To be honest, that entire game, I had no worries we were going to lose, even up 6. I just didn't see how they would be able to move the ball on us, and I felt that even though we hadn't proven it til that point, if we had to score, we would have. Their offense was just inept. I don't know how much of that was caused by us, but they had no chance.
My worry was a fluke play, not really a drive by them. A bad snap on a kick or an INT run back all the way, like their score in the first quarter off the fumble. When you're up less than a TD and you're the Jets, you always worry a little.
I think the original post was pretty accurate about this franchise..... It seemed like a spot for this team to lose a game to a team that they shouldnt. We saw it in recent years when they lost games to the Lions, Bears or Browns. All post Parcells. We even saw it under Parcells @ Rams. The bottom line is they played awful on the offensive side of the ball. I don't think the Bengals go on that drive if Schott doesn't call 3 straight fail plays on our last possesion of the 1st half. It just had the feel of one of those games that 10 weeks from now we'd say we missed the playoffs because of that. The whole complexion of the season could have changed with that loss. Now we have won 2 straight with 3 of the 4 up being games we should win and Buffalo. The whole division could take shape within the next month and we are right in the mix.
Wow seems we see eye to eye here. You have obviously suffered a long time like a lot of us. What were we like 9-1 before the spike and we dont make the playoffs. Dont tell me 1 game doesnt change a season
i get the feeling were playing as a team, there was alot made about coles and favre 3weeks ago, then during coles 3td game he hands favre the ball, there were hugging laughing, and getting that 'chemistry'. the bungles only got one offensive td against us, and it was controversial, 7 points from there d. we were huge on 3rd down's on offense and defense yesturday. now we go to the dreaded west coast, that black hole bullshit, time to add to the raider mess. b.t.w. has anybody heard from raiderjoe?
we were 6-5, miami was 7-4. and thats why carroll got fired, cause he let that distraught the team the rest of the season.
if this was the jets of years past our defense blows it and gives up 30 points....to be honest the difference maker this year for me has been the defense....especially the run defense...
EVERY team(except NE '07) loses games they should win. We lost THREE of them in 1998 to SL, Indy and Baltimore, in '97 we lost to Buf and the Colts late in the year to cost us and those were under BP. In '68 when the jets won the SB one of their 3 losses came against Buf and it was Buf's ONLY win of that year. There wasn't anything special about this win on Sunday, it's great to win but let's get through all the winnable games w/ W's then we'll talk.
Ok so I suppose it would be best if we didnt write anything throughout the year about what we are seeing or feeling. Especially expressing frustration over the years we where we were supposed to go all the way , only to be shot down in any numerber of ways. Myself I liike to exchange thoughts with my fellow Jet fans on what I am seeing from week to week , and on occasion compare it too what we have already been through. Thought thats what the board was for, maybe I am wrong. When I get a little excited about our team ( and these days it takes a lot to get me going) I like to share it with my fellow fans. It seems their are those that would agree and those that don't. I guess I come here for that to.
Good teams win games they're "supposed to win" and a few they're not supposed to win. The Jets are looking more and more like a good team. I like the way they didn't take Cinnci for granted. We need to do the same thing with the Raiders and KC. Then we're 5-2 going against the Bills.
How many years were we "supposed" to go all the way? '83? '86? '99? That's not a long list. Everyone should be and can be happy that we are 3-2 BUT to act like this is some sort of transformation thanks to Brett couldn't be more wrong.
I understand all the "let hopes and dreasm run free" argument. But I am by nature a pragmatist/realist, not a dreamer. The key thing you say is that they "look and look more like one." That is my singular impression of the 2008 Jets -- they look like they could be, can become, a very good team. But it all seems like only potential so far. We've seen flashes of great play from almost every part of the team, but none of them consistent, and never all at the same time. Something you saw a lot from Patriots last year, esp. early in the season. I would feel a lot more in a "dreamer mode" if I ever see that actually happen. The engine not running on all cylinders has been enough to power us to wins against teams who for the most part were even more dysfunctional when we played them. But even if we get enough wins feeding mostly off the likes of that to get into the playoffs, it will all be for naught unless we actually BECOME a good team, instead of SEEMING LIKE we COULD be one. I hope we can get there by week 8. Yeah ... sorry, I'm pretty much always this much of a downer
No no no I never said it was cause of Brett. I for one was initally not happy with the Qb move I felt that Pennington had what it took to get the job done . I thought no one would no the offense better than he. It was obviouis against San Diego that even a Hall of fame Qb needs time to learn another teams playbook and to get in sync with his recievers. Going into this year I was excited to see what we would like like with a new 80 million dollar offensive line . Giving Pennington more time or opening some holes for Jones. Add to that a sharp looking Tightend/widereciever in Keller. I was thinking if we put Baker and Keller in with our 2 wideouts teams would be forced to defend it with a nickle package , and that would help to open up our running game. I also was excited about the great editions in Pace and Jenkins on our D.Add to that Gholston who has not shown what we had hoped for to this point. And I was excited for what the year had to offer. Then for me it was somewhat of a let down when the Favre Circus show rolled into town. I figured no way this guy comes in midway through training camp and learns all he has to to win us a superbowl in 1 year. Watching him play and actually see him throw the ball started to change me over to his side. But I was still skeptical. The San Diego game was an I told you so game for me. It was obvious that no one was on the same page. But then came the Cards and I got to see what a shootout looks like. I hadnt seen one since Kenny and Dan threw for almost 1000 yards way back when. It was fun again. But I wasnt sold yet. I knew we had easy games coming up and that in years past this is where we would blow it. Yeah every team has a bad day. It just seemed to me all these years that we had more than most. Well after we beat Cinci I started to feel like hey it may be coming together and maybe rwe got a shot. Why not us? However I am still a Jet fan and I am not throwing both feet in just yet. We got 5-2 and beat Buffalo, then I am sold . Until then lets just say I am cautiously optimistic.
