Not getting at the Qb on pass plays is on the D-line. Eric Smith is a scrub in any scheme.

No i know that. But what I saying is that only a couple of players on the defense are bad, the rest are good to great, its just that the DC's schemes make them look pedestrian.

The Jets should have a top 8 defense, but Sutton isn't making it happen.

To some degree this is true but good to great players do find ways to make plays.

Other teams may be playing like sh-t too, but that won't help us win any games against good competition.

Does anybody on this board believe we can beat the Titans?

Not when the DC won't allow you to. Rhodes is playing 25 yards off the ball, and its blitzing from 15 yards out, and then going around the pocket to attack the ball carrier.

The scheme calls for the Vagina Defense - a philosophy in which the Steelers would look like a mediocre defense.

If there whole OL and DL have the flu for the whole game, and then the Jets win by 3 in overtime.

Yea, isn't that part of being a fan?

I don't see why we have to look at it at as "omg we're playing like shit" when we're winning games while playing like shit.

I don't see anyone in the AFC as unbeatable. The Titans are a clone of the very good Jaguars teams of recent years...a dynamic duo at RB, solid QB play, and dominance in the trenches. I don't see why we can't beat them.

Rhodes is one of the captains of the D...why didn't he just adjust?

You're looking to put ALL the blame on the coaching staff...it's become some irrational fuckin fetish on this board to do that.

Hold the fuckin team accountable for its failures, not one or two fuckin guys who don't take one snap on Sundays.

Unfortunately, Sutton has been DC under Mangini for 39 games. If he wasn't doing exactly what Mangini wanted, he would be gone by now. The blame for everything does not sit at the DC's feet, it is at Mangini's.

If it was the first year (or at the most two seasons) then I could agree that a change in DC was necessary. (Which it was.) But after a 4 win season, Mangini felt good enough about Sutton to ride it out. This is Mangini's defense. This is his problem.

Actually, it is the coaching staff that is supposed to hold the players accountable. It is the coach's responsibility to teach the players his system and put them in the best possible position to implement the system. He is ultimately responsible for the product on the field. If something is wrong, it is his job to correct.

Tanny has gone above and beyond to see that he has stars at every level of each unit. (QB, WR, RB, OL, DL, LB, DB, ST)

There is a reason so many players go elsewhere and shine.

I think it's both, but they chose to start the season with the players we had, with Coleman as the nickel guy and Smith at safety, and that is player evaluation... which I don't think our CS excels at when it comes to depth players.

They pretty much admitted their mistake at nickel when they signed back Poteat.

They've been revolving everybody and their grandmother at the safety spot opposite Revis.

If they were going to head into the season with those two positions at a weakness, Sutton and Mangini should have devised coverages to help those two instead of giving other teams an easy out by targeting them. I don't think Lowery, even with the potential he showed early on, should have been starting from day 1 either.
