RBs are a dime a dozen, plus I like the ones we have. A guy I kinda have my eye on, as far as RB in the draft, is Andre Hall.
yes, that is exactly what i said a while back, they were focusing on the run and he was still able to run, that shows something
SKILLED RB's are not a dime a dozen, there are few skilled RB's and there are only 2 in this years draft, the rest are average and average RB's are a dime a dozen, Bush and Williams extreamly skilled
nice post--The jets need to draft a RB with one of their top 3 picks, be it White, Maroney or Williams--Martin is PAST being pretty much done--good teams move on
we dont need another rb. we can get one next year once when martin cant run anymore. For now it can be martin and houston w/ blaylock as a 3rd down back. either draft D'brick, Mario or trade down and get cutler
If we don't take DeAngelo early in the draft, I would be THRILLED with maroney at #29. We need a franchise RB bad and he would be a great pickup IMO.
I really like maroney a whole lot, but mangold will better OL than maroney a RB. You can get a good running back at any time.
We absolutely could 'get by' with Martin and Houston and wait to find a halfback next year, and I wont be disappointed if thats what the Jets decide to do. That said, we do have a need at halfback. If Maroney or, God willing, Deangelo Williams is on teh board at 29(unlikely for Williams, but crazier things have happened), Id be thrilled with the pick. From what Ive seen of Maroney, he looks like the total package, a back who could spell Curtis, and take his 25 carries a game when hes ready to retire. The way I see it, deciding who to take at 29, if your between two players you have to think about whos more likely to still be there at 29. The Steelers and Colts both draft after the Jets at 29, and both have a sizeable need for a halfback. Plus you usually see a run on halfbacks at the top of round 2. Mangold is far more likely to still be there at 35 than Maroney.
I like your reasoning for deciding who to take... I agree that there will be a run on HB at the end of the first rnd, and the begining of the second. There could also be a run on the O linemen at the start of the second as well. Mangold would likely be the first to go.
I dont think Mangold will be there at 35. Pitt could easily take him at 35 instead of a RB and if not then the Saints and Texans are great bets to take him with their 2nd rd pick. I think that if the Jets play the waiting game they will lose. If they do choose to pass on Mangold at 29 then they will have to get Eslinger. If they get him then it isnt much of a loss as he is the 2nd best center in the draft.
What a joke....first round talent. He wasnt drafted there, if he WAS first round talent he would have been drafted there. Matt Jones WAS firs round talent and he moved up as such. He was a sixth round pick and I will stick to the numbers that show on average what sixth round RB's produce. I am not saying that we should disregard all late picks, but I am saying I would like an insurance policy in the LIKELY case that he does not become a full time back
We really have no need for a RB early in the draft this year. We still have Martin, Blaylock and Houston. Now, having said that I do NOT think any of those guys are the long term answer, but for right now they will have to do. When you have as many holes on the team as we do...one of the last things you want to fill is the RB position... Also someone had a post showing how many starting RB's weren't drafted high...I would much rather get someone in the 3rd round unless we were in position next year to get Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch...
I agree with original poster that Houston has 1st or second round talent--If the jets were smart they'd get White, Maroney or Williams and use them with Houston. Curtis and Blaylock should be shown the door after June 1. Martin is a sure hall of famer and one of my favorite jets but it's (past?) time.
if lendale and maroney are there i think we should take lendale..... i just think curtis needs a big back to compliment him... like what the did down in pittsbugh with parker and bettis....
