Dolphins would do it last year. Their win crushed me. I've given up hope that it will ever happen. No matter how terrible a team is, there will always be SOME fluke win. And it sickens me.
The one thing I'll say about the Rams is this: they just fired their coach and replaced him with the coordinator leading the worst defense in the league. They've allowed more than a TD more than the closest porous D. That's atrocious. Granted, Haslett has some head coaching experience, but he hardly seems the same coach he was when he won COY as a rookie HC in 2000.
Never forget the 79 Bucs, my friend. If 0-14 can be done...surely 0-16 can too. I have a funny feeling about the Lions...their defense was DOMINATED by the Falcons AND the Niners...if they get blown out on thanksgiving(which is usually their super bowl) and dont have a win up to that point...they could be our "dream team" and make history.
Good point...although he has absolutely NOTHING to work w/ on D. Whhat cconcerns me is, despite his x's and o's track record...he's a likeable guy that the players will wanna win for. We need dejected players going through the motions w/ no will to win.
Again, though, I'm not sure he's the same guy in that respect either. Maybe this will motivate him, but he seemed absolutely devastated and destroyed by the way he left New Orleans. The guy held that team together when they didn't have a home after Katrina and he was shown the door.
Actually that was 1976. In 1979 Tampa Bay was a very good football team hosting the NFC Championship Game falling to LA 9-0.
Palmer may be out for an extended time per PFT. Fitzpatrick looked like crap yesterday. I think the Bengals odds are going up.
I plan to keep an eye on Palmer news for the next two weeks. I think Cincy can win a game. Hope its not us.
Yeah I think the lions if any. Personally I think its impossible for a team to go 0-16 I mean if KC can blowout Denver then surley the remaining teams will squeak out at least one win. Hell even Kotite got us a win and thats saying something.
With Williams and Johnson, you would think at some point the offense would score some points and make a game of it.
I have dreamed about the 0-16 team myself. We came close in 96. I think the bengals will pull off some wins. My money is on the rams not only do they suck but there locker is a mess
We need them to have a heartbreaking loss under haslett. They're gonna be fired up to play for a likeeable interim HC in Haslett. If they lose a heartbreaker in the 4th qtr...you'll see them lose all pride and fire.
I think Haslett gives you a real good shot at finally seeing this come to fruition. The guy is horrible. And he looks like a dying bird.
